    Fact: It is easier (and cheaper) to build a solar-powered charging station for an electric car than it is to build a gas station, and continuously get it resupplied.

    • @tesladude2822
      @tesladude2822 3 роки тому +1

      yeah, but calculate how big that roof should be to produce120KW for even one supercharger. Solar roof can add just a small fraction of energy need. So to build chargers is not that easy as someone could think.

    • @InnovativeSustainableSolutions
      @InnovativeSustainableSolutions 3 роки тому +4

      @@tesladude2822 A 120kw supercharger is not what I had in mind. I would go with a 10kwh battery (DIY not brand name), and 5kw of solar. That modest residential system would run you about $4k-$6kUSD. 10kwh gets you 30-40 miles/day, 210-280miles/week. Charge the vehicle at night, solar charges the battery bank by day. As an added bonus you get an emergency powerwall. Thats not a terrible deal.

    • @tesladude2822
      @tesladude2822 3 роки тому

      @@InnovativeSustainableSolutions So, when you said "It is easier (and cheaper) to build a solar-powered charging station for an electric car than it is to build a gas station" it was something completely different. Gas station works day and night for multiple vernicles. In your case solar-powered panels will charge the battery day time, so you can drive 30-40 miles/day. Expensive if you ask me, also if you will take into account that effectiveness of double conversion (solar to battery, battery to charger) it will require almost double energy. On a cloudy day you will get even less. Also you will need a bigger size battery, if you will full charge/discharge on a daily base that battery will not last long.

    • @InnovativeSustainableSolutions
      @InnovativeSustainableSolutions 3 роки тому +4

      @@tesladude2822 The savings of driving an electric car over an ICE one are sufficient to pay for the charging station I describe 10 times over. Additionally the amount of power generated would be sufficient to meet the needs of 95% of people (both in the States and Kenya it is rare to drive over 40 miles every day, 7 days/week). It fits most people's needs, and it not expensive relative to the cost of operating an ICE vehicle instead. You mention the inefficiencies of conversion. That's true. Most MPPT charge controllers are only about 95% efficient. Additionally most Inverters necessary to convert the DC battery power back to AC are only 95% efficient. So you will lose a whopping 10% of your collected solar energy in the process of storing it, and inverting it to operate an EVSE. That's why I went with a 5kw array. This will produce 25kwh on a sunny day, and 10kwh even on a very poor day for solar (Kenya doesn't get many cloudy days). Increasing the battery size to reduce depth of discharge is ALWAYS a good idea if you can afford it, but a properly cooled used stationary storage battery is still good for 1-2k cycles, or 3-6 years, even at a high DOD.

    • @tesladude2822
      @tesladude2822 3 роки тому

      @@InnovativeSustainableSolutions talking about conversion efficiency you did not count that your 10KWH battery itself is also takes more energy than gives, not 100% effective. I could charge my car using 120V outlet, but I charge using 240V because it is much more effective, despite I barely drive my car. And I use grid, so I have incentives also. For somebody who has no electric grid, probably it is the only way to charge.

      Mark My words - In 2 years (possibly less) the $25,000 (or less) Tesla (to be called the Model 2 or something like this) will be produced in China and possibly Europe (Germany) and maybe even in the USA. The demand will be TEN MILLION vehicles per year worldwide the first year - even with only 500,000 vehicles probably available the first year! By year three (say in 2025) DEMAND WILL BE OVER 20 MILLION VEHICLES per year but again Tesla will probably only be able to produce 3 million vehicles at most of this Model 2.

A Nissan Leaf or other models would be more value for money is of now. A few tips that will help improve the quality of your videos, get a camera mount for the in-car interviews or a 4K go-pro which will stabilize footage. well done, it's a great that people who can afford it still care about pollution
    i think africa should discuss with chinese partners for cheaper electric vehicle, price affordable especially for public transport
    like in south america, there is a huge offer of price affordable cars, public transport buses, even cargo trucks used by coca cola or other bigger companies are EV
    it's a great chance for african countries in their development to start from electric cars and public roads infrastructure
