Leathercraft: Silver Insetted Inlayed Western Cowboy Holster in White Leatherwork ASMR

  • Just playing around with insets / inlays again. This time with some silver sheepskin I picked up from Tandy Leather. In this video I make a leather western cowboy holster with white Angelus paint and silver buckle and hardware. The hardest part about this build? Keeping the white paint clean while making it.

Been making anything and everything out of leather that pops in my head. Though the finished product is great to see, hand carving and embossing is now my true love and passion. Leather is such a great art form. Love watching everyone’s videos still, because for one project, there’s a 100 ways to complete it! Great holster!

It's difficult enough to do leather work with clean edges, but without handling it too much to put scuffs & creases in it is top tier work!

Seriously, good stuff man. One teensy tiny little piece of advice though, getting a little heavy on the ads. Kinda kills the "ASMR" vibe.

If I buy online I buy sides. However, I have two Tandy Leather stores within 15 minutes of me--one being their large headquarters store. So I often end up buying double or single shoulders. Sometimes bends. Just depends on what they have and what I need.

My most-used cutter (the knife I use to cut the initial pattern out of the leather with) is a Pfeil #10 chip carving knife -- technically a woodworking knife -- I have lots of tools that are cross-discipline :). The slightly larger knife I occasionally use is an Al Stohlman trim knife.

I said no leather only please, she then took me in her extremely clean work space and proceeded to start laying out the skins of cows and you can see the knots and hot spots etc as well as the cuts around the legs etc, and then I understood why leather is for Regal pieces, it does not come in rolls!!!!!!
