    I hate when I do left turns or going straight at a 2 way stop, cars still going at full speed, so it's not safe to turn, and then a car behind you gets impatient and starts to honk their horn to rush you. It's not helping the situation and can make you often more nervous.

    Thanks for clearing things up. For some reason I had this conception that if one vehicle is turning left, and one is turning right. No matter who stopped first, the vehicle on the right has priority. I guess I thought this because its easier for the vehicle on the right to make a turn, whilst the vehicle making the left has to watch 2 lanes of traffic instead of one.

    In Michigan at a two-way stop priority resets if there is cross traffic which prevents the first car from turning left immediately. Then the opposing car will have priority if it is going straight or turning right.

    6:17 pretty sure 90% of the drivers I come across need to watch this part of the video. I can't tell you how many times I've been in a situation like this. I'm waiting at a stop sign for traffic to clear. I'm about to make my left turn and the person going straight thinks they can over-take my priority even though I've been there long before them.

    • @TeamOrdigamer

      It's interesting because this is the only driving source online that I found that mentions that first come first serve rules apply to two way stops too. This may be correct here in Quebec (where this channel is based) as they don't really teach us anything in particular, so I assume its meant to be taken as a four way stop. However, other driving channels/websites based elsewhere say that straight-through traffic has right of way over left turning traffic, even if the left turning traffic is already waiting, similar to a left turn on a green light. I don't really know what's right anymore but I think, at least where I live, first come first serve is the way to go.

    For a video idea, I suggest that you show more of the intersections that you arrive at to give us practise in looking for pedestrians. You could record your driving on a daily basis, and show us a few intersections at the end of each video without fancy editing and no commentary, or you could show these intersections in separate video, also without fancy editing and no commentary.
    The whole idea is to give us more practise, and to give you more content to attract more viewers to generate ad revenue.
    If you add commentary and fancy editing, then that's good for me. I'm just concerned that it will take up an unfair amount of your time.

      You can look left and right 1000 times... but, if you don't move forward at all, you won't see anything new. So, in most cases, you must move forward.
      Change your mentality, think: "I'm going to go [slow & constant] unless I need to stop... again" Instead of "I'll wait here [forever] until I see something to justify waiting forever.
      I have a strange reference that may help you in terms of where to look... I mean how far down the road. In my opinion, about 50 meters (half a block) down the road and almost always, there is a [metal or wooden] pole there. Take a look at 4:20, the pedestrian Carlos circles is at the corner in between 2 large wooden power line poles. In the upper right corner, you can see the next power pole half block down. This is roughly how far you need to look.

  • @johnpachkoski4637
    @johnpachkoski4637 2 роки тому

    self notes
    Whatever lanes and areas have stop signs, thats where traffic is going to move and that you have to yield to, and that usually can be counted to determine the amount/tyupe of stop it is(2 way or 4 way)
    1. always stop at the stop line unless you know for certain the traffic on both sides from the left and right is clear, then go, because then if theres a person behind you, the car behind you may hit you because they think you're going to advance fully because they see its clear too. Not stopping a stop a line with no traffic also isnt neccessary, its illegal though if there is traffic and you dont stop in some places.
    2. Some examiners will fail you for looking left and right for vehicles but not for pedestrians ahead of you. So observe after the stop line cross to look for cars (if the stop line area is clear of pedestrians), and then look for pedestrians ahead of you.
    3. regardless of whether cars are moving or not, always give them the right of way and yield to them unless its yours.
    at 2 ways stops: who arrives first has priority/right of way.
    If they dont cross each others paths, priority does not matter.
    If at same time and priority does matter: Whoever wants to turn right or move straight has priority to move first. (the one that has less distance to cover)

    There has been an increase in traffic on the country road where I live and at one point it crosses a dangerous high speed intersection. 3:55 I honestly have a problem with this idea that we always need to be mindful of drivers in the back. There is no reason to override one's good judgment because there are drivers in the back that might hit you. There is no reason a driver should 1. blindly follow me in the intersection 2. tailgate me as much as to hit me if I were to slow down again. What if I'd slowed down because I saw a fallen person in front of me that the driver behind couldn't see? I'd rather do what is safe for me, especially as a *learner* driver, rather than alway be concerned with impatient a*****

      I mostly agree with you. That's why I don't necessarily agree with the rule that we should check our mirrors each 10 seconds or whatever. @6:25 the black car has priority. Which makes COMPLETE sense. But not here in Canada. Where the law states: When facing a stop sign and the oncoming traffic also has a stop sign, left-turning vehicles must yield to oncoming traffic that is proceeding straight, regardless of who arrived first. Regardless of who arrives first...can you believe that last line. This country blows.

    • @70ixlr86
      @70ixlr86 6 місяців тому

      Regardless of who got there first, the person turning left has opposing traffic. Not only cross traffic, but opposing. Who got there first is very commonly obscured by cross traffic. As well as who stopped first, at or after a stop sign. Non turning traffic, should have right of way.

    Bro istg every sing time I’m on a two way stop and turning left while the person on the other side is going straight when I arrived there first, they always just go as if they have the right of way🤦‍♂️. I always almost crash because of them.

      Me too. I was in the same situation as you. Canadian don't understand turning left go first when you come first unless we both come at the same time. We are not use the same rule as US.

    Does he have any videos that discuss what to do at intersections where there is NOT a stop sign? I’m always afraid someone is going to walk into the street so I move very slowly there. I also turn slowly there in case someone coming towards me is speeding.

    amazing reasons to always stop at the line then advance check and then go. Im new to learning and all of my experienced driver friends say u only have to do that for the test but i disagree! Especially what u said about giving drivers the impression that ur not stopping that happened to me during my lesson and i got nervous like are they going? So thank u as always for the amazing info. I will always follow what u say!

      That was the thing that scared me the most when I started driving. I'd be practicing with my sister by my side, and every time someone would do that I'd brake suddenly and start freaking out. My sister was always telling me: "It's ok, they'll stop". That wasn't the impression I was getting though. I still get that impression sometimes to this day, and it's a good thing. Some people are so bad at driving that you have to always be on the defense. Drive for yourself but also for others, as they say.

    I think you’re wrong. Have a read:
    I’ll admit, I didn’t reach this conclusion on my own. I was recently at a meeting with local law enforcement officers, so I asked them who had the right-of-way (or more correctly, who needed to yield the right-of-way). They unanimously stated that the car turning left needed to yield to the car going straight, no matter who got to the intersection first.
    I countered that if both cars are stopped at the intersection waiting for traffic to clear, the car going straight: a) isn’t in the intersection yet, and b) doesn’t constitute a hazard, and that one of those two situations had to be present in order for the turning car to have to yield. Experienced collision investigators that they are, they responded that if both drivers decided not to yield to the other, the turning car would hit the car going straight, and the fact that a collision resulted would be pretty good evidence that the car going straight presented a hazard. They made a good point.

      It might be like that where you drive, not here. Here, whoever stops first has priority.

      4 way stops are in no way the same as a 2 way. Telling who stopped first is not possible when both drivers views are blocked by cross flow. Even 4 way stops can have this condition when traffic across from each other can not see stop timing of the other driver. A stop first expectation when obscured by cross flow is impossible.

      If the stop sign is before or after the line, you stop at the line. If there's no line, you stop a bit before the corridor where the pedestrians cross the street. That's usually where the stop sign's post is.

    6:25, I thought the rules were a bit different at two ways then 4 ways. I was told that vehicles going straight or right have the right of way over left turning vehicles?

  • @mothman_slayer4217

    6:30 happened to me early today I had priority stopped first and everything I was going straight and the cop just comes needing to make a left turn, the road cleared and I cautiously went forward watching his vehicle for movement and the cop cuts me off.

    what if both the vehicles are stopped at the same time and stop and want to turn to their respective left? whats the scenario?

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  3 роки тому

      In almost all cases, you can turn at the same time, since your paths won't cross. Unless the intersection is very narrow, but that's very rare. If that's the case, you'll have to communicate. There's no priority for anyone in that case, since you're both in the same situation. I have a few videos on intersections coming this fall where I'll discuss that, among other things. Stay tuned!

      They can go at the same time, since their paths don't cross. Unless the intersection is very narrow or the vehicles
