The one thing I hate is when they cant control there dog. When I go out with my service dog. I dont know that there is a police dog in the mall. There is no sign or anything. So when I go walking around and turn the corner there was a police dog there and the second it look at my service dog it tried to attack him. My service dog looks at me for a command. The officer is yelling at me to get my dog away. As I am walking away my service dog is still looking at me and is calm. I turned around and told the officer that if he cant control his dog then he shouldn't be a K9 officer.

The subway is underground (difficult air pressure for dogs) and in addition to that, also very crowded very loud and smelly. These dogs not only need to feel totally comfortable down there, they have to be able to fully focus on doing their job despite the noises and the smells etc. Many lives depend on the dogs' ability to find a bomb in time.

Don't be discouraged about how to find training. Look for a Search and Rescue team in your area. Learn how to navigate, read maps use GPS tracks. How to flank a K9 team, learn body language of the K9, these are all the important first stepsin becoming a great handler!
Go Military, select MP for Army or Security Forces for Air Force and then test to be MWD (Military Working Dog) Handler. It is the surest way. You could be a super experienced prior service Military K9 handler and still not get selected for Police K9, as sometimes it is more a seniority or politically connected selection. Starting out, Karen Pard gave excellent advice. A dog's body language an tail will tell you all you about the dog and the situation. You can also get your own dog and start training it in IPO (tracking obedience and protection). Giving you this piece of advice as far as dog training goes: the only time two dog trainers will agree is that a third is doing it all wrong.

My Yorkie mix dog would definitely made the K9 team. I was crossing through a heavy and tall grassy field. when I arrived home I realized I lost the marijuana that was in my pocket. I took my dog to the grassy field . She(Princess) my dog found my drugs .
The Lt. is depriving his dog of sleep, pitiful!! The Lt. should sleep every 15 minutes, wake up every 15 minutes and patrol his own house, laziness... That's crazy, $10,000 for a damn dog at taxpayer's expense. That isn't including the thousands of dollars it takes to train a K-9.
