      Same. I wanted to suggest it but figured it might not be what he wants to mess with. No 4k (J5 is the exception), no telephoto primes, and terrible lens reliability.
      With how expensive the CX Nikkor 70-300mm was, I'm just dreading when that plastic gear that drives the aperture assembly wears down.

    • @JamieKitson
      @JamieKitson 13 днів тому +2

      @@Gael32 True, but you know how Kasey loves to buy new gear and then complain about it.
      I was hesitant to suggest it for a different reason, I didn't want to drive the prices up!
      I bought a CX 70-300mm on ebay and it arrived broken, I've replaced one cable and am about to replace the second, however it looks like the FT1 adapter and 70-300mm AF-P or AF-S is an option too.
      Also, 4k on the J5 is only at 15fps 🤣

    • @Gael32
      @Gael32 13 днів тому

      @JamieKitson Yeah, now I actually want him to do it, lol. There would be epic amounts of complaints, and I would love to see the boardroom meeting.
      Really though, with the J5 they seemed to be on the right track. I prefer the v3 though. I can only imagine that a v4 would have been just about perfect if it had ever been released. If they had QC'd the lenses better it would be amazing. The 18.5mm f1.8 and 32mm f1.2 are fantastic wide open, but the reliability of the 32mm's aperture mechanism keeps me from using it often.

    • @REXAudioSRB
      @REXAudioSRB 13 днів тому

      16-80 sucks not just because of stabilization. It's not that sharp and they sacrificed aperture size for more reach. 18-55 is cheaper and better, 16-55 also better, I would argue that even 15-45 is better.

    I’ve recently got a Sony APSC 70-350 for my A7C in an attempt to get a much smaller lens closer to Olympus’s 75-300 but for Sony. I can go into crop mode and get 10mpx or crop the vignette in post and get about 15mpx. It’s a full frame equivalent of 525mm at the long end and you can still use clear image zoom with video/jpg, so I’m happy with it. Thanks for taking us along on your camera journey. The 200-600/180-600 are both really sharp, so the 600pf is really only sharper towards the edge of frame or if you use a TC. Where you should see a difference is weight, VR, balance/handling, and it’ll be around 600mm at close distance. The 200-600 is more like a 530mm at close distance.

    Hi Kasey, bit of advice needed and yes I know it's slightly subjective.
    I've been photographing my local football team: action shots (not many in truth) but the chairman has asked me to do the pre season team portrait.
    For the action I'm using the Panny boy with the Leica 200 T2.8 but for portraits and closer shots I'm on the Fuje.
    My question to you would be, and they're all primes, which lens for the group photo? 16mm, 35, 56 or 85.
    I'm probably gonna shoot at T8 as the chairman wants the stand behind to be in focus also, so will probably be Stabed up with a tripod.

    Hi man, I got into wildlife recently and I have a X-S20 currently and a 70 300 which I loved but the reach for any birding was not enough and with fuj shitty focus your video af is all over the place and useless eventhough you've got the color magic. I got the 150 600 to try and that's much better with the reavh and more magic but the lens is bulky although I loved it, and thought the xs20 would not cut it with the HD 240, so I wanted to try 4k 120 and ordered xh2s just to try and see if the slow mo and the 4k 120 worth it or more magic or should I return and stick with my xs20 with more slow fames and less quality (tried AI upscaling and was okay) but time consuming and probably not similar to the original. What's your suggestion? Nikon better or fuj? I love the fuj but auto focus is hell, can't get any bird in flight video or photo and all out of focus, only works with stationary subject, although I'm a noob and don't know what I'm doing.
    Now the question should I send back both 150 600 and the xh2s?
    Should I keep 150 600 and sell 70 300 + tc 1.4 (which is very travel friendly and the other one not really)
    Or keep both lenses send back xh2s after test?
    Keep all and be broke?

      JP is a Nikon hater, and the newest test from Tony Northrup is pure clickbait. Yes, ALL stacked sensors have a little less dynamic range than non stacked sensors. Because they focus on video and electronic shutter and speed. The 10 years old APS-C DSLR Nikon D7200 has better dynamic range than the Sony A1. Or the Nikon Z8 or Z9. The old Nikon D750 or Z6 has better DR than the Sony A7SIII. And the DR in Video is a hole different story. But all are between a range of a half to one stop. If you need more than 5 stops recovery of shadows in post, search for another hobby. Und below 5 stops, the noise of Z6II and Z6III are the same. Don't believe the UA-cam clickbait hype and go outside and make great pictures with proper exposure.

      @@Sky-ne5gn I have the 1.10 version of firmware installed. I guess, it's because the flight speed of Western house martin is up to 11m/s, and I want to shoot it from close distance (roughly 3m to 8m) to have it cover large portion of frame. So, this 11m/s is quite big speed relative to short distance of 3m to 8m. I guess, the lens just doesn't keep up. I very rarely even manage to keep adequately panning, such fast it is. And, if I do manage to keep it in the frame, then AF misses. I'm using 8FPS burst mode, shutter speed over 1/1000, but looks like 1/4000 is needed to not have the bird blurred out due to speed. I need to try to shoot slower and/or bigger birds, to fill the frame and hit the focus.

    Glad to hear you’ve finally come to your senses closet Nikon Boy and got the awesome NIKKOR Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S. The Nikon synchro stabilization for video with "real" glass is perhaps the best. That lens is awesome and weighing only ~3.25 lbs. makes it that much more amazing. If I could have afforded it with the Z8 and other lenses I wanted I would have been tempted. I went with the 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR for the price and convenience of the zoom but wish it was a bit lighter. Looking forward to your videos covering it paired with the Zf and Z6II.

      Primes tend to get lighter with each generation. Beyond the weight reduction, Z lenses (except the 180-600) are all exceptionally balanced which makes them feel much lighter and extends the time before muscle fatigue when shooting. Even helps in the backpack as you're less likely to have pressure points digging into your back from gravity doing it's thing with an off balanced load. Fresnel elements are not used on all of the light lenses from Nikon btw. Lighter materials and less glass due to advanced coatings and optical designs are playing a part. But even if you go back pre af and vr, there were some fairly long light lenses floating around (not the norm, but they exist).

I get the weight factor, but af-s tele lenses for nikon have very good stabilization (the ones that have it). I wouldn't expect you to stick with any of them due to the weight, but you can basically get the same optics as the very high end Z tele lenses for a fraction of the cost. You are out of your mind if you feel the weight/balance of the Z 600 PF is "pretty close" to the Z 180-600. The Z 600 PF also has far superior AF, far superior VR, far sharper edge to edge, holds up an order of magnitude better in less than good light, better tripod foot setup, and has better ergonomics overall. The least appealing option to you may in fact be the 600 PF. It is pricey, no doubt on that. You can get the F 500 PF in 10/10 used condition with a 6 month warranty for half the sale price of the Z 600 PF in new condition. Optically (adjusted for the 100mm difference in focal length) they are virtually identical in the lab/well controlled test. The least attractive option to me in the Z super tele lineup is the Z 400 f4.5. IMHO, the F 300 PF is the better overall lens in the super light, super small, travel friendly super tele category. You can get them used 10/10 condition for about $800, very fast AF, very good VR, very sharp, decently close MFD/repro ratio, and it literally fits in your jacket pocket.
      The F 500 FL lens is an exceptional lens, which all by itself beats everything Sony and Canon in the super tele range for general wildlife/sports action. It is essentially optically perfect. It is not 100% handholdable, IMHO, and its a bit of a pill on longer walks/hikes. But the IQ out of it is out of this world at that focal length.
