    [Chorus]
It was just an old plywood boat
With a '75 Johnson and electric choke
A young boy, two hands on the wheel
I can't replace the way it made me feel
And I would turn her sharp
And I would make it whine
He'd say, "You can't beat the way an old wood boat rides"
Just a little lake 'cross the Alabama line
But I was king of the ocean
    When Daddy let me drive

It’s just past midnight, and it’s another sleepless night. My dad died in 1997 of cancer, at the age of 82 , and when I was 45. There hasn’t been a day since his death , that I haven’t thought of him. Tonight in my sleep deprived stupor , I thought of him again, and this song. Dad used to prop me up on his lap to steer our old 1939 Chevy Pickup truck, back to town from the farm. Allan Jackson, tonight, brought that precious memory , crashing back again into my 72 year old head. Beautiful song , Mr Jackson! Love you daddy!😢

@@richardpetzoldt5284 there are a lot of great alan jackson songs. but i am biased. i like bologna or baloney and i hate phoney baloney. i remembered when the world stopped turning on 9-11-2001 when the twin towers crashed and burned from the tallest buildings in new york to a pile of rubble not very high. everyone above were the planes crashed ended in the hands of god. i might be mistaken most of people below the planes impact zone survived with the exception of the first responders trying to rescue survivors and quenching the fire. it was not easy no working elevators and the building was not engineered to take jumbo jets full of jet fuel crashing in to the twin towers and it took 10 years to build. now look at the freedom tower took 20 years to build from the subground and that bathtub surrounding block that came crashing also. ( a hotel and citigroup's smith barney building and possibly more. i know enough to be dangerous and i do not know it all. like alan i do not know the difference between turkey where there are radar stations supporting nato peace keeping.
we were friends with iran while the shaw of iran was in charge. it broke down when the aitolla Komeni took charge. iraq was another mess with Saddam hussien and the fires of the oil fields and the potential of weapons of mass confusion and destruction. way to much misinformation.
barak obama's team of military got bin laden. smoking joe biden got the talle-me-banana number 2 man shot down dead with a drone.
hellava mess in the middle east.

Just as you and I are doing now, steering that vessel in the best way we know how for those youngsters in our lives. Be easy, do your best and don’t ever give up!

Listen, y’all…. First of all, when the f*** is UA-cam going to follow suit and create a “heart/love” reaction to comments??? And videos in general I guess. 🙄🥹
      BUT….
I’m not from the south; in fact I’m born and raised smack-dab in the Midwest: La Crosse, WI. The specific locations mentioned in this song, I’ve never been to but I replace them with the ones that the sentiment of this song sings about. Along the Mississippi! Ever heard of The World’s Largest 6 Pack of Beer? That’s my town. My ancestors started it. (Look up Zeisler 1800’s if you want to know more!) but the sentiment of this song is beautiful, all around; through and through; and the way I see it, regardless of the relationship you have with your Daddio, if this song reminds you of him, that’s some true love right there. Although it stings, I rejoice in my ability to cherish the memories when I choose to acknowledge their pain & beauty.
There’s just something about being 30 and remembering the “good old days” when life was different and you were 10 but your dad would let you drive the Johnson or the Ford and you were just wild and free.
I thank you and apologize to anyone who has read this far; sometimes I have a couple too many drinks, put my headphones in, and dive balls first down memory lane and leave comments like this on videos like these bc the chances of anyone seeing them are SO SLIM that i don’t worry about a charged conversation. Also, If you ARE reading this, and you’re feeling some type of way, I see you & I feel you. 🙏♥️
Alright that will be all. Thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart if you actually read that. And if you are and you wanna talk, I’m here.
I hope you know it’s nothing but true, sincere love my friends 🙏♥️♥️ ♥️

This song makes me think of things I haven''t thought of in ages, but they're memories that will never be forgotten. I remeber as a kid,, my dad took me to the empty racetrack parking lot in grampas old car after he passed away. I couldn't have been more than 9 or 10 years old, and in that big empty parking lot, dad let me drive grampas old Impala. That was a lot of car for a little kid., and i never knew why dad did it, but imagine he had a similar memory with him and grampa. I got 4 kids of my own now,, and there was no way i was letting them.learn to drive from my wife.. I've taught all of them to ride a bike and put three of four on the road now.. One of the greatest treasures of my life as a dad to make those memories with my kids. Alan Jackson is the greatest IMO. Simple, God fearing, faithful family man, and an absolute treasure for using music to help us polish the memories of our lives into priceless gems. God bless Alan Jackson.
