How's she goin'? I like board and batten siding. Especially when it's rough sawn. That's what I have on the camp. It takes a stain or a paint nice and rarely peels!! And it just plain looks good. Your shed is going to be sweet!! Take care!!
Nice job on the board and batten! I’ve seen to many people but their boards up tight against each other and use way to many nails or screws. I’m a big fan of deck screws. I work alone almost all the time. A little trick with the spacers I put a little extra board on the side of the spacer and put a screw through it. Then run the screw just a bit into the board to hold it. Really looks good!
Thanks. I agree there needs to be room for the wood to expand and contract. Also, you don't want to force it to stay in place as it will be more prone to crack and buckle, wood is always moving. Deck screws are okay but construction screws that the big box stores provide are garbage. They snap way to easy. I like nail since they are flexible and move with the wood. Concrete for pressure and steel for flexibility. Excellent tip you provided. Thanks again!
Good Day Paul, the hammering issue is due to the wind. Blows the nail head around. Loving the build process, we've finally got back to the barn this last week. Definitely not the same quality as yours though. Have a great day! 🌲🌴🪚
Looks really good Paul! I really admire your attention to details. I was under the impression that with green wood you could place them tight against each other and their natural shrinkage would eventually create the crack hidden by the battens? Removes one step with the spacers.
Thanks Alex, The gap will most certainly widen thus centering the batten that is an adequate width is important. I put space between the boards because I don't want to drive the nails through the batten and into the boards. I am not allowing time for the boards to shrink. If there are nails on each side of the board then chances of cracking and warping goes way up. Also, the swelling aspect would cause the wood to buckle which is a bigger headache. The boards underneath the batten need room to float as you know wood is always moving, contracting and expanding. Nails on one edge of the board and the batten with pressure on the other should help keep the board from curling opposed to having a nail in the center.

Thanks, once the wood weathers and gets a stain coat it should look great. Have a fantastic evening.
Coming together nicely Paul.
It's a lot of work but as you said it's coming together nicely.
Good morning Paul, board and batten buildings are my favorite. It is exciting seeing it come together. Cheers, Ben ☕️
Thanks Ben, I tried to figure out a way to keep the post and beams exposed on the inside and outside but it is to complicated. Have a super week!

It's going good and thank you. I agree the rough sawn board and batten is nice. Most likely it will be stain that I use once it's all done.
Full watch and a thumbs up Paul!
Thank you kindly for full watch and thumbs up Gary, I value your support!

How wide are your board?
6" (15.24 cm) and 7" (17.78 cm) wide boards and the battens are 2" (5.08 cm)wide.
