    “Can we allow the person telling the story to be the expert in their experience?” .... That’s my favorite line. I don’t relate to this in higher education, as I attended an HBCU, however, I definitely relate to this in Corpoate America and in my personal relationships. Thanks for sharing this perspective that’s not regularly discussed!

    Beautiful presentation and spectacular articulation. I have faced this struggle, also having come from Chicago - still recuperating. Your transcendence is golden.
    Much love and peace to you.
    Your strength and composure are divinely inspired.

    The Code Breaker tips are excellent for all;
    1) share (meaning)
    2) affirm
    3) be comfortable holding space

    I really liked that he didn't blame white people, but instead shed light on a better way of doing what most are trying to do. Equality is good but it's not realistic at the moment and if we don't acknowledge that people will be invisible. This also explains why some of my friends who are white don't believe in microaggressions and subtle racism. It's because they are looking through the eyes of equality, instead of eyes of truth.

    That paltry applause was a micro aggression. I wonder if this young man is still at this institution.

It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive." -James Baldwin (is for everyone)

      He'd be code switching in China or Mexico, or or or or or He's just reciting the same old script that doesn't help him in any way. The world doesn't communicate in colloquialism.

    Surrounded by predators, in the forest, if you reveal your position - you'll be eaten
    Since revealing the security of the community code, the community is at greater risk And the community enemy is using the code in their comms to create more confusion in the community of origin
    Code is now broken

    as a non-American, I don't really get his experience, but it has become obvious in recent years that racism is entrenched in the USA

    People from 3rd world countries are dying to be given oppurtunity at an education that this young man has. No one said he couldnt keep his culture its just that there is a time and place for everything. In an academic environment in which performance and superior communication skills prepare you for success in the professional world it is outrageous to expect your cultural expression be given equal consideration and time.

      Can I ask you sir, who gets to determine what superior communication skills are?

      @@03rriley The professional and academic world does. Do you think that corporations, medical centers, govermnetal institutions in countries around the world accept dialect....every language has street dialect like Arabic for example has many variations of local dialect however in a professional setting only the formal Modern Standard Arabic is accepted
