no rye though. Is rye really such a misfits in the whisky family? A whisky that is that odd member of the family you only see on a few specific occasions?
What I love about seeing master distillers pick (mostly) easily obtained stuff is that it's a healthy unavoidable reminder that, SOMETIMES, not always but sometimes, popular stuff is popular for a reason.
You didn't even need to hide Emma's whiskey. We all knew
If she unsocked fireball I’d have died.
@@WhiskeyTribe I'd question everything in my life.
@@WhiskeyTribe seeing "unsocked fireball" as a sentence is just..great.
@@WhiskeyTribe unsocked sounds like newspeak, I like it
Straight up LOL'ed at "MOM AND DAD, YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARDS!" Thank you.
I used to live a short walk from Glenfarclas distillery and would often take visiting friends on tours of the place and walk home through the woods. When I drink their 12, I always get a hint of tobacco and oak, which is ironic because the Glenfarclas tasting room is panelled in oak they recovered from the smoking-room of a pre-war ocean liner. I like the 12 but I think the 21 is excellent. That's more Seville oranges and a walk through the woods.
Talking of Speyside, one to watch out for is Ballindalloch which will come online in a couple of years. It is a single estate distillery 2 miles from Glenfarclas and less than a mile from Cragganmore (another excellent distillery). I hear lots of very good things about the place and the quality of the spirit is excellent. Anyway, I digress. I'm new to the channel and really enjoying it. Sláinte!
@14:00 Berries and Cream! Berries and Cream! Rex is a little lad who loves Berries and Cream!
"Mom & Dad, you magnificent bastards!" :)
Bottom line, like wine, the bestt whiskey is the one you like.
I love the cheers to Emma's parents
I've watched many of your videos. I love how respectful you are to the people who distill such great whiskeys and how the whole experience feels like a learning event. I learn more about whiskey every time I watch your channel.
"warm whisky hug" - about Laphroaig - fantastic.
Laphroaig to me is like licking a bbq pit
My 'short form' description is that it's like getting punched in the face by Scotland...all of it.
What a pleasant surprise! I go back to the original every once in a while, and that's what I thought I clicked, only to find out there is now an episode 2!! 🤩
I love these episodes where we get to hear from the distillers themselves. Good stuff, guys. Keep it comin'.
Point me to a shelf in a store anywhere that has Stagg Jr. That is my favorite, it is my unicorn, and it is practically unobtainable these days.
Saw the tube sock and clicked before I even read what the episode was about
You are wise and your choices are correct.
I got a sock that stands up like that on its own
LOVE TALNUA! I have the Olde Saints Keep from 2020 and 2021. Keeps getting better every year!
Talnua! So glad more and more people are seeing the wonderful whiskey they are producing. I'm going to enjoy how easy it is to get their special releases because it won't stay that way.
Agreed on the Talnua. One of my faves from the Bastard’s Ball a few weeks back.
one of my first whiskey was if i recall it correctly a laphroaig 12. but just the peat and smoke remind me of ireland when i visit my brother there and friends. still love it to this day.
I love every time you do this. Hope a part 3 comes eventually
My favorite from this and a bottle that is ever present on my shelf is the Stranahan's, though I prefer the cask strength. I get such an amazing mocha flavor on the palate. I am glad to see that this bottle made on here. Going to have to go out and find some Talnua next.
I love you guys. seriously though I stopped drinking whiskey for awhile I still bought it and added to my collection so I've a lot to choose from and drink but no one I know drinks just whiskey always mix it with this or that so they don't taste the whiskey (drink what ya like but don't mix a whiskey that's hundo) so I tend to just drink at 3 am while watching your videos so I drink with ya at least. I appreciate your show and entertainment I hope pray and wish for the success of all your endeavors yall deserve it.
Recently purchased Laphroaig 10 cask strength. Definitely my favorite of all Laphroaigs 😉
I love your channel as someone who works around a lot of alcohol your channel has helped me get a lot of my palette built I’m personally a fan of single malt scotch’s 😁
Emma!! 😭 Glad she's still close by
10:35 I am not too sensitive for the sulphur, and I therefore I like Glenfarclas 12, 15 and so on. Another distillery that has affordable age-statement sherry bombs is Glengoyne.
I signed up for Crowd Cow. This sounds like something I could really get behind.
11:30 Rather than distilling hemp, I've thought before about using some of the dry, waste material (stalks and stems) from production to burn to dry and smoke the grains for a whiskey instead of peat or wood. Worked on a hemp farm before and they would just burn all the waste material at the end in a big burn pile and the smell would be great.
I moved from Texas to Colorado this year. It really is wild how good the Colorado single malt scene is. Only thing that would make it better is if Talnua could get some distribution down where I'm at. Thankfully it's only an hour drive to the distillery.
Wasn’t familiar with Taluna, now I’m intrigued
I'm hoping they can get wide distribution. I absolutely adored their whiskey.
Check out The Burns Pub & Restaurant. Amazing Whiskey bar.
Talnua is absolutely amazing!!
Hopefully you’ve tried Deerhammer’s single malt. It’s one of my all time favorites
Jonathan picking Stagg Jr makes so much sense to me. That was the first, as Daniel called it "Wall of Flavor", I really nerded out on. Now Harbinger is a mainstay in my cabinet.
Something that I feel would be a cool experiment would be a single pot still style corn or rye whiskey. See what the process does to different grains
I was on a United flight and ordered my first glenfarclas dram. It surprised me how much I liked it. I assumed because I could get it on the flight it would suck. I didn’t at all. I am a fan now.
As soon as Emma popped up, we alllllll knew what hers was going to be.
Why even bother with the sock at that point jajajajja
I love the can of Spam on the shelf 😂😂😂
My first Scotch was Laphroaig 10 a few years ago. Before that the only whiskey I had was Wild Turkey 101 and Woodford Double Oak. I absolutely loved the aroma and the taste of the Laphroaig. It was so different from anything I had ever had before. I still prefer 10 to any other Laphroaig, and I think it is the best value in a whiskey that I have ever had (I will say that Uigeadail and the Bruchladdich whiskeys that I've had have been better tasting to me but not a better value).
i dont know what my first one was, as it was givin to me in a shot glass, but the last one i has was glenfidich 12 yr that i really liked.
Glenfarclas is my Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde whisky. I love the Christmas cake flavors but it could be very winey and the alcohol could become the primary note even at 40%. By the comments I heard, I think you were lucky to have a good bottle and when that happened, it’s wonderful.
The Stranahan offers you the opportunity to experiment with oxydation. I remember a bottle I had, I think it was a virgin oak cask, that I drank over a year. At the time passed, the most amazing banana flavor grew. That whisky is really well done and aged with beauty.
As for the Laphroiag 10 yo CS, just pour me a dram… Yes… Just a wee bit more… There you are. 😁
With all the Colorado i was hoping for Breckinridge Port cask
Not surprised to see Stranahans pop up. Their Solera cask is my daily pour.
I've had all of these whisk(e)ies, and I have to say... Emma's pick is the correct one. I do appreciate Glenfarclas, but I'd probably go for the 15 or the 17 over the 12 far and away. The 12 is totally doable, but the 17 is going to make you say "Holy shit, this distillery is waaaay underrated." Stagg Jr. is definitely the best bourbon on this list...
Colorado whiskey for the win! Stranahan's is my favorite too
The Balcones Bro wore an Indian shirt! Total fire! Love that band!
Emma's segment was very wholesome... thanks mom and dad
Looks like United has Glenfarclas, if you haven't remembered since.
Love the channel and that crowded cow is cheaper than my butcher box subscription so thanks for saving me money
Ads are once again undefeated
you should do this much more often! that was great!
Emma, I wish I could find Lapgroaig 10 CS, here in Central Texas. Great pick!
Who do you think is buying it all :)
Love Laphroig and always reminds me of an old band aid smell from when a kid. LOL
I don't even drink whiskey but I always find myself back watching more.
Laphroaig just ticks all the boxes its soo briny and it sweetens as the bottle runs out my fav scotch.
SoNo brewery in CT uses hemp seed although it’s not technically whiskey bc of the mash bill
Good luck, Emma. Godspeed.
❤ Emma's t shirt ad for New York state's Ithaca distillery all the way down in TX
Crying laughing right now because I said mom and dad are fighting right before Rex said mom and dad are angry. 😂
Yeah, you can ferment cannabis leaves. There's an guy in India who ferments Bud.... I think the fermentation process decarboxylates the cannabis (hemp) and makes it orally active.
My feelings about Laphroaig are that its nose is like the mink-oil boot waterproofing...very creosote-like, per Lapsang Souchong tea. So, I'm obviously not a typical Islay Scotch drinker. The Highland Park whiskies, particularly the Einar, are more to my tastes when it comes to peat smoke. Lighter and later. But, I still keep a bottle of Laphroig in the cabinet, along with a sampling of Talisker Storm, for those who prefer the peatier tipples.
M.B. Roland distillery and Kentucky Hemp Works teamed up on a hemp whiskey that's now aged and bottled.
The airline Daniel was talking about is United
Yes you can distill hemp. MB Roland released a limited run of a Hemp Whiskey and it was pretty damn good.
You need to make a video file or GIF of the Mom & Dad Magnificent Bastards for your Patrons.
5:00 "MARS KAPON" HAHAHAHHA
Emma’s love of Laphroaig got me into peated scotch. Still on the very beginning of my whisky adventure, but I am now a huuuuuuuge (boondocks saints reference) fan of the peat.
Try out Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila, Lagavulin if you can. I think that all are much better than Laphroaig
Anyone else find it ironic that Daniel, the man who has notoriously rebuked and refused all questions about what his top whisky is, is now going around demanding distillers tell them what theirs are.
his top whisky is Longmorn 16. didn't hear it from me though.
He mentioned it on the whiskey vault/ bank safe entrance episode
Jared's beard game is just 🔥
There actually are a few vodkas that use hemp seed in the mash.
Rex is either losing weight, or killing it in the red shirt. Either way, props.
Batch 17 stagg jr is just phenomenal, I managed to get two bottles and it's so hard not to pour every time I pour me some bourbon
Hello gentlemen I have an Irish whiskey for you to try ,if you haven’t. It’s called Paddy and I like it because I think newbies would like it best. Thanks
Patrick
Laphroaig, you absolute savage haha. I love it!
Best of the Whiskey Tribe best.
Love this concept.
Hey tribe, what’s the name of those little sample bottles (w/ the screw cap, white/black color) and can I get them on the shelf somewhere? Thanks
Good Morning Gentlemen.
I never knew I needed a Tuck face featured in an ad, until now.
Yes it is possible to distill hemp. A small distillery Called Olde Towne Distillery in Kentucky had hemp white dog. It was gross. It became a novelty bottle on my bar that I had people try for a laugh.
I would like to say you can technically distill hemp. We do it in CBD oil manufacturing
I really liked this vid........it was ....oh heck ...fun
Daniel is learning the ways of the mooch
Needs a part 3!
Stranahans is my first and favorite whiskey
I actually hate mushrooms too, yet one of the first notes I ever picked up in a Laphroaig is a hint of mushrooms.
love these types of videos!!
How have I not heard of Talnua before? They are like 20 minutes from my house. I need to get out more.
They make great cocktails too. Grab a togo
I love Talnua.
Is the fourth glass an effect for the shot? Or is your camera man enjoying a pour with you?
Great episode
Any advice for people with allergies? Feeling like I’m missing out on much of the flavors.
I checked out Total Wine in my area (Seattle) and no Talnua! :(
Will you polish the screws in the wall please?
Just got a bottle of Stagg Jr last week. Walked into a hole in the wall store I frequent and the owner said he'd just gotten a single bottle allocation. Asked if I wanted it. Um, yeah.
I am lazy liker but y'all bastarding Emma's Mom and Dad made me feel the warm fuzzies so I had to click the thumbs up!
I love Stranahan's because it tastes like nothing I've ever had before. Is there any other whiskeys that taste like it?
It is correct that Stagg Jr is the best. Wish I could find it again.
Tried the George T. Stagg and absolutely loved it. Don't know how the jr is different but I have to try it
@@OblivionM7Mstagg jr, as its name implies, is supposed to be the little brother to Big Daddy Stagg. Its similar profile, but younger and not supposed to be as good. However, most side by sides put a lot of the better stagg jr batches right up there with the Big Stagg releases
@@spforevr11 hmm. I see. Still it would be better to try it to see for my self. Thanks for the explanation though. Really appreciate it
Talnua is not a Malt! It’s a Single Pot Still style whiskey that is made in Colorado in accordance with the Irish Technical File.
Crowd cow crowded barrel so many crowds
ohhhhh thats an older bottle of Stranahans. The new one has a white lable at the bottom and use older aged whiskeys.
It's been 3 years since i could find stagg jr.
I saw a bottle this year in Florida, in a small store down the street from a major theme park. They wanted almost $300 for it. I'm never going back to that store. 🤑
@@BradWilson1969 that's traumatizing
Just what I needed
Emma with the Myer Farm distillery shirt FTW
Love love love stranahans!
