Also I cannot stop thinking about how inspiring it must be to write next to a faux spaceship portal, like, wow. Combines inspiration from being on the way to somewhere and inspiration from being in SPACE

  • @lexer_

Looking at unique challenges like having a disability as a drive to develop a special skillset was incredibly insightful. I was aware of this concept for individual cases of course but I never really generalized this concept so broadly in this concise way. I was never consciously aware of how universally this applies to every single human being.

Hank, i had to comment here because i couldn't figure out how to on your shorts. U can get air in your gas, i ran into this twice at my local self pay station. First time i wasn't sure what was happening but i knew the pump was changing pressure as i was getting gas. i finally shut it off because i had put more in the truck then the capacity of the tank.. The gauge read half a tank on the truck. i called them, they inspected it and the transport had left a valve shut that should have been open. they adjusted the charge and i had also found out a fellow employee ran into the same problem. I couple weeks later it happened and again, this time i quickly let go of the nozzle and witnessed the gallons on the pump continue to roll up on the amount, indicating that the was air in the line and it was still trying to pressure up. called them again and they found that the transport had made the same mistake. It can happen

25:50 The first thing that popped into my head was Photocopy because you're copying a photo, seems somewhat self explanatory as a word and kind of instructional, copy the photo, photocopy. It shocks me how similar my methods are to you two. I have an app on my phone called "colornote" that lets me track writing an average of 250 words per day. I create a checklist with each date and a widget on my phone's home screen counts up, up, up, up, as I get further behind. It feels great to write 2000 words over a weekend and then cross out 8 days, the count of being behind going from a scary 17 to a reasonable 9. I ALSO have to keep up with writing or my shower time where all of my ideas happen, doesn't happen. Same brain.

Hey Hank, here is a public service announcement. The holidays are coming up. People drink more, alchohol and coffee. Strong alcohol + Strong Coffee=Light Headedness. Both of these can make the blood in your brain thinner. I had one vodka martini and one Nitro Cold Brew can(which I don't think has NO2 or nitrous oxide in it, which would only make things worse) and that did it. I went to one of those hip places that sell coffee and alcohol (including cocktails). A Screwdriver or Negroni (one of my favorites) would have made things worse because of the higher alcohol content. Anyway, I know you are the science one, so pass this along.

I know they will be drowned out by the multitude of other options being self-published, if I don't market them. I have no idea how to manage marketing myself and my book, and managing my seizures at the same time. Is there any way to publish your first book without sinking into obscurity immediately?

These books sound awesome and I love how Kowal described her approach to writing, and it's so interesting to hear how different writers conceive of their goals and challenges in different ways. Makes it seem like writing fiction professionally isn't just A Job, it's subtly a different job in different hands.
But man, this button board stuff... If the most interesting thing that happened is something that could've been total gibberish and was never evaluated one way or another, then that feels like an indictment of the whole premise!!
