Wow! So impressive and a great example of going against our culture’s “get it fast and go in debt” way of building a home. You motivate me to take my time, learn, and ask for help instead of those quick buys! You’re my hero
Yes, it's impressive but a lot of Swedes are actually handy at doing a lot of the work themselves on houses to cut costs. Not all, however. My son-in-law isn't handy at all and has to hire someone for everything except changing a lightbulb. There's a British/Dutch girl who is doing something similar in Sweden and has a UA-cam channel: Roaming Wild Rose. Since you are female (me too) you might be interested in a female perspective as well. 😊
Great minds think alike cause I already follow her 😍 so calming too! Thanks for the idea cause if I didn’t know her channel, I would have loved the recommendation
My husband and I live in a log home built in 1853. One great tip I would give you which is esthetically pleasing and is an amazing safety feature is to thread your electrical wiring through 1/2 inch electrical steel conduit pipe . This allows you to be able to transport power anywhere along your walls and has an industrial vibe. We painted ours black. Happy to send u pictures if you would like a visual.
You’ve done such a beautiful job creating a forever home. So warm, so comforting, so focused on what matters as we pass through this life. Just wonderful. A soon, a tiny roommate to fill your hearts. It doesn’t get better than that. Much love to you two, and your miniature version soon to be. ❤
Hi Kalle, That was an amazing tour! I loved how you had footage from back in the days. 😃 I have a few questions: 1. Where do you store vegetables? I haven't seen any in the kitchen. 2. Do you have very little stuff? No stuff for when you have guests over, e.g., raclette, board games, play station, alcohol, etc.? Or big winter equipment, winter jackets, etc.? I saw the movie theater, the computer, a few books, a guitar, and the sauna as possible activities. 3. Are you planning to insulate the walls? 4. and most importantly, where will the baby stuff go and when the baby gets older, will they have their own room?
i would recomend you getting a tractor not even a new one just a old massey ferguson tea 21 just a small and reliable or even a volvo 425 krabat might be more common in sweden you could run a small generator in case electrity goes out pull a trailer to pull stuff like the oven you got make it gasoline so it can start during the winter
What a beautiful cosy home you have created through ingenuity, creativity and hard Labour. As you say running water and a bathroom will complete this wonderful home, especially with a young child
Add some foam pieces on the beams! It softens the hit!! You can also cover them with material and make it look lush! You have done a beauty job! Keep enjoying it!
I do agree the couch is the heart of our home. Like you, I never had that. I am now 51 and my daughter is 9 and the couch is our cozy place. We watch shows and movies on Netflix we both like and have snack parties or read or nap together, play card ad board games, always with so many blankets and pillows and the occasional cat. You’ve done a beautiful job, I’m happy for you and Christine. I look forward to watching your journey continue.
Hi Kalle and Christine.and soon a little one, Your bedroom looks so nice!!! I think the cover over your bed is called a ,'canopy' and the ones at the end of your bed are called drapes or curtains in English. At least that's what I call them😁🤪😁🥰 Your entire home is lovely!!! Take care and thank you for sharing no💙💚❤️
everyones priorities are different, for myself, I would have preferred running water and a bathroom. You have done an amazing job with the place, I am always surprised how much stuff is left behind from previous owners
Hi Kalle, Excellent changes to your main cabin and other beautiful buildings on your property! Congratulations on all of the new comforts you and your friends have completed! As you mentioned, as the years go by, we all have different goals and priorities! I know, you are looking forward to adding running water to your cabin and I wish you the very best of luck with your upcoming projects! Most of all, wishing Christine an easy delivery with a healthy baby for you both!
Have you considered an eco fan for your wood burning stove? It sits on top and is uses heat to operate and pushes the warm air away from the fire place out into the room. It made all the difference with our wood stove. Instead of just heating the living room it heats nearly the whole house. Beautiful home you've created for your family.
Bed sky = canopy...very cosy. Amazing transformations. You work so hard that sauna must feel wonderful at the end of the day. You also have amazing friends, nut that does not surprise me. I grew up in an isolated sommunity in northern Manitoba, Canada and, living up there, friends really had to rely on each other. Those communities are very special, particularly the people.
Kale, been following your journey for about 3 years. You've done an amazing job and congrats to you both on the impending arrival of your baby. My young family and I just bought our dream homestead in the Wild West of Ireland. I hope to replicate a fraction if what you've done!
Beautiful job over these last few years I've been watching you! Such a treat to see it documented. Without knowing if anyone else has mentioned this or not, but...regarding mice, one of the best deterrents is to have a cat (or cats). I don't know if Tuss and Nala have too strong a prey drive to tolerate cats, but that will definitely solve the mouse problem and also provide some lovely companionship (and foot/bed warmers as well!) Where we live here in Hawaii (vastly different than Sweden!) rats and mice are a huge problem, and our small dog's presence did nothing to deter them, but having a couple of the local semi-feral cats "adopt" us has worked a treat. They catch numerous rats and mice from our property every week and keep them out of the house. Anyways! Cheers, and best to you and Christine!
The work you’ve done is so beautiful! 😍 It’s been such a pleasure to see the transition and all your work turned out. The cable roll things in the kitchen are called ‘spools’
Your homestead is beautiful, so well done!! ...hiking 7h for grocery shopping, waking up with burning socks, 'showering' in the snow - that's some hard core cabin committment ❤
Beautiful cabin! You have done a lot of work to not only make is functional but very nice. I have renovated homes and it is costly and takes time. It's not for the faint of heart. I can see why you wanted the TV screen. It was like a reward for the work you had done up to that point. I know a family who lived in a beautiful cabin in the forest in Maine, USA. They had no running water or electricity. They had an outhouse to use the bathroom and heated water on a wood stove for their baths. They loved it! The woman gave birth to three children in their cabin. It was a great life for them. They were a wonderful family and lived happily there.
Kalle, I can fully appreciate Christine's complaints about the flow of the kitchen. It has none. I know what I would do with it. You need to put in an electrical stove and oven for when you don't need the fire, but the biggest thing would be an island bench in the middle of the room. That bench would have a very heavy wooden top so you can use it as a chopping board as well and the rest of the structure would have cupboards and draws in it. However, above the island bench, hanging from an old decorative rack of some sort that you like the look of and it could be anything at all, that is attached to or hanging from the ceiling, would be all of my pots, pans and large cooking utensils. Also, make sure there is a good light in the middle of the ceiling above the island bench giving you lots of light to see what you are doing. With the island bench located in the middle of the room, you can prepare your food, then turn around and place it directly onto which ever stove you are using. Make the island bench substantial. You don't need walking space in that room anywhere near as much as you need food preparation bench top space. So, don't scrimp and put some tiny bench in the middle. Go big or go home!
Love your home! I have a wood burner too, and it heats my whole house here in Omaha, Nebraska. I want to tell you how I clean the glass with no chemicals and for free, except for one newspaper. You dip a sheet of paper in a bowl of water, not soaking it, just a bit damp. Then you put the wet side onto some cold ashes from the wood burner and rub it on the glass inside. It takes all the black right off in seconds! If it's really dirty I do it twice. If the paper gets too soggy grab another sheet.
Have you considered moving the fridge handles to the right side. Most refrigerators can we swung both ways and it would creat an easier flow to your kitchen. You can see the two handle adjustments on your fridge door.
I 100% agree about the heart of the home. The kitchen is not the heart of mine either. It’s a beautiful, highly functional utilitarian space. But the heart of our home is our living room. Where we relax and watch movies, play games, entertain friends, light a fire and just take time to slow down. I love that others feel the same way:) You’ve done such a beautiful job. What a special play you’ve created. Thank you for sharing it.
Very nice job Kalle! I greatly admire what you have done! Excellent work! You Scandinavians are sure obsessed with coziness! But I guess your winters make that a strong value and necessity! As much as you have struggled with your project, I am sure you have learned tons! And it is your creation now, not just a cabin you bought! I think what you are doing in life is so much more meaningful than what is seen in the lives of people who work in business, say, and buy everything they need. Buy endlessly, in fact! You often make what you need. That is a demonstration of resourcefulness as opposed to the helpless emptiness seen in lives of so many money hungry worker/consumers! You rock!
I enjoyed my visit especially the tour, you are doing a lot of renovations to make it your own doing a fine job it is cosy. I love the table beautiful job it is meant for that room. I like the stove in the kitchen very nice. I have never seen a stove made like that I really like it, I like the idea of having the wood so handy. I would like to make a suggestion for in the other room please don't be offended as I not meaning to be. I was thinking if you would fit an air tight stove in there you would no longer have the smoke on the cement the stove would burn all night you wouldn't burn near as much wood it would pay for its self. I live in my cottage in the country by a lake like you I have a heat pump I have a Jotul air tight all glass in front I can put wood in from front or side, of course I do the side because the front it makes a mess, it is a lovely stove I really like. You are doing a great job, have came a long ways in a short period of time. I am so happy for you, enjoy your videos, until next visit thank you for sharing your lovely life that many are dreaming of .
Do your preserve food from your garden in the summer? If you learned how to dry and ‘can’ your own food that you grow in your garden you could contribute a lot to your monthly food budget, and when you can it yourself you know exactly what goes into it. When we were a young family with four children in northern Canada, we would can hundreds of jars a year. We canned fruits and vegetables ( some of which we bought from other people when they were in season and they were things we didn’t grow at all or not enough of), but we also canned fish, homemade soups and pasta sauces, salsas, pickles and relishes, and while we didn’t it is possible to can meat. Where you would run into trouble is that with no heat and running water, cans would freeze, which would obviously be a problem! However, you could easily dehydrate a lot of fruits, vegetables ,soups, stews and even meat to help get you through those long winter months ! Something for you to think about going forward, especially as you have a family and more mouths to feed. It also brings a sense of joy to know that you are producing and preserving for the physical needs of your . I am very much enjoying watching your Utube channel, and admire your perseverance. We have best friends who lived with 5 children in northern Canada with almost no insulation and heated by wood stoves. As they had running water all winter they had to set an alarm to get up multiple times throughout the night to ‘stoke ‘ the stoves to prevent the water from freezing. Many times when we visited them in the winter both of our families would sleep on mats in the kitchen where the heat was as the bedrooms and living room was freezing. I have to admit, I don’t miss doing that at all!!
I've been following you for a while now but it's so nice and impressive to see the before/after like this! Congrats on the amazing work you've put in making this house your home! 🎉❤
+1 on the sauna. Bought a cabin in the Swedish mountains 8y ago without running water and finally got a sauna 1y ago. Bloody best thing Ive done. Complete game changer for us in the without running water-gang. Love it
Your home is so lovely and cozy! I think it was such a smart idea to open up the mudroom entry area and increase the ceiling height! I don’t think I could live there without that breathing room of tall ceiling to tolerate the shorter areas.
I've enjoyed your channel, your creativity, the forest and your lovely filming. Thank you for sharing your life. Your refrigerator/Freezer looks as if the hinges for the doors are on the sink side of the appliance. Many refrigerators have made provision to switch the hinges in case of need. If yours were switched, it would be easier to get stuff out and put it on the counter beside the fridge. I hope yours can do that.
very cool, nice work! my grandparents built our summer home when I was little in the north of Russia, I remember adding hay in between the boards for insulation :) and my grandpa expanding and adding on another room, it is A LOT of work but very rewarding and fun!
Huge difference from then to now, have you ever considered painting the couch white or even green like the door Christine painted up stairs? I think it would great painted. 😊
You've built a beautiful home out of everday objects, stunning. One observation could you reverse the door opening on your fridge /freezer as most can it would make it easier. Merry Christmas 🎄✨❄️☃️
Hello Just found your channel on here Your cabin is incredible What you have achieved is nothing short of a miracle your dog Tus is very sweet Andrew 💐💜
Wow it's absolutely amazing to see how it all began! ☺This will be such good memories for you and your family later on and even now it's amazing to see the before and after 🏡🌲✨
I have a friend from North Dakota in the US. we both live in Arkansas, the south, while on a visit with her to see her family, there was a sauna which we were invited to use, we gracefully said no thank you, where we're from all you have to do is step outside in July, and you will be in a sauna....
What a cool video. ❤ I always wondered what the cabin looked like when you got. The first video I saw on your channel was the one where you were building the table out of the kitchen floor. Have been subscribed ever since. 😊 We are starting to restore a 110 year old farmhouse this spring. Your videos are always very inspiring. Thanks for your great content. 🙂
They are called spools. These spools hold cable wiring used on construction sites. Very nice cabin. I like the spools. Maybe paint them to brighten up that corner. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely video Kalle, thanks for sharing:) But don't paint your kitchen stove white! it will get so dirty so quickly and you'll constantly be having to clean/repaint. What about a blue to match your outside fascia boards? Otherwise, a black to match the stove? Just a thought. Keep up the wonderful work!
Great video. Your interior design ideas have inspired me to make some changes in my own home, notably I've gone with yellower, warmer lighting. One thing I noticed in your kitchen--have you tried putting your refrigerator handles/hinges on the opposite sides so the fridge opens into the kitchen rather than towards the wall? A lot of refrigerators are built to allow this, I did it with mine. It makes a huge difference in the ergonomics of the kitchen.
I believe the word you were looking for Kalle, was Sparks- that is the fire that shoots out of the fireplace that can be dangerous. The Cabin looks amazing. You have all done so much work on it. What are the plans for the future? I know you had mentioned putting in a bathroom and shower? Also Congratulations to both you and Christine for the new bundle of joy on the way. :)
Wow. That cabin has come a long way thanks to your (and your family's and friends') hard work. It all looks so cozy. I love the cable reel cornercabinets in the kitchen and the media room.
They are called cable 'spools' and people have used them for the bases of tables for some time. The corner isn't too busy, it's just fully occupied. When you live somewhere, all available space gets used. Great job and excellent video, best wishes to you and yours in the upcoming year.
Great video. Listening to you work your way through the English word for something (Mouse/ Mice) makes me chuckle. Remember - You speak more & better English than most us us speak Swedish or Norwegian.
Really nice changes and upgrades. So glad the heating is much better now too. Maybe your curtains on the end of the bed, keeps some cold drafts off the bed at night. Nice place. The Sauna is beautiful, great work. We can tell that the heat isn't going out of the roof, because you have snow on the roof, it's not melting! (from Sandi)
Re: Your Fridge, almost all modern fridges have doors which can be reversed from side to side. Might it be helpful to have your fridge door hinged on the left and opening from the right? Just a thought. Wonderful transformation over the 5 years. There is a lot to be proud of!
Beautiful to see the whole transformation. Those things in your kitchen are known as cable reels here in the UK. They come in all sizes and wood thickness and are very useful. I turned one into a rocking chair.
Kale You have done an excellent job with your cabin! It is nice and cozy and it’s home! There is a saying “ There is no place like home “. God bless you and your better half and soon arrival! Merry Christmas!🌲🌲🌲❤️

My husband and I live in a log home built in 1853. One great tip I would give you which is esthetically pleasing and is an amazing safety feature is to thread your electrical wiring through 1/2 inch electrical steel conduit pipe . FANTASTIC!!! So much work n so worth it!! I pray this home is perfect for you n your family for a VERY long time!! Blessings from the USA
It's a real pleasure to watch how you make your dreams come true 😊❤️
Wow great job Kalle, this is such a change. You made this cabin a real home!! Greetings from a Canadian cabin 😊❤

You did an amazing job. It looks so warm and inviting.
Another fine video Kalle. You should be proud of all you have accomplished -- and so well -- in 5 years. Congratulations!
We call those cable rolls, spools in English. Love the cabin
Beautiful cabin. I could live there easily. I love the front door. Worth the expense. You have done an amazing job.
Now make lots of precious memories with your beautiful family and enjoy it
very cool, nice work! my grandparents built our summer home when I was little in the north of Russia, I remember adding hay in between the boards for insulation :) and my grandpa expanding and adding on another room, it is A LOT of work but very rewarding and fun!
In the kitchen they’re wire spools for commercial electrical wire. 😊 this is lovely.
Huge difference from then to now, have you ever considered painting the couch white or even green like the door Christine painted up stairs? I think it would great painted. 😊
Please never give up on UA-cam! I adore your videos guys! Both yours and Christina's!!! Bless your baby toooooo
Have a good 2024 ..... Best regards for you and your family!!!
It was so beautiful in 2017, and you’ve really taken it to the next level over the years! What a lovely home!
Plz upload regular vlogs. We really enjoy your videos 💕💕
Looks good! Your stairway needs a hand rail. Carpet can be slippery also. Unravel is the word for materials unwindinding.
I am from Scotland and your home is amazing !what a lovely couple x
You've built a beautiful home out of everday objects, stunning. One observation could you reverse the door opening on your fridge /freezer as most can it would make it easier.
Merry Christmas 🎄✨❄️☃️
Beautiful girls! Thank you for helping them!
Beautiful. What an enchanting place.
I would paint the kitchen ceiling white too. And get an induction cooktop for everyday use.
I'm very impressed with what you have done Kalle...you've turned this rustic cabin into quite a nice and cozy home. :)
Hello
Just found your channel on here
Your cabin is incredible
What you have achieved is nothing short of a miracle
your dog Tus is very sweet
Andrew 💐💜
Such a great video Kalle! So fun to see the difference between then and now.
The shelf in the kitchen is made from ca le spools. The round knobs used to attach the flooring are called pegs in english
Beautiful Cabin. So cosy and warm. You are very talented in many ways.
A wonderful home for a family.
Thank you for showing us your achievement.
You have done wonders! Great job! It is beautiful 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Well done Kalle! I’ve loved watching your journey ❤
Thank you for being a part of it 🙏❤️
Knowing you did all the work, there is something special about that. It's something you can't buy. Beautiful and well done 🌻✨️
They are called spools. These spools hold cable wiring used on construction sites. Very nice cabin. I like the spools. Maybe paint them to brighten up that corner. Thanks for sharing.
I watched you from the 1st. Video! You've created such a fine home and have given alot of people inspiration to follow thier dreams! Skol! 🍻
Wonderful walkthrough Kalle. You’ve worked your magic on the cabin and really made it an amazing home and place to live.
It’s absolutely beautiful. I love what you’ve done with it.
Lovely video Kalle, thanks for sharing:)
But don't paint your kitchen stove white! it will get so dirty so quickly and you'll constantly be having to clean/repaint.
Very impressive . The downstairs is so open, and you were so right to paint the ceiling. It looks so airy ! Well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Beautiful! Now with baby coming maybe drill a well and septic do you can have water and bathroom. Keep up the great work! ❤
Love the renovations you have done and keeping everything as organic and reusing pieces for other purposes! 🙌🏻
Fantastic such an achievement you should be soooo proud of yourself
Great video. Listening to you work your way through the English word for something (Mouse/ Mice) makes me chuckle. Remember - You speak more & better English than most us us speak Swedish or Norwegian.
Really nice changes and upgrades. So glad the heating is much better now too. Maybe your curtains on the end of the bed, keeps some cold drafts off the bed at night. Nice place. The Sauna is beautiful, great work. We can tell that the heat isn't going out of the roof, because you have snow on the roof, it's not melting! (from Sandi)
Wow, you did a great job renovating the cabin, I love it!
Fantastic job on your cabin's renovations and love your sauna! Happy to have found your channel & looking forward to checking out your videos :)
Oh, Kalle, the place is just looking so much better & so cosy nowits all coming along real well. Congratulations on a job well done. 😁😍👌🇦🇺🇳🇿
It’s not just a bit cozier, it’s SUPER cozy! I’m jealous!
Such a goog job you've done ! It's really beautifull ! You can be proud of you !👏
What an impressive remaking of the cabin. It was rustic before, but now it's cozy, more functionable and liveable. Great job on the sauna too.
Re: Your Fridge, almost all modern fridges have doors which can be reversed from side to side. Might it be helpful to have your fridge door hinged on the left and opening from the right? Just a thought. Wonderful transformation over the 5 years. There is a lot to be proud of!
Nice usage of the cable spools. We used to use them too as we lived next to a maintenance garage of a power company in the US.
Hi from 🇨🇦 Wow , what an amazing job you have done
So beautiful! I been watching from the beginning❤ Love everything
Beautiful to see the whole transformation. Those things in your kitchen are known as cable reels here in the UK. They come in all sizes and wood thickness and are very useful. I turned one into a rocking chair.
We in Finland have allways in our summer cottages a fireplace witch keeps the warmth 24 hours
Kale
You have done an excellent job with your cabin! It is nice and cozy and it’s home! There is a saying “ There is no place like home “.
God bless you and your better half and soon arrival!
Merry Christmas!🌲🌲🌲❤️
Yeah it looks a lot better now, love the snow ❤❤
Incredible. Absolutely magical.
