I'm glad you got to this vid, because Tim here provides context for "I'll Take Lonely Tonight," one of Tim's more recent songs. ITLT explores Tim's temptations on the road performing while staying alone "in a 3.5 star hotel." His "torment" is portrayed in the way only Tim can explicate it, at one point comparing it to Odysseus being tied to the ship's mast as sirens sing seductively. I can see you're in for the long haul as far as reacting to him, so I'm sure you'll get to it at some point. For now, I'm happy with whatever Tim Minchin song/bit/speech you care to react to.
Just curious if you caught the "Fiddler On The Roof" reference, when he was talking about "diddle, diddle, diddling the rich man girls?" I remember seeing a live performance at our local theater as a kid, very cool. I still own the soundtrack on vinyl.
By the way, I did stay to the end and I'm sure you're pretty to someone. At least that's what I try to tell myself (cue world's smallest violin). And I agree, go 49ers (I lived in the Bay Area late 70's-early 80's)! Except when they play my current hometown team, the Detroit Lions.

There's an author called Gretta Christina who wrote a wonderful blog post about this song, and how "you fall within a bell curve" has become a love phrase for her and her wife.

Apparently Tim's wife has a dark sense of humor like him. One night they were in bed and he said I better check the kids to make sure they're still alive and she said, well if they're dead there's not much we can do about it so we may as well enjoy this time we have right now lol.
