Could we get a video of Brianna, Daniel, and Rex's favorite bottle from each alcohol category? It was really cool to hear the little clips about mentioning bottles of Gin or Mezcal that you really liked. Would love to see a video of you all trying each other's favorites!
I think what most people don’t realize is that the cheaper, watered down mezcals are super smoky and harsh. Those bottles are meant for cocktails. There are so many different types of agave that have wildly different flavors and have less of a smoke presence. They can be earthy, floral, and fruity as well. Tequila can only use Blue Weber Agave, while Mezcal can use a wide variety of agave, which each have their own unique flavor. It’s another expensive rabbit hole to dive down when you want something new to try :)
Great vid. The end... OMG! I'm glad I wasn't drinking my beverage lest I would have sprayed it all over the monitor. Who knew ZZ Top had educational value???
16:27 Mezcal margaritas have been my go-to at Mexican restaurants for years now! The smokiness makes it so much better. Also: Espresso martinis with tequila instead of vodka. It's not a combo I ever would have thought would work, but I tried it at a fancy Mexican restaurant in LA and loved it. Tequila adds a touch of funk that compliments the espresso shockingly well.
When you were talking about a margarita made with mezcal it reminded me of one of my favorite mezcal drinks, a mezcal old fashioned. 1 pt mezcal 1 pt blanco tequila Few dashes orange bitters Brown sugar simple to taste Stir and serve just like a regular old fashioned

When someone ask for a palatable rum, I usually refer them to Bumbu for just an easy drinking, sweet rum. The six year cherry cask XO is more for a nice sipping rum experience, and is a different rum sourced from Panama, rather than Barbados like the unaged Bumbu.
As a western Pennsyltuckian, I see lots of guys buying the Bradshaw Bourbon because of sportsball. I was pleasantly surprised that it's a good proof and solid flavors coming in at a good price.
Y'all, I rarely comment on stuff I watch - but I'm *SO* excited that you felt something good about mezcal. A little clay cup, with some orange slices and salt+tajin on the side, is like medicine for the soul. Some worthwhile varieties to look for: Koch El - Arroqueño OR Barril (both beautiful and clean daily drinkers. Reliable, fresh.) Yuu Baal - Pechuga (maybe my ideal pairing with food. The most vegetal of my favorites) Derrumbes - San Luis Potosí (Salmiana) (I don't see a lot of Salmianas around. Rich and warm) Bozal - Guias de Calabaza (Espadin) (it tastes *nothing* like any other Espadin. Refreshing, cool, mutant pick) Making friends with the bartenders at my local mezcal bar was a great fortune to me. I had been exploring, but these cats had access to a lot more than I was able to try before last year. I look forward to a Whiskey Tribe - Mezcal Adventures episode in the future :D

I had a friend bring homemade bacanora (another subset of mescal) from Mexico. Think of moonshine but tequila. It was like 140+ proof but goes down like water. That stuff was so dangerous.

Itld be even better if you were able to pick out a winner and develop a business relationship with them too.
The Aviation makes good martinis and I use it for my long island iced tea. You're not wrong, it doesn't make a good gin and tonic. I prefer Bombay Blue, or Biszbee Blue gin for that.

There is another whiskey out there that is called tres hombres and has a nearly identical label as the balconies tres hombres but it's sourced from MGP and has no balconies labels on it.
My rocknroll buddies and I used to set up our electric instruments in the basement, start playing and passing a bottle of smoky mezcal "con gusano," then turn out the lights. Psychedelia, baby! You could see the music bouncing off the walls.

Hey guys, love how much fun you bring to tasting and drinking with friends. Had a small question though. I like having whiskey/bourbon w/ ginger beer or a nice old fashioned with the luxardo cherrys. I usually stick with Bulleit (honestly from costco) and I wondered if you had a reasonably priced alternative? Was thinking of trying the Kirkland brand single barrel bourbon whiskey, but would love some advice since i dont go to many tastings. Thanks for all the fun and laughs you all bring!!
Not the one you're asking, but bourbon is a favorite of mine and Bulleit is my go-to for old fashioned. I'm sure there's better, but I've never met better in that price range. Whiskey Tribe has way more knowledge than me...here's hoping they see this and answer. All that said, Kirkland can really surprise ya...in the best way. Costco's buyers know their sh*t and some of the KIrkland stuff is really good.
Thanks @Cre8sumthing. My other go to is Jameson for adding ginger, and I've had several of the usual (less expensive) suspects; Makers, Jim b, Jack, and Johnny. I 100% agree with you with Bulleit, I think I just want to change it up a little. Thanks again for the response.
@@cassgil8448 It's hard to beat Bulleit at the price, but I'd say try Wild Turkey 101. A little higher proof and higher rye content give it a nice little kick. I don't feel like Makers being a wheated bourbon works as well in many cocktails. An Old Fashioned was traditionally made with rye, so you could go with a rye like Rittenhouse Rye Bottled-in-Bond as well.
Hey @Chad Zubke, I appreciate your input, I'm also not a big fan of Makers. But I have seen the 101 on several of their lists. I think I'm going make a small list and drive to a whiskey bar to do tasting, I'd just like having something prepared. Thanks again

It used to be as Daniel explains, but nowadays if you want to legally sell or export something you call mezcal, it must be made in regions, with ingredients and methods that cannot be used to make tequila.
Bruh I had no idea Bumbu was from Lil Wayne. My brother knew I liked rum and recommended it, so I picked a bottle up and loved it instantly. I have a sweet tooth, and if I mix it with Coke, peak perfection, it tastes exactly like vanilla coke with a bite.
I've had Aviation before, and I think that what you are saying about it is right on the nose. Like, it is nice and smooth/mild, but for myself... when I'm drinking gin, what I really want are some of those really nice herbal notes. When I tried making a simple gimlet with it (just using the Rose's Lime juice), it was... horrific. Not saying that it can't work well with drinks, or trying to renounce Ryan (I'd be his Colossus any day), just that it isn't my taste in a gin.
From what I have heard from tequila aficionados that a lot of celebrity brands are not traditional, high quality, tequila. From what I have heard from tequila aficionados that a lot of celebrity brands are not traditional, high quality, tequila. Traditional tequila does have some terroir but the big thing is Blanco's should be vegetal and peppery, that said I don't know everything about tequila but brands that get a lot of love from tequila purists is Fortaleza and G4.
I don't know if y'all take requests, but this should be interesting. Distill cuitlacoche (Mexican corn smut).
Props for the 16-wall break with Deadpool.
