Turner has been known to pigeonhole into one format or two. The most common format to win with for Turner was kid vid (mainly because of Cartoon Network). CNN's only spinoff to do well was CNN Newsroom (now rechristened CNN 10 [after the minutes the videos run, updated every weekday during U.S. school years]), as that was Turner's attempt at to make something for the NCTA's "Cable in the Classroom" program.
I'd also say corn channels, since there are a lot of them out there also, HOWEVER, I don't think Luis would be allowed to talk about them due to obvious reasons. There were also music channels he didn't talk about (yet)
33:09 As for Newsnet shutting down, America's political landscape splintering (which is one reason that Scripps News is shutting down it's aerial service, by the way) looks to be the other unspoken factor. The major full-service network affiliates filling voids in their schedule with newscasts (which have ramped up since they're now programming all-news OTT supplements [LiveNow, CBS News, Tegna's '[Local]+']) didn't help either.
I did watch NewsNet quite a bit. It wasn't a bad channel at the beginning, but the news became repetitive. I wasn't even aware that they had gone off the air until last week.
@@MrE51917 technically the feed still exist they just change it the channel name and programming. It was a digital cable exclusive channel because it wasn't available in DirecTV and dish network
There was also the All News Channel which ran from November 30, 1989 to September 30, 2002 & had a format similar to Headline News. ANC was also carried on some over the air TV stations, as well, usually during the overnight hours on weekends when ABC, NBC & CBS didn't have their own overnight news programs.
NBC’s Nightside did air seven days a week throughout its run. A few NBC stations that didn’t already carry ANC, in addition to Nightside, did begin taking the channel’s overnight/early morning programming after Nightside ended (my local NBC affiliate, KFOR, being among them).
Great video Luis. I’m glad I could learn some things about the history of news coverage from you. You’ve picked some of the coolest outro songs to your vids but I can never find the sources for these amazing songs. Can you make a community post linking to the original songs or something please?
The moment when a question you didn't have hours before is answered randomly in a UA-cam video. I didn't care what Doliotte was when I read the name in an article this morning and now I know and feel slightly obligated to care. And now I'm over it.
Not gonna lie, I was wondering if the extra wait was because it was gonna be about defunct video game developers, but I'm guessing the demand for stuff like this never dies, does it?
A grocery store checkout lines TV channel… seriously CNN who needs this thing anyway. At least in Canada that didn’t exist, i worked in a grocery store recently and i only focusing on the fruits and vegetables side only.
Considering how many CNN channels were in this video, you might as well have called this "Defunct CNN Channels" and get a bunch of confused viewers and take advantage of the clickbait.
If you do another video, please do sports. Here's some dead sports channels for ya: -NBCSN: Formerly Outdoor Life Network and Versus, NBCSN was well known for its coverage of the Tour De France, the Olympics, multiple motorsports, Premier League, FIFA, NHL, and college sports. It closed in 2021 and sports coverage that was once on NBCSN went to USA and Peacock -Pac-12 Network: Opened in 2012, the network showed Pac-12 college athletics. It was a part of Spectrum, and it shut down in 2024 after 10 of the 12 members left for other conferences. There's a non-zero possibility the network returns since the Pac-12 has acquired more members. -Speed: Speed was a motorsport-centered channel that was a part of Fox Sports, and found in parts of the Americas and Australia. It was replaced in 2013 by Fox Sports 1 in the US, as well as other networks elsewhere. -The Olympic Channel: As the name suggests, The Olympic Channel showed Olympic coverage as a part of NBCUniversal. It was once Bravo HD+ and Universal HD. In 2017, the channel was rebranded to The Olympic Channel, but shut down in 2022 shortly after the Beijing Winter Olympics, with Olympic coverage moving to other NBC channels. -ESPN 3D: A part of the massive 3D channel wave, ESPN 3D showed recorded and live sports in (surprise, surprise) 3D. It was shut down in 2013 after low viewership.
And ESPN Classic-- a lot of times when that channel was in, I saw old broadcasts w/the graphics and announcers of the original networks, like the old NBA on CBS for one (far better than how ESPN and ABC are these days w/the NBA).
I remember the Dixon, CA supercentre having those checkout screens. They were Powerpoint (of course it was Powerpoint) slideshows on a Windows 2000 computer, which I've seen at start up (or it's crash screen) more than once. Not sure when it was updated, but the music used for basic slides had far lower fidelity than the video slides (usually promotions for whatever TV show or short videos with things like recipes or recent events). Of course the pharmacy screens (I've seen it try to do startup repair) and checkout systems have had bootup issues on their Windows instances as well.

It’s such a pointless invention like the longest I’ve ever spent in a grocery store line was like five minutes
Ted turner was going through a divorce then.... He wasn't thinking clearly! 😂
The Checkout Channel is such a pre smartphone idea. No way they could've anticipated a mini custom television in every pocket
Though Casio did make a TV watch in the 1980s but that was a proper high roller kind of thing
Well, it's nice to know that CNN Plus wasn't the only failure CNN had in expanding its network.
