Mom never spanked me. Dad did when needed. All mom had to say was, "Wait til your dad gets home". Ruined my day until dad got home. When dad got threw, I went and took a shower. Put the cold water on my butt. Lol.

So true. Kids and young people today constantly need entertainment. They can’t just sit in a bus, car, train or plane and look out the window. They must be entertained! I’m 65. I can fondly recall playing I Spy on car trips with my parents. Or just taking in the changing scenery as we drove around. My mother pointing out cows, sheep, lambs, birds etc as we drove to our relatives who lived in the country. Now, if they don’t have their DVD’s, phones, game boys, iPads or even just a small game they’re besides themselves. Sad.

That "next generation" started moving into my area close to 40 years ago. They had a flashy car in the driveway and nice furniture on the first floor. Inside the garage was the other car (15 year old Ford) and upstairs the mattress was on the floor. We called them 10 cent millionaires. BTW, they came here because their company offered to help pay for the move and gave them a raise, which sounded great... till they found out what it costs to live on the east coast near NYC.

This is SO true and while funny here, it is tragic in real life. I see young couples making big payments on a $60,000 SUV they bought brand new. And guzzling expensive Starbucks every day which REALLY adds up. Just a plain "tall" 12 oz. coffee is $2.25. If somebody had one every day of their working life of, say, 40 years that's $2.25 x 365 x 40 = $32,850. (I guess leap years would a few dollars more.) If that money were invested, with compound interest at an average of 8%, it would come to about $234,000.00 after 40 years. The magic of compound interest is something the government hasn't quite figured out how to take from us. Yet too few take advantage of it. And then there are those $150,000 student loans for things like "Art History" or "Ethnic and Civilization Studies" that really have little to no job opportunity. These people could have a VERY different future if they learned money management and more responsible decision making.

@@thomascurran6186 Not really. For example, for 2023 you pay ZERO federal estate taxes up to $12.92 million. Above that, you pay for the amount over $12.92 million. Most people can therefore do very well and avoid paying federal estate tax. Of course, the more people vote for democrats, the more likely that will be lowered. And there are a number of ways to mitigate estate taxes even on the amount above $12.92 million. For those states that have estate taxes, the thresholds vary from $1M to $9.1M.

Add in they need to live in HCOL cities to make use of that expensive toilet paper in oversaturated job markets, and all the 'perks' they demand their employers have availability which takes away from being able to pay more workers with better salaries and its really easy for some of them to have no money.

Baloney. TVs have come way down in price. The minimum wage was raised at least twice a decade for many decades prior to the 1980s. In the early 1970s a average price of a new car was around $3500 (now it's 10xs that). Rent & homes were a fraction of what they are nowadays. A teenager could graduate HS & get a union factory job or union job without getting into deep student loan debt "back in the day". The Federal minimum wage has not been raised since the 2000s.

would you pay them to do the amount of work they can usually handle? It's no wonder they can't make a buck!

Yes and no. Some of those places could pay more but that would require getting rid of a lot of the unnecessary perks they say they 'need' to be productive. They all go for the same degrees so the job markets also wind up oversaturated- not enough jobs to go around and if they have to create positions to accommodate, that lessens the salaries they can pay.
It's not just us being lazy/bad with money but it's also not just the fault of the companies being greedy. I'm all for supporting yourself but one spouse working, one spouse staying home/working part time really was the best thing for people.
