FAUX COPPER PATINA On A CONCRETE LION STATUETTE

- Today, we aim to replicate a natural and authentic looking copper patina effect using acrylic paints on a concrete statuette of a lion which was casted last year in around the Autumn/Fall time.
We use regular acrylic paints and metallic acyrlic paints combined with dry-brushing to create the desired effect!

Thank you. No nonsense and directly to the point, unlike others who blather on like late-night TV talk-show hosts as if they're famous. You might show the brands of the products you're using, however, and music is not necessary.

Ooooh have you thought this up yourself? Such an interesting technique, and with great results too! I’ve never come across this, and I’ve been slapping patina on everything that stands in my way for yonks. Lately I’ve been pondering over how to go about giving a couple of huge angel statues a weathered bronze look, and voilá your video pops up to save the day. It’s been a year since you posted this but I hope you never ditched the narration, it’s never stupid because it explains so much more than just pictures. Especially helpful for those starting out. Subscribed even for this video alone, but judging from the thumbnails I saw I’m going to have so much fun watching your channel. Thank you!

Nice copper effect..I must try this soon..I've been using drybrushed bronze effect on a black background but this is more striking

Very nice look❣️👍 Amazing how paint can make concrete look like metal. With the proper techniques, of course. I really appreciate the dry brush tips.

Thank you Debbie! I tend not to put painted pieces outside, but if I did, I would use automotive laquer, although there are many options. You will have to maintain pieces due to weather, etc, hence why I would prefer not to put painted pieces outside.

Thank you Kim. :) This is what I use mostly: Materials | Spray Lacquer: ua-cam.com/video/fueJYTi8AMQ/v-deo.html You can put these things outside, but painted objects will wear away at some point and will need maintaining to keep them from nor wearing. Would be more suitable for inside. :)
Love Your Work, I wanted to ask how many quality concrete casts do you get out of your latex molds before you have to make new ones. Thank you again :)
If you look after them you can make 100s of casts before any wear. :)

Hi is the acrylic paint used suitable for outdoors?
It needs to be sealed to be used for outdoors
Great job. Can I use acrylic exterier "spray" paint for base. I have a Buddha I want to paint the zap green for the robe and a tan color for the skin, what problems would I have besides being challenged at anything I try in art? ;).
I don't know, but I would guess the acrylic will be ok for a base coat. If you're not sure, test the spray paint on something before applying to your main piece. :)
@@dramamask It worked and looks good. I chose turmeric color for the robe and tan/gold color for the Buddha. Wife likes it so my life is simpler. :) Thanks for your comment.

Thank you! For some reason and at present, it is hard to find the Liberon metallic paints on Amazon or Ebay.

@@Solitude11-11 They seem to be pretty hard wearing. I might try some other brands at some point, just to see. :)
@@dramamask I have done quite a bit of verdigris effect, reverse to this by copper coloured base then sponging and dry brushing the blues and greens over the top, wiping it in places…I like this better on this kind of piece, as you can target the ‘polished’ areas better, plus it’s a lot less work, but where you mentioned the two coats and flat colour, try sponging the base in two or three shades from green to pale turquoise before the dry brushing? To get away from a flat effect? Not tried, but might work.
@@Solitude11-11 Sounds good! If I am feeling more industrious, I'll merge dry brushing with washes which can turn out some great FX. :) PS: I did some vids a long while back using metallic paint with real metal in and then sprayed on some patina solution to give a real patina look. What kind was the metallic paint?
It is Liberon copper paint. I wanted to link it in the description, but it doesn't seem to be on Amazon at present.

Just white/green for patina effect. Copper metallic paint for base.
