    It's nice to see a good practical build with a realistic owner, so many builds are extremely over baked and unnecessary heavy and over complicated, I spent 14 years build touring setups and to stay under gvm is not hard but the main stream 4x4 industry in Australia has gone stupid with weight and creats more isues than it really solves.
    Less is more in so may ways.

    We had a very similar idea when doing our build. Ours is the 3.6l. But we have the same fridge, same suspension (including the rates), a few different ideas about the camp kitchen and storage but essentially also all lightweight gear. We did change the wheels and tires (Icon innerlock rebound pro with 295/70/17 Yokahama XAT) which are fantastic off-road but it's also a super heavy and wide combo which has made a massive hit to fuel economy and power. I'm actually thinking of putting a new set of 2 ply tires on the stock rims so we can swap them out depending on what we are doing. Would love to get them in pizza cutter 255/80/17 or 255/85/17.

    • @operation4wheelz
      @operation4wheelz 5 місяців тому +1

      Hi mate. The biggest hit I had on fuel economy was going from the KM2 - KM3. The KM3s are only slightly bigger, but the KM3s are a 3 ply and way heavier. The tyre ply is definitely something people don’t think too much about.

    • @FourLowAdventures
      @FourLowAdventures 5 місяців тому +2

      It's always the same problem with 4x4, can't have your cake and eat it too 😂 2 ply is so much better on road but then you'll be thankful for the 3 ply when times get tough. Btw if you are in Vic and want to do a comparison between our Jeeps let me know, we seem to have the same idea but with different choices.

    Not a Jeep Guy either but a few points too add.
    #1 that $15,000 price tag is only in modifications and not the price of the vehicle. That is something for many to consider when building a 4WD.
    #2 the fact that the vehicle has focused on Simplicity is what truly helped it stay under the factory GVWR(GVM). Thanks to that it helps the vehicle be a bit more efficient compared to a similar vehicle that could be fully loaded and more complex on the setup.
    #3 speaking of efficiency I certainly hope that powertrain hold up. Out here in the states I know the gas engines and the automatic transmissions from Jeep(more like FIAT now) don't have the best reputation.
    With all that said if it is keeps simple in that way I'm sure it will do great no matter what.
