    Thank you very much
    Something was explained here that I have not had explained from anywhere else!!!
    A Spirit came to me with a vision , that for each life, reincarnation - we have a "spirit." , and when we pass on, that spirit goes to reside in our Soul.
    It makes SO much sense, with what you say here - Fame seeker/Maitreya and etc, THANK YOU!

Please by all means go beyond what you wrote in this comment section. Your innermost self is desiring to go beyond what you stated. Surpassing this is precisely fully comprehending and mastering what you wrote here. I would love to hear about updates on your spiritual journey.

    I have recently begun to study and practice Buddhism and your videos are excellent. After reading the Lotus Sutra I was confused and a bit intimidated by how little I understood. With your help I am going from scratching my head 🤔 to saying Ah ha! I get it now! Thank you 🙏🏻

      You made me SO happy! I am very glad the videos are serving your purpose. If you read the Lotus Sutra for the first time and got confused, you are definitely on the right track. It seems to me that not understanding that first is part of the great learning about this sutra. Looking forward to learning Buddhism and the Lotus Sutra with you further!

      Sorry to bother you again. But I had a second thought about your learning. While I am overjoyed to hear that my channel about the Lotus Sutra is helping you learn the sutra, I suggest that you also look at some of the basic Buddhist teachings such as cosmology of six realms of desire, dependent co-arising, no-self, impermanence, four noble truths, eightfold noble paths etc. The Lotus Sutra was composed assuming that the audience of this sutra was already familiar with these basic ideas and practices. If you are wondering where to start, I recommend Rupert Gethin's "The Foundations of Buddhism" (www.amazon.com/Foundations-Buddhism-OPUS-Rupert-Gethin-ebook/dp/B005OQGBLC) If you have any questions as you advance your learning and study, please feel free to raise questions on my channel. I will try my best responding to them. Once you get some basic idea of each basic teaching, please consider applying what you learned in your everyday life situation. For instance, thinking of my situation, "How can I cope with my anxiety about whether or not I can really complete doctoral dissertation on time? How can I use a Buddhist teaching of four noble truth and apply it to my situation so as to alleviate my anxiety?" Sincerely,

    It stood out to me that Manjushri mentioned twice Maitreya's past as 'fame seeker'. Although it was perhaps meant more as a indication that Buddha can come from anyone, it also felt like humor to me.

    Would you so kindly tell us your thoughts about teachers in our schools , in our education system , do these teach in order to get famous or use their knowledge to instruct educate and help others from being ignorant in ignorance > So all those that teach can be said anything about them but not that are seekers of fame . Fame is a side effect for altruistic deeds and one better legging it if the danger of becoming famous comes too close . No human is above an other human but a best could have something helpful and MUST be respected Not make famous yes ?

    I was wondering if all this beings present in this first chapter are to be seen as real or as something metaphorical and/or symbols
    Thank you

    • @AwakenYourInnerBuddha
      @AwakenYourInnerBuddha  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you, Frank, for your excellent question. Your point puts a finger on the heart of the textual strategy of the Lotus Sutra. In an ordinary sense, we can say that celestial beings and most bodhisattvas who are among the audience in this chapter are symbolic. However, this ordinary assumption would be--in my opinion--missing so much of the juicy part of the Lotus Sutra. I guess making readers of the sutra wonder as you are wondering like this is precisely how the authors of this sutra are hoping to see happening. When you imagine these beings in your mind as you read or recite this part of the Lotus Sutra, what kind of impressions come to your mind? What kind of feelings or experience does that give you? Even though these beings may be just symbolic, the experience you would be having in that imagination is real to an extent that appeals to your experience. In this sense, these beings are symbolic and yet being symbolic also means real in some sense. What difference would it make when you read this part of the Lotus Sutra by considering these beings as either real or symbolic? Looking forward to conversing more with you.

    • @TheCardanoArmy
      @TheCardanoArmy Рік тому +1

      To assume that you know enough about the workings of the universe to decide whether these beings are real or not is the biggest mistake of all. It is not at all impossible for celestial beings in the sutras to be real. Quite the contrary actually.I regularly attend a Vietnamese temple as well as a pure land Chinese temple both of them weekly, and I can say without a doubt that myself and the community in both temples wholeheartedly believe that the celestial beings are real.
      I'm making a point to say this because I see so many people in my area of the United States approach Buddhism as a sort of anti religion. Where they think that Buddhism is strictly grounded in logic and does not pray or believe in higher powers or deities. That is a big mistake Buddhism whole heartedly believes in celestial beings and believes that they are real.

    Why have we forgotten our vow made in the past to become a bodhisattva?

    • @AwakenYourInnerBuddha
      @AwakenYourInnerBuddha  Рік тому +1

      Excellent question! I have been studying the Lotus Sutra for years, and yet don't know the answer to your great question. So, why have we? I guess this is because pre-recalling period in the present life in which we wonder around and being unsure about the true context of life helps us cultivate our compassion so as to be empathetic to all other fellow human beings who are having similar concerns. If we were all the time aware of the bodhisattva vow we made, we won't be able to understand the suffering of other beings who are unsure about what their life is truly about. Because of this, forgetting the vow is an essential part of our bodhisattva practice. Does that fly?

    • @simondorlaq5885
      @simondorlaq5885 Рік тому

      @@AwakenYourInnerBuddha Your perspective on forgetting the vow as an essential part of the bodhisattva practice is interesting. However, I am not sure if forgetting the vow is the only reason why we go through a pre-recalling period in this life. From a Buddhist perspective, can you explain more about the purpose of the pre-recalling period and how it relates to our spiritual growth? I dare add this remark, that even the Lotus Sutra says nothing about why we forgot our vow. Everything is said there except for that. There is undoubtedly a crucial reason behind this omission. Maybe the answer you already gave might partially clarify this point. I like your channel, thank you for this impressive work.🙂

    Is “fame seeker” to throw shade at Shakyamuni?

    • @AwakenYourInnerBuddha
      @AwakenYourInnerBuddha  Рік тому +1

      Probably not because this name is to refer to Maitreya rather than Shakyamuni. However, I think you have a good point. The whole point of the concept of the eternal life of Shakyamuni that is revealed in Chapter 16 is only tenable as a result of rejecting the idea of Shakyamuni as normally people think of him (as a psycho-physical biological person). That's in a way "throwing shadow" at Shakyamuni, isn't it? For all his disciples to attain Buddhahood, the very notion of the Buddha must be ultimately rejected to reveal the full meaning of the Buddha that is so meaningful that it is inconceivable. Thanks for your comments here and there.

    • @AwakenYourInnerBuddha

      This is a great question! I tend to think Bodhisattva Maitreya to be male. However, if you search images and statues of Maitreya, many of them show seemingly genderless appearance of Maitreya. Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara who was considered to be male was transformed into a female image in medieval China. Is Maitreya a lady for you? What is the significance of considering Maitreya to be a lady for your study and practice of buddhism? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
