It’s not uncommon. The motor goes into overtime if the door on fridge part or freezer part isn’t closed properly. Mine burnt out like that, but didn’t go on actual fire, but it could have. The interior parts, such as the compressor, can definitely overheat and spark. When the electrical components inside catch fire, the surrounding plastic serves as a fuel source for a blaze. I live quite near Grenfell. I walked past after a week, and the top floors still glowed red inside, still smouldering like hot coals.
