My Bullmastiff was an awesome breed representative. His color was red, he was 25” at the shoulder, his head was 29.5” diameter, ripped muscle and an AKC Champion. I did Schutzhund training too. No one ever beat him in a tug of war; I would line up 6-8 muscle heads to try and out tug him, one right after another. Beat everyone of them. Ice cubes were his reward, and praise. He was a man stopper period, they way they all should be. Damn he’d rip a man to the ground with protection on, and a regular sleeve couldn’t protect from his bite force, had to use a bite bar. I had so many adventures with him.
I have had big dogs all my life. The one I have now is a Rottweiler 10 years old and has developed kidney failure. Im considering a Bmastiff as his succeeder. My only concern is my age, im almost 70. Thanks for your videos.
I'm an active 83, and I adopted my Bull Mastiff 3 years ago. He's a joy, intelligent, funny, and obedient to simple orders. He has learned to walk at my place, and enjoys our daily outdoor routine. He loves playing with my 2 cats, is adored by family members, and did I mention affectionate? A superb watchdog!
Sorry for your rottie! It’s a difficult time when our beloved companion passes. I really was down and out when I lost my girl Daisy 5yrs ago to a sudden illness. I’m bringing home a baby Bullmastiff this month and I’m very excited! Being that a Bullmastiff doesn’t need long hikes to stay happy I’d think they’d be a better choice for you. They’re happy with a good daily neighborhood walk. Which we should all do even in our latter years. Being large they need basic obedience in order to be trained to not pull you on lead or knock you down. Did you ever find a new pup?
@@swaminathan8452 i've owned pitts, amstaffs and beagles. They're all more energetic than these dogs, clearly... less active, i would say bullmastiffs are low to moderately active. Nothing against this breed though! Lovable doggos yes they are. I'm just saying i don't think they will be RUNNING UP WALLS OR LADDERS like my pitts did or do weighted seld tows, have to constantly play fetch etc. Even going full turbo and doing death howls and cries at the sight of a squirrel like my beagle did. It is embarrassing when everyone looks out their windows to see if your killing your beagle when he just wants to "get dat squirrel". You would be shocked at how alarming beagles can sound.

I have a brindle bullmastiff. She is nearly 2 and is pretty active, likes 2 good walks a day of about an hour a time. I also have started mantrailing with her, which she really enjoys.
@Rebecca Cattell so how was your experience, if I may ask? Did her energy go down so dramatically or are you still walking her 2h a day? Trying to find out if it’s really a breed thing or if the energy relates closer to what they are accustomed to…
@@alinefaure3646 She's 2 and a half now and will easily do 2 hours a day, as much off lead as possible. We do between 1 hour and 2 hours a day, with the odd rest day. She's very keen on mental engagement too and we do a bit of obedience training (reward based) and scent work as well as mantrailing when we can.
@@rebeccacattell568 thanks for your response, I appreciate it! Wow, sounds great 👍 I love that they are not as hyper as other breeds but the idea of a couch potato was putting me off a bit. I enjoy taking long walks in the forest. Something else I am wondering about and would love to hear your thoughts on. Where I live, there’s rather paths than roads in the forest of mostly about 5” width and we encounter various dogs on our walk. Unfortunately, a lot of them are leash reactive or off lead and just rush towards us. My Golden mostly reacts calmly and it’s easy enough to control him. How about a guard dog breed though? Have you had similar problems with your dog? Is it possible to have them relaxed in such a situation where you practically have to touch each other to pass and minimal space to evade?
I've got a bullmastiff pit mix who came out a miniature bullmastiff. All the instinct, proclivities, stubbornness, defiance and discernment of a bullmastiff. She only responds to positive reinforcement. "No", must include an alternative behavior command option and immediate praise for compliance. They'll "get it", you have to start them young. If you do, they learn how to learn, very quickly. Boundaries and rules become instinctive. They have no ranking instinct or food aggression. Two big pluses. She required limitless patience and diligence to train up as an obedient, and offleash controllable working guard dog and trusted family member. I have acres of forest, and lions here, and they love dog. Countless hours and consistency, patience and effort, resulted in the most useful, trustworthy, controllable, courageous, confident, loyal and loving dog, I've ever known, much less owned. Only a well trained and happy bullmastiff comes close. She's 1.5 years old now, maybe 55 pounds and still growing slowly. I don't recommend this mix to anyone however. You don't know what you will end up with. I seriously lucked out! And the time required is excessive and unavailable for many. So do not even consider one, unless you understand the meaning of commitment, and are committed. Unless you can have patience, you've no business having a bullmastiff or any banddog. But a properly bred, properly trained bullmastiff, is hands down the best dog there is, for your fun and safety, for loyalty and love, one fully trustworthy with your family and friends. A dog who can tell the good guys from the bad. (That requires lots of good guys and no bad guys, carefully sheltering it from them for the first year.) "Bad for the bad guys, good for the mailman"...;) Damn right! The end result is worth the effort, ten fold. Especially with defense training commencing at age one. ✌

Hi. This is Nicole. I own Jax, the bullmastiff in the video. They can drool. Some more than others. For this breed a lot depends on the shape of the flews. The more pendulous (long and droopy) the flews are on the muzzle, and how deep the pockets of the lower lip are, the more saliva collects and they drool. The tighter the mouth, the less they drool. All will drool after eating, drinking water, or when presented with treats. Lots of small washcloths work great to clean the mouth and limit the drool.
we have a bm with a slightly longer snout and she dosent drool as much as you would think, only realy when she can see fruit or cheese she loves yellow food for some reason.
yes their breed is based on holding poachers and thieves at bay while not inflicting serious injury. if wounded fatally or not the owners of the Estates would have to pay the families of said the if. it makes for and excellent watchdog/family pet. that being said they can certainly be trained to attack and bite, which would result in serious injury from a dog with a head that size.
Boxers are active but get bored easily too so you always need to do new stuff with them to keep them occupied.Up to around year 6-8 they are really active if you encourage them(they like to do everything with their owners, not alone). After that they start to ease off a bit as they become older, dog always looks strong and capable, even in older age.
Ross Tucker I don't think there's an Tosa breeders in the USA. Maybe a few owners but I doubt any breeders. Your gonna probably have to buy him a plane ticket to Japan for that buddy.
We've just adopted a 2.5 yr old female B. Mastiff. So far, the drool is considerable but we feel is manageable. Drool happens the most when feeding and drinking or when our dog is highly excited. Cuddles on the couch, no problem. Depends of course on each individual dog. Results may vary 😉

Ouroboros not really. They can usually handle one to two 30 minute walks a day. Their large size combine with being a brachycephalic breed means they get out of breath and hot very easily. Walks around the neighborhood or short walks around the park will be enough for these guys.
I hate these dogs! I was just walking down a path with the little girl i babysit and I see this dog running towards us, bowls over the litter girl and bites her neck!
