We ( Population ) are at least 5 times more than what we should've been in terms of water availability

This was an analysis that was clearly done from a privileged veiw point -- and misses many points that need to be addressed to consider India's water problem from a climate justice angle. That was missing hugely. Just a small example that actually gave away volumes was the way the word 'encroachers' was used. Look through the lens of social justice, and it will be become clear who are the actual encroachers but label others with this word. And the notion of a well functioning public water utitlity system was explored very cursorily. 'The politicians just don't know what to do' -- this is a very grave problem. A country that claims to produce some of the best minds in the world is being governed by people who can't figure out what is wrong with the water issue in India. Very sad indeed. Doing individual acts of kindness at home by middle-class people will never solve the problem. Nor are the answers going to come from industry.

I disagree (respectfully) ... when the author suggests the idea of water being free, she refers to precisely this - that people who are victimized are shown to let the powerful have disproportionate advantages

My father who passed away in 1998 had been warning all he could, in India and abroad including the UN and the World Bank about the looming water crisis since the 70s. And he used to say it's conservation cannot be a exclusive exercise, soil, environment, top soil, vegetation, human activity and more are interlinked and one cannot be conserved selectively, all have to be conserved. He also forcasted that the wars of the 21 century would be over water resources unlike the wars of the last century over oil.
The Government had posthumously awarded him a medal for his efforts as a civilian. His name gets a mention now and then even to this day not only in india but all over the world for his writings including A Simple Method of Water Conservation.
Google throws up his name even today if his name is typed. So for us and scientists he lives on in the world wide web

Water crisis can easily be sorted if people start following the water than want water to follow them. There is enough water on the earth.

Pakistan is facing same situations as India is facing. Both country should work together to meet the requirements of the citizens of both country.
