"You're my assassin but you can't see the crime..."
For this episode, let's look back at what would prove to be #GaryNuman's final ever top 10 single, from 1982's I, Assassin.
A song about an ex-girlfriend, and a track that has everything (funk, synthpop and jazz), it's one of Gary Numan's most intriguing singles.

I still adore the album. And particularly the piano sections of the slow version of this We take Mystery track.
I missed Gary that year, aware he’d left the UK for Tax issues. And he’d retired, I’d seen him say farewell as a teen 1981 Wembley. I was mesmerised by the event and truly saddened. And yet he was then suddenly touring the US with this album. The Image track felt very Bowie-esque. And a personal favourite is Dream of Siam.

Just catching up with your channel, I think the last time Gary must have played this live was on a guest slot with Nine Inch Nails (featuring Pino Palladino on bass, no less, as Pino was working with NIN at the time). 🙂ua-cam.com/video/qRLIZZd7zP8/v-deo.html

The period represented by this track must surely count as a low point in Numan' career. Let' s say it began with the ' Dance' album and ended wjth ' The Fury' after which he began to recover somewhat.
To be sure, there were some fine individual tracks from this period, but overall the music was flashy and incohate. Numan was bejng influenced by the people he had influenced - the New Romantic Blitz club brigade - and his ouput telied too.much on guest muscians and was more ' pop' than ' rock' . The tail was wagging ghe dog.
From " The Fury' onwards , and particularly from' Steange Charm' onwards, Numan reclaimed some of the confrontstional bite and dark atmosphere that makes his work compellinig
