She misses a big recommendation here. Just always dress closer to how the locals dress and walk with confidence. This is huge. Lose the backpack, get a small purse to keep track of or no purse and keep everything in your front pockets or a waist pocket such as a fanny pack in front of a belt around your waist. If you look the tourist totally you’ll be more easily targeted. If you look like you could be a local they’ll go for the tourist instead.
Termini station is fine. If you’ve traveled to big cities before such as Paris, Madrid, London, then the street hustlers will be familiar. You do need to put all of your stuff away and keep
Your phone in your hand. Keep all bags in front of you and your eyes on them as you move through the station. It’s not that big of deal.

I just got back from Rome yesterday. I felt super safe the entire time there, although we stayed near Termini station. Still had zero issues. Never felt threatened and didn’t loose anything, but we ALWAYS had our bags on our fronts and our phones in the inside pockets of our jackets,

I visited Rome twice, and as very careful as you said. Very sad that it is that way. By the way, an extreme contrast would be Tokyo, or Japan in general...you can leave valuables on a street corner and find them the next day! Oh my goodness!

    • @nvalles2565

I agree with this. I was in Japan last summer and no problems. Utmost respect and welcome to Americans for sure. In fact, as a teacher, I was shocked to find people stop on the street to now at me in respect.
This year I was in Italy for the second time and though it was beautiful and we had an amazing time, out of a week full of meals, we had good service only twice. Sad. In fact, they were beyond rude-out of their way rude at times. Another foreigner who lives there told me this is common to all foreigners because they figure they will never see them again so they are rude. It’s sad that my second visit five years later was disappointing in terms of the people.
The best and most friendly people I’ve ever met in Europe have been the Irish! I’ve been to many countries (about 13) in Europe and they remain the most friendly and helpful to people. Wow!

The thing about Termini is probably the same you could say about many central station' s areas.. It is like a really mixed place where people come and go and there are many social contrasts too. Btw I find Esquilino a fascinating place..could depend also from the exact area maybe?

In Caracas the places for tourists sound safer than in Rome, especially regarding pickpocketing. As in any big city in the world, you may find people who make their lives through crime and offenses but in Caracas the chances to meet one are pretty low if you keep yourself out of the slums and outskirts.
As tourist, safety means to remain always alert and have common sense when choosing the paths to walk and places to hang around.
Good tips by the way, but the reference to Caracas is really inappropriate. I've been in several countries (Europe and America) and all the big cities are the same, but some have good propaganda and others are subject to smear campaigns (even from their locals, specially those who only know the world through the mainstream media viewpoint)

There's even a section with very high-end foodie restaurants that looks like it could be one of the piers in San Francisco, which makes for a really nice place to hang out if you're early for your train. I was in Rome a week ago and I totally understand where you are coming from. We went to termini on a daily basis and there is lots of police so I did feel save, at least during the day and afternoon (haven't been there past 10). There are lots of homeless people and people who try to sell you stuff, don't make eye contact or say no and walk away (that worked for me). At termini and napoli centrale we were warned for pickpockets so we were extra careful. I also read lots of warnings online but for me it wasn't as bad as it sounded online. Don't make yourself scared and enjoy Rome, just be careful with your belongings like in every big city.

So we could get a sense of what it looks like, and see how it might be confusing (labyrinth/maze factor)
Edit: also, if you haven’t already made one, could you maybe do a video discussing potentially dangerous (or at least bad for tourists) places we should avoid?
And maybe like when to (what time of day to steer clear from said places).

You will be okay, It's not that bad to be honest as long as your not staying out to late and be mindful of what's going on around you, take a bum bag or money belt and keep it tight around your waist you'll be fine, me and my girlfriend are from the UK and we backpacked around Rome on the 4th of February for about a week, we stayed in a very nice hostel called freedom traveller its about 5 mins from termini station and we went out for walks to get food and see what's around the area it's a pretty safe place and nothing to really worry about..the only thing I'd say to watch out for is there's quite alot of homeless people that sleep/camp around the station but they normally keep to themselves and the MacDonalds right outside the side exit is very dogey after dark alot of shady guys hang around there, but other than that we had no problems and felt pretty safe the whole time👍rome center is a beautiful place to explore, i hope you have a great time and enjoy your stay there.

The more tourists in a city, the more crowded it is - and the more pickpockets are going to be about. Like she said in the video, tourists are easy targets, and anyone who can afford to be a tourist is rich compared to the pickpockets. You'll hear from all sorts of people how you have to be really careful in such cities, and it's all good advice. It does give an impression that it's much worse than it really is, but fact remains that if you are careless you stand a good chance of being targeted by pickpockets. So be a bit paranoid, and it may not happen to you.

Most locals would talk about NYC. Chicago, or LA the same way. They are pretty safe, just don't be an idiot. Every single white person in LA knows what's up in Compton, but if someone visited from Rome, you'd have to tell them the city is safe but stay the fuck out of there.

I booked WRH Termini (North of Rome Termini) by accident during the summer, paid too. I am worried it's not safe at night after a night tour. Furthermore, the hotel is said to be on the 3rd level, accessible by security pin on first level. Overthinking but I also scared that someone might follow me up by charging into the lift. Should I change hotel?

What did they steal?. There is no such a thing as a safe place in the world. I had my car stolen from a high security car park in London. Every minute cars are stolen in London. I have visited the poorest parts of the world and you can pretty much leave your belongings unsecured and nobody touches it. The world became greedy and dangerous since the financial crashes.

Whats in the outskirts of Rome? I once saw a very beautiful woman on the internet called Ciara she was from a suburb of Rome. Why is it dangerous in the suburbs?

    • @mard9802
      @mard9802 5 років тому +1

Hello, there really isn't much to see in the suburbs of Rome from a touristic point of view. There is one suburb I know of called La Prenestina that you avoid (nothing to see anyway). Some of the suburbs are fine but, as a tourist/ traveler there is tons to see in the centre. I lived in Rome for 2 years and nothing happened to me. If you go, you keep your wits about you. My niece is going to Rome soon and I pretty much gave her the same warnings as this vid. I would add, not to let some dude dressed as an ancient Roman soldier take your pic or be in a pic with you (around the Colosseum) - they will charge you 50 euro. And keep your distance from gypsies no matter what - they will attempt to beg and/ or steal from you. Generally speaking, Rome is fairly safe. The lady in this vid is just steering you from petty theft can happen in touristic areas. There is much to see in Rome - especially if you like art, history and great ice cream.

    TIPS FROM A SOLO TRAVELER
If you wanna travel safe and have a nice trip:
    1. Don’t dress like a tourist (please for the love of god) you’re just asking to get mugged you’re an easy target.
    2. Don’t be naive. Don’t trust nobodyyyy (I mean nobody) if someone comes up to you 9.5/10 they just want your money.
    3. Watch your back always. If you feel something off about someone, then try to get the fuck outta there, always watch your environment.
    4. Buy a money belt (cost 10 dollars on amazon) and put it under your shirt really good investment.
    5. If someone comes up to you to sell you something or try to be your friend. Ignore them. Act like a fucking prick and ignore them, they don’t exist. Perioddddd
