It was a Malls that I acquired for 15 € and is now starting to take shape.

Looking good! It would be great if that whole at the bottom of the trunk got covered by some new roots. Maybe a stone? Keep up the good work!
Thanks Stefan! I think it’s a bit small for a rock. I will just let it grow and see what happens for now. Maybe it’ll thicken up a bit in the future. I could always cover it with sphagnum and wait for some roots to sprout if it doesn’t

Hi, i put mine out in full sun all the way from spring to autumn. I live in germany. I only take it in when temperatures fall below 10c consistently.
Mine grows like crazy. Maybe try putting it outside for faster growth.
I do live in Germany too and it goes outside from April to October.

Looks great! I'm a bit confused at the moss, though. Is that moss you put on at the end of the video? Doesn't the moss moss require a moist environment while the tree (as a succulent) needs the opposite? I would be worried about water issues.

I think that people estimate Portulacaria too much to behave like something like a Crassula. What I have found working with them is that if they’re in free draining soil and a shallow pot you can actually water these almost as much as a ficus. While you do need to be aware of fungus issues, they will explode with growth with that kind of treatment over the summer. The moss was actually put on just for that purpose (September was still super hot here). I will be checking during the winter time and potentially take off the sphagnum if the tree needs it

Beautiful work! On average how long do you keep branches wired before you take them off
Hard to tell an average, it really depends on the season the wire is put on. I remove it once it starts biting in. In summer that sometimes happens in 6 weeks, while it can be half to a full year if the wire is put on at another time. Just check frequently!

Still experimenting tbh. I’ve found that anything will work to a degree

hey! honest question here (i'm a total noob) why would you add why rocks instead of Bonsai Soil Mix?
Soil is a bit of a disputed thing when it comes to bonsai as the needs of a plant in a container are different to trees in nature. Aeration and hydration (oxygen and water) need to be able to happen. Therefore soil components with better drainage are used. The most favored are pumice, lava and Akadama (or a mix of them). Here I used pure pumice.
