Here's our reaction to FALLOUT s01e08!
Erika and I are going into this one completely blind. We barely play video games and only found out it was based on a game right before we watched it. So -- we'll probably be missing A LOT of references haha.
But the world has been talking about FALLOUT, and for good reason! We love the world-building and the storyline. It's fun, fast-paced -- and we can't wait to see even more.

Lucy’s mom was a feral ghoul at that point because of the bomb that Hank dropped on Shady Sands. That’s how she’s still technically alive.
I think the idea for 32 and 33 was to breed a bunch of nice people, do-gooders, that make lemonade like Bud said, to re-populate the surface and have it be like old world middle America where people didn't lock their doors and neighbors borrowed a cup of sugar if they needed it.
The goal is to create super managers, the leaders of the new world. Its a eugenics program to weed out undesirable traits.
Ghouls, among other things, can see in the dark.
And power armor has headlights, every Knight conveniently forgot (the scene still works though, so I can forgive)
When you see Barb looking up to the shadowy figure, I'm guessing that was Vault-tec's president/CEO and that Barb is his executive assistant.
One theory I've seen is its Enclave.
The ghoul in Moldavers camp was one of those Lucy released from the organ harvest mart, the one who said 'thankyou', that's why he said 'it's her'.
Such a cool detail.
NCR was huge (Over 700,000 people compared to 34,000 in Shady Sands). This was just the remnant left in this area. Some parts of it must be left somewhere, especially to the north. Todd Howard confirmed they are still around.
Ahh I see. So was NCR just a remake of modern society? Or did they have a different way of doing things like some of the factions we see in the show?
@@PhilipManzanoThe NCR had its issues but it was the closest thing we would recognize as a functioning country. It was built on the pre-war ideals of liberty, the rule of law and democratic enfranchisement. Ghouls were welcome. Citizens had rights. There were free elections and a civilian govt that oversaw the military. Like others, they were always trying to expand into the wasteland looking for resources, salvage and communities to absorb while fighting against wasteland gangs/warlords, the Brotherhood of Steel and would-be conquerors such as the slave state Caesar's Legion.

A fusion core can power a building for centuries (or a suit of power armour for a while) but that’s it. The cold-fusion capsule can power EVERYTHING.

18:50, Cold Fusion is a hypothesized form of energy production that essentially generates an infinite form of energy from a nuclear reaction from an at or near room temperature reaction. Even the most advanced forms of Nuclear Fusion which are still being laboriously worked on to this day around the world can't get a reaction anywhere near cool enough to even be safe around for a human being so, the whole concept of a cold fusion energy source is science fiction at present.
But, yes, the microfusion cell batteries used as fuel and ammunition for vehicle engines and energy weapons and Fusion Core power sources used for larger robots, power armors, and energy for certain kinds of buildings specced for fusion cores or fusion based generators are all an example in the Fallout universe of basic Nuclear Fusion. Essentially, Nuclear Fusion is a hot form of Fusion that relies on capturing energy from nuclear reactions in a small contained space(it's one of the reasons it's taking so long in our world because containing those spaces and drawing enough energy to make it a sufficient worthwhile endeavor is still out of reach with current designs and fuel sources for the reactions to make it sustainable, efficient, and profitable). But, that's the issue in itself. A hot fusion reaction like Nuclear Fusion still requires components, fuels, pieces, parts and will eventually burn itself out so, it's not a sustainable infinite form of power like the much theoretical Cold Fusion.
It's why Moldaver was and is so adamant about making her Cold Fusion work because it would've solved all of the energy issues in the pre-war times throwing the plans of Vault-tec and their evil partners, the shadow government controlling the United States and Poseidon Oil under the bus and would've made that deal they just enticed Repconn, Big MT, Robco, and West Tek pointless.
A little back story for the Fallout universe being In the 2050s resource wars began all across the planet in their timeline that results in the middle east being nuked by the invading European armies and the Europeans descended into regional and civil wars of what remained of their resources in their home countries and across Europe. The United States on the other hand having Canada, Mexico, and Latin America to still trade with and having an immense resource base to begin with did what it could to not end up in a similar situation as Europe or the Middle East. A scientist in 2053 after ten years of research finally created Nuclear Fusion and made it stable and serviceable. It solved America's energy needs for the short term. By the 2070s, most electronics, vehicles, power armors, robots, and hand held gadgets ran on some form of fusion, fission, or electric power source and in 2077 , the year the show takes place, nearly everything ran on Fusion power you see in the show in one way or the other.
Also, if you interested what went on in China and Asia, the Chinese conquered nearly every part of Asia and was sucking them dry of resources through the 2050s and conscripting every man and woman able to fight and work for them. By the 2060s, China having their entire society built on fossil fuels were desperate for energy at all costs so they started a war with the United States in 2067 by invading Alaska, and landing a heavy arsenal of tanks and heavy weapons that utilized energy ammunition on the shores of the Alaskan frontier. They wanted our oil wells up there which were some of the last producing oil fields in the world. Thankfully, we had just created the Fusion Core in 2066 and West Tek had just created the first line of T-45 Power Armors that Bud Askins brings up in the show.
And so for ten long years the United States and China were at war. China eventually lost Alaska and their forces in Anchorage were surrounded but they resisted a long siege by the US and were finally routed in January of 2077. However, the United States had long since invaded the Chinese homeland by that time and even on the morning the bombs fells and killed the world on October 10th, 2077 in the first episode of the show the still invading American forces in China were fighting a war of attrition trying to reach the Chinese capital mowing through Chinese forces with their modern winterized T-51 power armors that were armed with Mini-guns.
The ending Hank was pulling up to New Vegas
Vault-Tec wanted to drop the bombs, but in the games China beat them to it.
Moldaver brought fire back to Shady Sands.
Corporations demand obedience. Lucy's mom was not obedient enough.
So it looks like Moldaver was leading what was left of the New Califnoria Republic after Hank blew up their capitol city Shady Sands. I wonder if the Brotherhood of Steel finished them off for good in this battle.
It's sad because the NCR were the closest thing to "the good guys" in the fallout world in my opinion.
Considering her resources, its more like she's scrounging a fighting force. NCR likely pulled up states and retreated North or further East to consolidate or protect their richer households. Leaving whatever NCR presence in the Mojava and SS's area - if any weren't wiped out in the bomb or fallout - to go back to their raider roots or die to raiders.

Yes, in the end, Rose Ghoul was used to "break" Hank, and when Lucy arrived, Lucy too..
Or, Moldaver loved her. Just watch how she sits next to her and holds her hand just before passing.

Also, the Pip-Boy could only be used with a live bio signature (think back to episode 4, when norm found out the last signal was 2 years ago). They needed her alive to get into the vault.
the truth is , for 27 years fallout fans been arguing who is droping the Bomb first , and now we know , not the US or The communist , it was vault-tec all over again , from the start

I mean it's still unclear if Vault-Tec did it because if it did thaan why Barb daughter was on surface not in control vault with high Vault-Tec employees?
Here's my thought. It may have been Vault-tec's plan to drop the bomb, but before they could get all of the research completed from those "test vaults", somebody else beat them to it. OR, it was Vault-tec's plan all along to drop the bombs just to get rid of ALL of their competition.
@@Nechay. Not to mention it took House by surprise as well, according to the events of New Vegas. I suspect they intended to drop the bombs, but the real world beat them to it.
All the show confirms is vault tec was willing to drop them, not that they did. If they did it themselves, Barb would have had her daughter secured in a control vault first.
