By default we are usually more into metal related projects - but you just have to love this project! Clean, simple, practical and very well executed. Hats off :-)
There's a saying (in the U.S., at least) that says, "The cobblers kids have no shoes." The idea that nearly all makers deal with - you're always building stuff for everyone else, that personal projects get pushed back. Glad to see you're making something for yourself!!
Beautiful choice of materials Laura & I love how the bottom of the desk transitions right into the floor! It really unifies the two surfaces and makes for a inviting and personal space, great job :)
Echt wieder ein tolles Video. Seitdem ich euren Podcast höre sehe ich die Videos aus einem ganz anderen Blickwinkel. Finde echt interessant und hilfreich was ihr so sagt. Bin gerade selber in Münster am Design studieren.
Watched it tens of times, I still don’t get how you can get perfectly straight lines using a rule, your fingers as guide and a pen on the other side. That’s just magic.
Love the desk, and the domino technique for the corners is dope, but what we need is a video about those tattoos 😄 I know it's off topic, but they look so cool !!
@@EarMaster55 you're looking at a shot meant to convey the end result of her build project, how she orients the computer may be quite different than how it's positioned in this shot, and probably is different for the very reasons you've stated.
@@chetleonard169 I hope that's the case. But if not it definitely is going to cause some serious back and neck pain. This is something which slowly builds up and you for yourself tend not to see it until someone mentions it. That's the reason why I pointed this out.
@moo I cut a drop shelf into mine to lower the iMac, because I have progressive lenses and I was always having to put my head back and look down my nose to see the screen properly.
You actually hade a pretty good rendition of a clasic, decades-old inexpensive desk: Two steel filing cabinets with a wooden door on top. (The cutout for the doorknob can even act as a cable port.) These are actually rather deeper than are needed nowadays, it was really an idea for back when you needed the depth for the CRT-based monitors of yesteryear. (And this really is that old. The first time I saw this idea, it had a picture of it in use, and there was an Osborne 1 on the desktop, back when that was still a serious business machine.)
I would totally slap a small trimming under top to avoid sagging overtime. You could turn it into a small pencil drawer ;) . I like the color and simple finish solution to its surface. Music got bit repetitive. Maybe two tracks one for marking another for assembling or showcasing. Thank you for sharing, you got yourself a nice neat work environment. My best. Tomas.
I need to do something for an area where I currently have a small desk I refinished when I was 15. It’s dated and I want something more rustic/industrial. Well. That’s what I’m thinking right now. By the time I get to it, it’ll probably be more futuristic Jetsons. Who knows.
Laura, another stellar video. loved the smooth jazz. Please teach me your trick on the miter corners on your top, they were really awesome. Thanks again for sharing.
Patrik is quite right - let me add some detail... The Desktop is a bunch of stuff, shortcuts, files, folders. These are loaded into computer memory, ie, RAM. If these are shortcuts, they don't take up much space. But if they are Files, or even FOLDERS, they can have a big impact, occupying your limited resource, the computer's memory. You can use the Desktop to store stuff to easily find it in the short term, but then later, store it elsewhere. Make a shortcut to it if you want. Just don't store big stuff on the Desktop, long term. Oh ! Nice desk. :-)
Looks nice. I would have fixed the wobbly edge on the cut out section of the worktop if it was mine. Especially as it's the bit that faces you. A plywood template to follow with a router would have been nice.
Super awesome build and video as usual Laura! (Only thing I've been noticing for quiet some time now, I'd say you have too big of a difference between the level of your music and when you talk, but yeah awesome vibe as always!)
This is a very smart project and a very entertaining vids as they all are Laura. Found your fascinating channel today and loved everyone I have watched so far and it inspires me to tackle more adventurous projects myself. Excellent, thank you for uploading :-)
Super geworden. Da merkt man, dass du nicht so ländlich wohnst wie ich. Schwarzen MDF habe ich noch nie gesehen, ist voll cool. Danke fürs Zeigen Gruß Sascha
The box itself is a festool 'systainer' tool box, but the insert for it looks like a 3rd party tray. There's a lot of plans and designs that you can cut out online, but that one looks very well designed.
It is probably this: www.dictum.com/en/tool-sets-baod/dictum-tool-carrier-cabinet-making-interior-work-equipped-43-piece-set-718812 They have it either with all the tools or just the wooden tool holder and you can put your own tools in.
@@Weitewand Why not make one, suited for the personal tools tossed around in the shop anyway? Most of the tool-crate parts are scrap-ply sized, and it's a maker's tool tray, so every maker should make one, shouldn't she ...?

That desk is *never* going to come apart. That's some elegant design, Laura!! Beautiful work
Laura makes cool stuff while we bob our heads in tune.
Can't belief how you create such a nice project every week. Not one single project any less than the other. Love this!
❤️
Black MDF, beste!
I dig the black and white scheme. Really clean lines; looks nice and modern. 😊👍
Love the way when the sheet fell there was still a big smile on your face! that's enjoying what you do right there!!
The surface is just ... wow! respect
Glad to see I'm not the only one who works in the shop in sandals! Thanks for making such great content.

Perfect design for a studio. Shelf space on both sides and see through leg area. Probably the best design for efficiency and functionality. Very nice!

Thanks guys! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
This babe is full of surprises. Waiting for the Camper video..
Love the table, awesome project as always. Love to see the Black and the Amazon in the background, i see you're a woman of culture as well
I like how absolute relax she is, wearing sandals while working.
Safety sandals, which work best worn over German safety toes, of course.
Your jigsaw skill is extremely impressive.
Everytime I watch one of Lauras videos I keep a look-out for the Kamen Rider figures. The last shot I was very happy to see next to Amazon also Black.
Felt like playing two dots. Great build!
Ohh you finished it 😀 i thought only cutting till the end 😀😀😀 like the colour 😀 of the desk
Great video! I love your videos and your music! SOOTHING and relaxing!

Nice improvement . Studio getting better and Smudo is the best !
It looks great. I like it.
It looks like Smudo approves of the new desk.
Beautiful desk, Laura!
Love the simple elegant lines. Wonderful.

Thanks!!
If it's simple, and nice, and they have a lot of space,. very good work
now you need a shade for the window to reduce glare on your imac screen. More projects with Ellen ????
Also it looks you sit too close to your screen and the screen of the iMac is too low.
