I think it was done on purpose when they worked on the granny flat. They fenced off the area for the kids to play while they worked on it. They might be going to lay down some pavers or something like that from the garage doors to the flat.
I live in Ohio, northwest, usually most Lawns seeded, straw over it, and watered. They should had made sure the homeowners watered it. 💧 Just observation.

You got some GOOD helpers there Tim!! Tim don't know if you know this or not, they sell plastic inserts to hold your bag up so you don't have to keep on opening it, which is a pain in the butt. After you fill the bag they pull right out to be used again.

I was admiring how much progress you'd already made, at 7:33, and you started discussing realistic expectations. When a construction schedule falls behind, all kinds of cycles related to it can fail, as yard mowing. Looking at the sod laid. Wondering why it is brown in a time of rain. Is it expected to recover and grow, like the grass does when cut short? Bet this cleanup gave a lot of mental relief to the person you helped. Glad you've worked on construction sites over time and had an idea of how to deal with things. Greg was doing well on finish mowing.
Even in that wet grassy mess the place looks so much better, Tim. You and your team did right here, even with the weather and schedule constraints. Also, don't forget the safety gear for your helpers. Even the P95 (high particulate filtering-type) throwaway masks will help them not inhale all that stuff (saw the dust even though grass was wet).
