    Enjoyed watching the craftwork. Subscribed. The challenge these days is there are tons of laws in place to limit “targets from having ways to defend themselves, and the criminals don’t seem to care about having illegal weapons. Or breaking the law otherwise.

    • @CastilloHeritageCrafts
      @CastilloHeritageCrafts  9 місяців тому +3

      Yes, it's an unfortunate side effect of those laws. Bad guys don't care about the laws, so what you oftentimes get is an unarmed good guy who followed the rules and an armed bad guy taking the shirt off their back, or worse. But anyway, thank you very much for subscribing, It's much appreciated. 🙏

    Put a small pocket on the outside to slip in a micro multi tool. Then it validates the tool/utility aspect and would still be useful as a last-resort, improvised flail with an extra metal bit with sharper edges.

    • @CastilloHeritageCrafts
      @CastilloHeritageCrafts  9 місяців тому +2

      Yeah, that's probably the best plan. Add enough features to justify it as a multi-tool. And you "just happened" to use it as a self-defense device.

    I carried something like this for years, mine was carried in one of my pockets, with a heavy cord with a sinker that hung outside the pocket. I never used it, because, IF I sense a problem developing, I retreat, always. If the problem develops too quickly for you to retreat, you are better off not wasting time getting a weapon.
    Maybe I could have used it instead of my fists then the Balmain Slipper, but MOST times I got into fights, it was the other guy trying to sucker-punch and getting countered hard.

    this is considered a slap jack/blackjack so check your local laws as they are illegal to carry/use in many areas, i know they are here in colorado sadly as i already considered it for when i can't carry a firearm. i ended up going with a good strong self defense cane for those situations being a medical device, and being just a strong cane they cannot deny it, of course the hidden blade ones would be a problem though.

    • @CastilloHeritageCrafts
      @CastilloHeritageCrafts  7 місяців тому +2

      Yes, saps and blackjacks are a touchy subject. There are strict laws in place in basically all US states regarding them. In some states, they're illegal to own and carry, and in some, they're legal to own at home but not to carry out in public. I also think some concealed carry licenses cover them. But I'm not 100% sure, so it's always best to check local laws. The cane seems like a nice replacement though, better range of attack, too. Thanks for watching!

    I've got one from the original designer Mean Gene Leather and this is a good design for a self defense tool that you can take anywhere......getting hit with a lot off coins hurts and it can cause serious damage. Also, don't wear it with the coin pouch out, wear it with the handle on the outside off your belt. This way if you do ever have to use it to protect yourself your already holding the handle when you deploy it.

    • @MichaelSisley-fw3xr
      @MichaelSisley-fw3xr 5 місяців тому

      @@jacksonsmiler8028 Absolutely. Defense of oneself is a muti-layered proposition, just as an army plans for layers of defensive capabilities. When traveling, I always pack five rolls of pennies in my luggage. When I get to where I am going, the pennies go in a tough sock and I tie a knot in it. That is a field expedient blackjack. Fits in a back pocket. I'm old enough to be profiled as someone who needs a cane (I do not). Canes get through security and are a fine pugilistic defensive tool AND can help achieve/maintain distance between an attacker and a defender. A high-grade aluminum ball point pen is ALWAYS in my shirt pocket. When and where I can, I always carry a gun and a knife. Lastly, I NEVER wear footwear I cannot climb, run, fight in. Situational awareness and threat assessment is a lifestyle. Some call it paranoia. Paranoia is irrational and involves delusions and is not analyzed.

      Saps and Blackjacks are illegal in several states for a reason. You can very much break bones with this thing, especially when filled to the brim with coins.

    • @MickAlderson
      @MickAlderson 9 місяців тому +1

      If you hit someone with your fist you may do as much damage to your knuckles as to your opponent. But a sap is basically a dead blow hammer. There is little rebound so most of the force goes into the target. You don't hurt yourself, but hurt your target a lot.
      A sap pocket used to be standard on police uniforms. A sap was much like a like a night stick, but stealthy. If a cop was grappling an opponent at close quarters, even a light blow with a sap could end the fight. Problem was, a blackjack or sap is TOO efficient. A strike from a sap can break bones. A strike to the head can very easily kill, even if that wasn't what the cop intended. You had to be VERY good to apply just enough force to stop an opponent, but not too much to kill. Not enough cops were that skilled😅.
      Basically, saps and blackjacks were outlawed (where they are outlawed) because they were too good at what they did. They ARE deadly weapons. If you use one, expect that is the standard that will be applied.

    Fill it with sand would be better. You'll never make it through the metal detectors at sporting events. Not sure if it's legal with sand in it either.

    • @CastilloHeritageCrafts
      @CastilloHeritageCrafts  9 місяців тому

      Yes, sand is good. Metal BBs or buckshot is even better. But the point is to be a coin pouch first and foremost, with the added benefit of helping you in a dire pinch. You're also right about sporting events, airports, and such. It likely won't be allowed in places where even pocket knives are banned. It's also illegal in some US states altogether.
      And thank you for watching! I appreciate it.

    Worthy idea. I'm just not comfortable with the zipper. When you smack somebody, it's going to come from deep - something you don't unleash on a pumpkin. That force will likely pop that zipper.
    Using the same design shape, and less work, maybe don't glue the handle shut. Use that, with a squeeze to open and close, run the coins through the tube. No zipper necessary.

    • @CastilloHeritageCrafts
      @CastilloHeritageCrafts  9 місяців тому +1

      I like that idea. The coins slide through the neck instead of the zipper. For what it's worth, I think the zipper would hold up. But in an emergency situation, you need peace of mind that it would absolutely never bust open.
      My reservation is that it might make it into a better Sap and a slightly worse coin pouch. You'd have to empty the contents into your palm until you find the coins you need, then feed all the unneeded coins back in. With the zipper, you can sift through and pick out your coins. But your design is definitely worth tinkering with. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you very much for watching.

    Some strange thing. I don't know why people wrote they like it. Neither properly working as a purse no as a weapon. The zipper is a weak point. Seams inconvenient to use the small zipper and opening in this exact direction. I'd make it open in opposite direction. As a weapon it'll break with 1st hit. Like having a single charged selfmade pistol.

    • @CastilloHeritageCrafts
      @CastilloHeritageCrafts  6 місяців тому

      You're right about the zipper, I'd definitely switch the opening direction if I ever made it again. It works quite well as a coin purse. The whole thing is really quite resilient. But thank you for the watch and the comment anyway!

    I do believe that in most jurisdictions, state & local, carrying a "sap" is illegal and a knowledgeable cop would quickly determine that was what you had, especially if you had given reason for him to conduct a frisk of your person. "Well, what is this, pray tell?" And with that the cop would begin stacking charges on you. I would say it is unwise to have this hanging from your belt and should be carried in a pocket like a coin-purse would normally be carried. He would probably just examine it, see coins and move on. But dangling from your belt, possibly swinging from it, just might connect the dots for him. Anyway, that's my observation which does not detract from the fact Castillo is an adept leather craftsman.

    • @CastilloHeritageCrafts
      @CastilloHeritageCrafts  8 місяців тому

      Thank you for the thoughtful comment and compliment. And yes, you're right. Even I myself have hesitated to carry it, as an eagle-eyed policeman might recognize it. That being said, pocket, or even cold-weather climates where you have a coat hanging over it most of the time are ideal if someone were to carry this (and of course, check local laws for the legality.) Thanks again for watching!

    Saps, a type of bludgeon, are prohibited under federal law and the laws of every State with which I'm familiar. These devices are categorized as "dangerous instruments". Such weapons are not afforded protection under the Second Amendment because no military force throughout history has customarily used them, thus saps do not qualify as "Arms".
