    Question Rev. Mikawa, After witnessing Buddha’s great powers of illumination of countless worlds how is it in the coming chapter 5000 people from the audience get up and leave ? I mean if l were privileged enough and endowed with good karma to be there and witness miraculous powers of insight why would l be offended and prideful? I can never imagine myself doing such a thing or anyone else, and yet in the Lotus Sutra it did happen. I’m reminded of Moses in the Old Testament of the Bible and all the miraculous happenings that his God made happen and still the children of Israel worshiped a calf of gold. I enjoy so much reading this wonderful Sutra and believe it to be true.

    • @AwakenYourInnerBuddha

      Thanks for raising this excellent point! Yes, you are right that a common answer to your question is that these monks are complacent and prideful and hence are no longer interested in learning further in spited of their witnessing the Buddha's miraculous power. You are trying to go further than this common answer, which I found encouraging and exciting! I think a deeper and uncommon answer to your question is to say that even these backsliders, those who seem to be too far from becoming a buddha, will become a buddha without an exception. I think this is secretly a textual strategy of the Lotus Sutra by way of which the sutra implicitly makes its point of the universal Buddhahood.

    What do you think of the Christian concept of Theosis, apotheosis or divinization (in the Latin tradition) being the purpose of human existence as stated by the ancient Christian churches. Is it the same in principle to the message in the Lotus sutra? Would love some feed back especially from people who understands the Christian concept I proposed, as most Christians (Protestants) haven't a clue about the Catholic, Orthodox Church teaching of these concept and may say that it even heretical, even though that isn't true from Church documentation on the subject through out history until present day.

      @@AwakenYourInnerBuddha What is a person who is a fully realized Buddha, God or man?

    • @TryingToFollowChrist37
      @TryingToFollowChrist37 2 місяці тому

      @@AwakenYourInnerBuddha Theosis or deification (deification may also refer to apotheosis, lit. "making divine"), is a transformative process whose aim is likeness to or union with God, as taught by the Eastern Catholic Churches and the Eastern Orthodox Church; the same concept is also found in the Latin Church of the Catholic Church, where it is termed "divinization". As a process of transformation, theosis is brought about by the effects of catharsis (purification of mind and body) and theoria ('illumination' with the 'vision' of God). According to Eastern Christian teachings, theosis is very much the purpose of human life. It is considered achievable only through synergy (or cooperation) of human activity and God's uncreated energies (or operations).

    It’s interesting, I’ve been thinking a lot about attachment in Buddhism in terms of Attachment Theory in psychology. Now, as a quick caveat, I think we should be careful not to reduce spiritual work to psychological work, particularly as I read the Mahayana critique of the “Hinayana” as not a critique of contemporary Tharavadan traditions, but a critique of the tendency to reduce religion to psychology and moralism. That said, I think Attachment Theory gives us a good way to explicate attachment: Attachment Theory recognizes four general attachment “styles” or tendencies: 1) Avoidant, which is basically the same as aversion in Buddhism; 2) Anxious, which is basically the same as grasping; 3) Chaotic, which is basically a false, quantitative, and thus chaotic balance between Anxious/grasping and Avoidant/adversion; And 4) Healthy, wherein one can have loving, compassionate, dynamically balanced connections (“attachments”) to others, to things, and to activities, but without undo aversion, grasping, or chaotic bouncing between them. And, in Attachment Theory literature, they have found that people with healthier attachment tendencies are able, as you say, to respect the attachments of others and generally respond to others in more loving and compassionate ways. Your driving example is excellent!

    Important to note: These realms are REAL and not "metaphorical" things that we subjectively interpret, meaning just as you are awake now, you can reawake in another. What's fascinating and special about Buddhism is that it doesn't depict Gods as perfect unattainable unfalliable, that ALL conscious/sentient beings are subject to the wheel of Dhamma.

      @@Soekell There was no need to ask. She told me. Not once, not twice, not a few times, but multiple times, day after day, multiple times even on any given day. Since it seems you like to quote scripture, keep in mind that you yourself may need to reflect on Mark 9:24, "I believe; help my unbelief". Why do you not believe that I could be so patient? Why do you assume that I must be wrong in assessing what I was able to accomplish? You understand your own faith, what do you know of mine? I say I have a practice, what do you know of what that practice entails? Really, what does it matter! I received an amazing gift, a gift of immense patience and calm in working with, supporting, and caring for my mom over a period of months until she drew her last breath. This is a gift far beyond what I could ever have asked for. Perhaps you should ask yourself, "why can I not celebrate the good and the blessings that fill the lives of others?" Perhaps reflect on Romans 14:10. I wish you a life filled with blessings.

    •The 3 marks of existence Everything is suffering, impermanence, and non self,, •Suffering - all living beings suffer in different ways, mental and physical suffering, mental suffering like stress, depression, worry, etc. and physical suffering like disease, skin or organs problems, wounds, etc... •Impermanence - nothing last forever except change, everything or everyone will die or will change, like people, house, plants, possession, gadgets, perspective etc... •No self - everything is made out of 4 elements, fire water earth air, example is the house, how to build a house? Need stone blocks, how to create stone blocks? Need some earth or dirt, combined with water, then shaping to blocks after that need heat to be cooked and steady then need air to make the blocks dry and finish product, and humans and other living beings too are created by the 4 elements, People have heat in their body to not get cold, and water like blood, and air to breath, and earth is the physical form of humans and other organisms (living beings), Humans are just like cars, humans have organs, 6 senses, hormones, chemical reactions to the brain and the nature of mind, nature of the mind is greedy for sensual pleasure to the 5 senses, and car have engine, wheels, fuel, lights, windows, etc.. That's why humans are just like animals, humanity just invented sense of self, the sense of "me" "mine" "I'm this" "I'm that" but in reality all living beings are just an organism in the environment, So everything are just organism trying to survive everyday, name, labels is an illusion it's not real because truth is beyond words and beyond ordinary people and ordinary living beings understanding What do you think about 3 marks of existence? What's your perspective?

      That's also what Reverend Ichishima of the Tendai school told me in Kyoto, in a taxi. That that is the essence of the Lotus Sutra. As @AwakenYourInnerBuddha says it is a contradiction between "always already are" and "becoming" that are both true simultaneously, the way you can think about it is something the amazing Robert Thurman said that he experiences his current life as if a reflection (or retrospection) of his own future Buddhahood looking back on its own past.

    I'm listening through the lotus sutra right now.. and... There is so much stuff repeated... Apparently useless stuff repeated so damn much... I was expecting 11 hours of wisdom and lessons and insight into being a better person and Buddhist. 99% of it is "and he received a prediction, that he would live so many kalpas and helps so many innumerable conscious beings and then become a Buddha, and describing the world of a Buddha a thousand times. A world made of lapis lazuli, and completely flat, while interesting, doesn't sound great to me. I like mountains! I'm 9 hours in only there's only been 3 twenty minute sections of actual lessons in it...

    Buddha never denied or confirmed a creator God that means Buddha was non theistic but not an atheist. Buddha realised that God is in every beings heart so we need not discuss it but rather focus on ending our suffering. In a few texts Buddha did mention creator God brahma that our Buddha nature would be praised by all gods for its purity. So Buddha knew God is in everything including him as an awakened human. So we are all gods or Buddha it’s one and the same thing. 🙏🏼
