The first Devil May Cry is vastly overshadowed by its later incarnations (for good reason), but this game is always worth playing, warts and all. It's the start of the Extreme/Character Action subgenre and has perhaps the best atmosphere of any of the games, and its core gameplay is still not too shabby. Also, while it was a translation error in the first game, it IS Nelo Angelo canonically. You'll understand why it perma-stuck as that by the time you get to 4.
Oh, interesting. I did a little bit of looking into it while writing the script and only found that it was a translation error (on top of "Nelo" sounding a little goofy compared to "Nero"), so I'll look forward to that whenever I get to 4.
@@Daistri I'm going to be honest. The name Nelo Angelo was never actually said in any of the games, but it shows up in the enemy files in DMC1 for the boss (they are in game), and the enemy files for certain enemies for DMC4 (I believe in the Library section in the mission select menu). Like I said, it WAS a translation error, since Nero Angelo literally translates to "Dark Angel", but, yeah, due to the error and likely due the fact that a certain character exists, DMC4 ended up keeping the error and making it the canon name. I BELIEVE DMC5 also did this, but I'd have to look through the Enemy files there as well.
@@MILDMONSTER1234 Ehhhh... I love DMC1 and all, but I disagree. DMC1's enemies are great, but I think DMC5's selection is much better (the best, in my opinion). Further, it has the flaw of not mixing any of it's encounters, so it becomes incredibly simple to deal with your foes the moment you see the first one in the room. Speaking of gameplay, DMC1 also suffers from two gameplay issues. The first is that it's combat is much more simple and limited than other entries (except 2. That one was even more simple and limited). The second is it suffered the "swimming curse" that it didn't shake off until 3. DMC1, however, does have the absolute best atmosphere in the series. Really sells the "gothic action horror" vibe better than any other game in the series. I sometimes just boot up one of my copies just to wander the castle and soak it in. As for DMC4, It beats out DMC1 in combat alone, while still having the third best enemy selection, second best visuals, and houses THE best boss in the series (Credo Angelo).
@@1Synner Why? Enemies in 1 are far more aggressive and have a larger variety of attacks. Frosts alone have 6-7 attacks with an aoe and ranged attacks which is more then what any enemy has in dmc3 4 and 5. And it’s not just frosts, shadows and nobodies as well. Kamiya has always been better at enemy design then itsuno (bayonetta is another example) because dmc1 is not about flashy combos like the rest of the series it’s more akin to Ninja Gaiden and Bayo especially on DMD. I like this game when it's not on DMD
I'm not a devil but it made me cry tho
Whats worst abt the ending is if you inspect the plane in the beginning, part of the engine is ON THE FLOOR, it explicitly states the following "from the look of things, it hasn't been repaired in a long time,it doesn't look like it's going to fly"
Please, this kinda same video with other parts of this series, really enjoyed your voiceovers, specially where Vergil reveals his face that was epic 👌
I just recently binged DMC 3-5, so I've finished the whole series now.
I MIGHT continue relatively soon with DmC 2. It'll depend on whether I've got any other ideas going on
Sometimes we all just need a break from *SWORDTRICKGUN SWORDTRICKGUN SWORDTRICKGUN*
14:45 I feel like the developers first Scorn got inspiration from this
Pretty damn good first project mate, kudos I definitely enjoyed it as a fan of the series
This video= absolute masterpiece omg I can't wait for you to make a video for the next DMC gamess
The HD Collection version of DMC1 is based on the Japanese version which is significantly easier than the original NTSC (USA) PS2 release.
Japanese version was harder what do you mean
@@DannyLee-zv9gl It was NOT harder. The Japanese and European versions were easier, Japanese being the easiest one. Please do your research.
1:45 Simple silly stuff like that is the icing on the cake for me.
Recently got the platinum trophy for this game. Took a long time and lots of practice but it was definitely worth it
Great dub, great narrator, great work at all 👏 👏👏
DMC1 Parkour is stupidly hard.
That busou renkin theme song is a man of culture I see
YES
Great video! I just started replaying this again recently
just found this and i hope you continue this type of content and i wish you the best of luck to continue growing
Aye the part when Dante goes in the thrown room is too funny 😂😂
Nice job! This was really good!
8:54 if you know the directions you can beat M13 within a minute
i love how you changed the dialogues💀
(it gave me a brain aneurysm)
Thank you! I've never written abridged dialogue before, so Im glad it turned out well
2:12 I remember this part so clearly in the game
Really good video, good humor very much enjoyed. Will require DMC2 and beyond
That second Nightmare made me want to break my controller.
Holy shit, this is so high quality
Thank you!
"Come on out or no *balls* Mundus!"
"Yk Dante? Its a good thing i can make you a new Mommy, cuz I'm about to *sun* your ass"
Underrated abridging abilities bro goes hard
I was VERY proud of that line
if it gets remaster it will be awesome
"Underwater levels, who's idea was this?!"
Name's Hideki Kamiya. Notorious for making fantastic games with at minimum one random experimental level with half-baked, completely different gameplay from the rest of the game.
