I always just figured 107 was my favorite Weller but me and a buddy did a Weller blind over new years and our order was: 1. Full Proof; 2. Single (June 23); 3. 12 Year; 4. CYPB; 5. 107; 6. Special Reserve. So who know!
As a guy who doesn’t like Weller that much or so I thought it seems to win every wheated blind I’ve had. By itself I’m not a big fan. It’s floral and I’m not a floral guy but after other wheated bourbons for me it turns into fruit juice. I usually start with something else then go to it.
I feel it's the prices. If Weller 107 was still an attainable shelf bourbon for $50 it would still be great. It's just not a premium whiskey, it's a high middle tier whiskey. I loved Weller Special Reserve and 12, but I preferred a cheaper Maker's Mark Veterans Select far and away over Weller 107. Wheated, higher proof, shelf available, cheaper, more flavor.
you are exactly correct even maybe up to 70 bucks it's very very good but in my area of Colorado a vast wasteland for bourbon Weller 107 is gonna be 200 bucks sorry WT Rare Breed at 50 bucks will suit me. The hype and fomo on Weller is a joke
I’ve tried or owned all 4 of the “more available” Weller bottles, as silly as it is to call them that. Other than FP, which I’ve only ever had as a pick and thought that pick was pretty bad, all the other Weller’s are best in category to me for the very narrow categories that I’d fit them into. OWA is the quintessential $50-70 wheated bourbon at a mid proof point. 12 is the quintessential wheated bourbon at a $60-70 price point that’s low proof, etc etc you get the idea. And because of that, I understand why they’re overrated. When you are marketed well and become what people think of as bourbon, they put you on a pedestal. Having owned an OWA, I’d never pay $100+ for it. But for retail? I’d never skip a chance to buy one! Someone else said overvalued might be a better word, that’s probably right. The market for all Weller bottles except SR is incredibly inflated
Honestly, I completely agree. Weller 12 especially is one of my favorites. When you consider the price they are supposed to be, there is nothing overrated about them.
I prefer Weller 107 over the other Wellers except for Full Proof Store Picks. I also prefer 107 store picks that are NCF as well. Just wish 107 was at its correct price of $50-60 and would be a true shelf product like SR is supposed to be.
Dry January over? A couple days early? Crazy that I recently had this very discussion with a neighbor. We both have been disappointed in the recent 107 release. Not talking store pick here, just standard 107. I remember really enjoying it and now, just blah. Could be that my palate has evolved and I keep enjoying better and better bourbon, but it might just be an inferior batch, who can know? Cheers DB
No this is an old one. I am currently super sick so dry January might be over late lol. Interesting thought. I hadn't considered that this could be a newer bottle and they have lost some quality.
I’ll be honest, weller 107 has never been my cup of tea. Love weller 12, but I could do without 107. I always get a harsh finish with it for whatever reason, just my palette.
We've collected some really good wheaters over the last few years. I really want to do a battle Royale like you do at home. I just need to make sure to have the next few days off 😂. Cheers! P.S. I preder my Weller 12 2023 bottles to my Jack 12 batch 2 and Knob 12. I don't know what to say I like wheaters 🤷♂️.
It's good whiskey but the market needs a correction, it's not overrated but overvalued. What's in the bottle is worth $50-60 tops.
@@BigBadJerryRogers definitely agree. It SHOULD lose to a Maker's pick that costs $20 more.

Interesting, that's a good blind!
Just go with Larceny barrel proof if you want a better value
Would you pay $190 for a Weller 107? When you can get a Blantons straight from the barrel for the same price
🎉🎉🎉

@@roscoepcoltrane23 I 100% get this. Nearly all buffalo trace products blind really well if you compare them to similar items.
I just killed a 107 tonight. I keep thinking about Blanton's. Every sip was this is Blanton's. My taste is not as deep as these guys but Blanton's.

@@AppalachainGoldWhiskey great stuff if you find em at retail. That is basically weller in a nutshell.

A good OWA store pick is 🔥

Weller 107 literally smells and tastes like mildew to me. I like wheaters, but if I never had weller 107 again, it would be too soon.
Unpopular opinion, but CYPB is actually my favorite Weller product. Throughout the bourbon journey though, Weller products all continue to be "fine".

I have one. Overpaid when I first started my Bourbon journey last year. IMHO, it's just OK and definitely overpriced by taters. SRP or bust.
Yes indeed, esp compared to the Weller full proof, OWA is good just nothing special IMHO lots of better bottles out there..
@@lyodbraun agreed.
No.
How dare you sully weller 107s name!
