To answer your question, yes alcohol does that stuff when you like either the taste or the feeling of it. That line of “I see that blonde hair over there lookin’ at you, you wanna say what’s up but can’t work up the courage to. But if you stick with me buddy, you can bet your life. She’ll be walking out with you by the end of the night” is spot on how it was going to the bar Friday nights when I drank excessively. The way it’s structured too is so underrated. Hardy decided to structure this song in this VERY SPECIFIC way because it’s supposed to give that alcohol-like experience. The first verse and chorus is basically just Hardy in a calm, melodic voice with just one guitar pattern the entire time, which is when you first walk into a bar or a party, getting settled in and eyeing what kind of drink you’re gonna have. Then the drums kick in, and that’s the part where you start drinking and the tipsy feeling starts to hit, then the hardcore rock part and screams with the lines “its been a hell of a ride, kid, don’t you agree? Yeah, rock bottom ain’t as bad when you’re rockin’ with me” is that drunk feeling when it all hits you at its peak, where nothing else really matters, no problems, no real life struggles or drama, it’s just the good feeling of the alcohol. Then in the ending, he just says “Jack” with all the instruments cut out, that’s the after party, waking up the next day realizing that the moment was just that, and it just emphasizes the idea of Jack Daniel’s doing all that damage. From a lyrical and sound standpoint, Hardy is among the very best in country. He’s easily my favorite artist at the moment, and his songwriting is second to none.
I am a recovering alcoholic sober for 10 years and yes, absolutely, alcohol talked to me. It still does in fact. I have to wake up every morning and make a conscious decision to not drink. I ask God to keep me sober every morning and thank him every evening for doing so. This song hits different to me because I have had those conversations with myself
Recovering alcoholic here, quit cold turkey one day and dealt with the DT's myself. Almost died a month later. Yeah, it talks to you. In a serpent on your shoulder kind of way. The phrase I always listen to in my head is "One is too many, and 10 is never enough". As for the song, it's pure fire, and rocks out! I'm at a point where songs like this mean just a bit more to me, because I've had that struggle, it almost killed me, and now I'm still here to live and experience my life. So if I rock out to this, it's a win!
Thank you for answering my question. As far as mocking bird and the crow and a rock goes unfortunately for videos sake I've already listened to those song a little while back. I flipped out and had to show my brother and friends when I heard both. I've noticed Hardy is ridiculously skilled at using metaphors and writing from multiple point of views.
I’m not an alcoholic but partake once in a while. My go to drink was always Jack and Coke. This song is brilliant because I used it as a way to unwind and let loose in social settings with friends. It reminds me of a night drinking. Started out calm and as the night and drinks progress, things could become more chaotic. Loved the reaction man!
I don't know about Superman but it definitely lowers inhibitions and good judgement, and helps you shut out all the bad things you might be trying to avoid. Great song. But stay sober.
I’m a Christian as well , and everything hardy has said is true ( from my experience at least ) . I’m not perfect but I’m honest… also all I listen to is gospel, country and rock. Love to see a creed reaction if you could
As im sitting here with a beer in hand watching your videos, yes it does make you feel that way and its a curse as we both know but its a blessing you have to even ask lol
Unfortunately, I can't react to that song. Before I decided to start reacting to songs on my channel I watched someone else react to it. It's a great song. The good news is I haven't heard anything else really by Hardy so I have a lot of songs from him coming on my channel. I recorded a wait in the truck reaction last night so it's gonna be up either tomorrow or Friday.
I've never been an alcoholic but there was a time when I was self medicating when I was going through a rough spot. Thank God nothing took hold but I gotta be honest, it did help numb some feelings until I decided to man up and crawl out of the whole.
Dang. Thank you for sharing & answering my question. Giving the confidence of superman along with the numbing capabilities I can definitely see how people get hooked. All the men in my family have been alcoholics and not the fun kind. That along with my faith is why I've been able to stay away from it for so long.
@Trevor Beecher it's a very slippery slope. I swear it was a Wednesday and I was pulling into the liquor store and it hit me that I was already out of booze and was buying more midweek. I turned around in the dollar store parking lot went home. I'll have an occasional drink here and there now but, I'm very conscious of my intake.
@trentbobo4171 You have really good will power to be able to just turn around like that. Honestly that's awesome. I can't even have the will power to back out of getting a big mac 🤣
I didn't have an alcohol issue but I could see easily how you could. Still though my drugs of choice always talked to me always saying just abit and it'll calm you down. You know that feeling you got as a kid the night before Christmas morning presents where you're so excited you can't almost think of anything else until then.....same with myself and drugs. Its awful feeling like that almost consistently at a certain point if addiction.
Unfortunately for reactions sake, I have already heard the mocking bird and the crow. It's an awesome song! To me that song alone is what made Hardy become one of my favorites. I haven't heard Truck Bed, Boots, or any of his older stuff really. Maybe I will check some of those out. Thank you so much for the suggestion!
When alcohol becomes a part of your life and you are dependent on it, nothing else matters. You can't function without it. i know that pain and that dependency and disappointing friends and family because alcohol means more to you. If you have never been there you just can't understand what it does to you, or how it impacts how you think.
I wasnt an alcoholic, but in my day i could put back 20 drinks in any given night. I had a super high tolerance. Anyway, like i said, not an alcoholic, but, i will say it killed the nerves man. I really was just so self conscious of my dancing and how bad i was, if we were out at a club or bar, i would need to be 8-10 deep before i'd be loose enough to hit the floor. Same with the golf course. I'm always in my own head, i literally play better when i have 3-6 beers in me and a slight buzz going. more than that and you start to lose coordination, but with like 3-6 in me i get out of my head and shoot a little better. That being said, that was my 20s. I'm 33 now and i probably have 2 beers a month. if that. So this isnt from the POV of an alcoholic. The difference is i never had a dependency. Addiction will require some sort of dependency and therefore a withdrawal. For those people, not sure what the day to day thoughts are.
Alcohol makes you feel amazing. And I am an alcoholic. It just loosens me up to go into public or just be around people in general. It gets to a point though where you start to need that drink to go do this and that. And unlike "drugs" you can find alcohol easily. Gas stations, grocery stores or just the local bar/liquor stores sell alcohol.
Thank you so much for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I've already heard mockingbird and the crow and a rock. Are there any other songs you think I should check out?

He doesnt have a designated bass player but at his live shows, Hardy himself plays one in 2 of his new songs but thats it
same with his drummer
In short the answer to your question is yes, alcohol is my oldest friend.
The other two you need to react to is The Mockingbird & The Crow and A Rock. A Rock will make you almost tear up!
as a regular drinker I can say that I use it as a social lubricant and an anxiety reliever, it aint perfect though, and thats a fact jack

Thus being why so many people drink and become alcoholics…..
In the short term alcohol made everything seem better...in the long term it wrecks your life. My advice, don't start.
