- Beatrice's character song 「Chain」
from Umineko no Naku Koro ni TV anime
sung by Sayaka Ohara as Beatrice
translated and subtitled by shiki1xk
Just a note, I am not too good at translating yet. Sorry if you spot any error.
"When the Seagulls Cry" references the morning when the storm is over, and they can all leave the island safety... a moment all the characters pray for as they're being murdered.
And the reason for that is that seagulls cry on clear mornings, but not during storms.
it's a reference from "and then there were none"
I found something. It can be separate into Sea and Cat. The whole event is cat in the box. Cut off from reality by sea.
@@null5573 That is really one of the best ideas i ve read. It got to be cannon

Day is 4th october 2021, another anniversary dug out buried memories. Riposa in pace, Beatrice!
cant help but to admire Sayaka Ohara, voice actor for both epic witches; Beatrice and Yuuko. this is just soooo epic T^T
This song really tell us about beatrice and her feelings.
Imagine a dbz fanboy sees this in their recommendations and they see your name lol
Beatrice probably sang this on her last day while running
Also dont forget akiko shikatas katakoi. Thats also how yasu's felt
nice name btw

Beatrice is alive as she will ever be.
It's been a while since I've read Umineko manga and I have a few questions please. Why did Beatrice murder Battler's family over and over to get him to remember instead of just telling him? Why did he forgive her so easily instead of wanting to help Bernkastel and Erika destroy her? And do you recommend me rereading the Manga or the visual novel?
Eve
To answer that last part: the VN of course! Can’t listen to the outstanding soundtrack through manga after all.
@@RainBerry46 Alright this is months old but I'll answer. Be warned: there be spoilers ahead if you want to reread the series with a fresh perspective.
There are multiple reasons why Beatrice didn't want to directly tell Battler about who she was. The first is that Beatrice in reality didn't actually kill anyone. All the games we see are hypothetical murder scenarios written by Beatrice (and she is indeed guilty of attempted murder at the very least and her action also indirectly instigated the events that caused the actual murders) but in the real world, she never killed anyone. However, she wants to scapegoat herself so that none of the family would be blamed and in particular Battler wouldn't have to blame his family so she presented herself as a heartless murderer. In addition, it was partially guilt to the aforementioned instigation of the actual killings. She to some degree believed that she deserved punishment in her role and that her punishment was Battler, the only person to have ever unconditionally loved and understood her and tried to save her, forgetting her entire existence and hating her (this is why she' so willing to concede to his faulty logic in EP4, she believes that if she can't get him to love her, then she'll get him to acknowledge her by hating her). Finally, there's the tragic fact that Beatrice at heart is a fatalist, something she doesn't grow out of until EP6 (and since that is "another" Beatrice, you could argue she never truly grows out of it as shown by Clair). She believes that if Battler doesn't solve the riddle of Rokkenjima, that he was "destined" not to. This, tied with her crippling self esteem issues leads her to conclude that if Battler fails that she doesn't deserve his love and that she deserves to die (which is why she fades in EP5). These reasons combined with the fact that she feared that Battler would hate her if he was simply told the truth and also wanted him to truly understand her and love her for who she is means that simply telling him the truth was not an option. As Virgilia states in EP5: it's comparable to a girl teasing her crush because she's to afraid of rejection (also I feel the need to emphasize this fact because this is vital: from the perspective of Beatrice and Battler the games are just fiction. In reality Beatrice was innocent of murder).
For the second question. He forgave her because he remembered everything including his promise to her and their last moments together. That moment where he uncovers every mystery, he also uncovers her motives and sympathizes with her, especially his own role in not understanding her. You also have to remember, and again, I can't emphasize this enough, the real Beatrice never killed anyone except herself. It's much more easier to forgive her when you realize that she was just a sad frustrated and lonely girl venting out her frustrations at fictional versions of her family. Finally there's the fact that after everything, he really does love her. EP3-5 I think gives them good chemistry and the revelation that they are actually childhood friends that Battler does still seem to care for emphasizes this. In EP5 he's disgusted by Erika and Bernkastel because they see Beatrice's game and thus Beatrice herself as nothing but entertainment (a sick reflection of the real world attitudes towards the Rokkenjima massacres) whereas Battler legitimately wants to understand her and thus legitimately wants to know the full truth of what happened instead of just the convenient partial truth that "Beatrice was fake and was guilty". In the real world, she saved his life and they were able to spend a final day together happy before they both died. Basically, the reason he forgives her is because he always legitimately wanted to understand her perspective and upon realizing the whole truth is able to sympathize and forgive her while he hates Erika and Bernkastel because they don't treat Beatrice with any respect. Basically Battler is more interested in figuring out why exactly the tragedy happened than pursing vengance.
Finally, I would recommend reading the VN because it has great music and atmosphere. Specifically I would recommend the PS3 sprites. However the novel is rather long (about twice as long as War and Peace in pure text) and unfortunately not everyone has the time for that. In which case the manga is actually a great adaption. It also explains some stuff and makes certain themes much clearer (the themes were present in the original but are steeped in metaphor and figurative language which makes it so that finding out the true message of the work requires some analysis).

@@alteriasaber same!! even 500 years in the future, if i were to somehow be alive, beatrice, and all of umineko for that matter, will always be in my heart forever. it’s so emotional for me, but it’s also equally as dazzling🥹🥰 i recommend anybody read it, because it changed my, and likely thousands of peoples lives forever. for a manga to change a life really means something divinely special to me💖💞 there are simply no words to describe how incredible this manga is to change someone’s life, especially me with depression, and it has really improved my life after reading it!🥰i love you beatrice!
I cannot quench your thirst
Because even if you yearn for the truth, you refuse to believe in it.
I cannot quench your thirst
Because no such truth exists that you are in anticipation for.
But I still want to quench your thirst.
Because I am the one that put you into the desert.
That's awesome.
+Rosa Janai it's the poem by "Frederica Bernkastel" for Watanagashi-hen in the Higurashi VN
+thatwasafail Thanks!
Tartar Another fitting one for Umineko:
"Do you know what your sin is?
It isn't because you listened to the serpant.
Do you know what your sin is?
It isn't because you ate the forbidden fruit.
You still don't know what your sin is?
Then, that itself is your sin."
That's nothing compared to the first one: "Don't be sad. I'll forgive you even if the world doesn't forgive you. Don't be sad. I'll forgive you even if you don't forgive the world. So please tell me, what will it take for you to forgive me?"

Best character song lyrics that I know of.
It's impressive that she sing and do that terrifying cackle
Many a year later and this still be slappin
At first I thought her voice was too quiet, but then I realized that it's like magic: without love, it cannot be seen or heard.

Man, this song always makes me weep silently ;~;. Sayaka Ohara's voice is beautiful!
umineko is da best.... who here agrees with me?
For me Higurashi does better with the horror but Umineko mistery is better but as they are in the same universe When they Cry is the best
With Danganronpa
Umineko is objectively one of the best stories ever.
Yep, mostly if you read the manga
but they don't finish it on anime unlike Higurashi do
@Cunning Linguist to be fair, the umineko anime is way worse than higurashi's, if it was what he refered to

***** seagulls is the title to this anime as everyone stuck on the island wants to get off the island as soon as possible, but that will only happen when the typhoon passes and whenever the typhoon passes they will know of it whenever the seagulls cry as seagulls will return to the show by then. Quite twisted but a very interesting title. Nonetheless the visual novel is....... AWESOME.
No. The title is "Umineko no Naku Koro ni". Think North American title is "Umineko When They Cry". The title translated means "When the Seagulls Cry"
This song really fits Beatrice's character. Wonderful!
I think you did a great job on the translation. Thank you for it!!
I love this song... Oh, Beato.. ;___;
Sayaka definitely was good as I think she displayed the widest range of emotions compared to the rest of the characters but Eva-Beatrice was good too, though the whole "I'm an evil little brat" thing got old really quick.
Rereading Umineko rn and this is stuck in my head
After finishing ep7, (and figuring out almost everything), you'll find this song has an extra layer of depth behind it. :D
Wonder if Ryukishi wrote these lyrics.
Although it’s likely coincidence, I like how Ohara’s lower register is used here, and with lines like “I want you to accept me” I definitely think whoever wrote this knew of the later arcs.
Yeah, to realice she was in the end a lost girl arriving always too late for everything is something you cant really overcome that easily.

Wow! Beato is an awesome singer! :D
Well that's probably because Beatrice isn't really a witch. I mean Ange points that out in the anime and in her theme song, Beatrice even says so when she says "I want to become a true witch". This makes sense if you think about as Beatrice is more a less an illusion created by Yasu who is more or less confused over their identity and whatnot.

After listening to most of the OST for the anime, I've decided... I'll give this show a go someday soon. The soundtrack is just so good...! I'm aware of how the anime is almost nothing compared to the VN...but it's something right!
+Constant Dietz Argh... Haha, maybe you're right. You probably are right that I should reconsider. I'll forever be enamored by the soundtrack then, that's alright with me !
Dude, Higurashi was AMAZING. It's a top 5 anime for me. Clannad is my favorite anime (hence Fuko being my profile picture!). But yes, the show is brilliant and it is an amazing feeling to be able to say that about a show that, on the surface, appears to be about mindless killing!
+HopeEsleim1101 why don't you read the umineko VNs, though, instead of 'forever being enamored by the soundtrack'. they're amazing even if you don't generally like VNs. the mangas aren't complete and you can find the visual novels on youtube, even though they're very long

I love Beatrice!
Sayaka Ohara is that good ladies name
she also voices telestina in to aru kagaku no railgun while rina satou, voice actor of ange also voices mikoto :3
I also thought VNs were too long, but if it's Umineko I don't mind it being long at all. :D Besides, Umineko taught and inspired me a lot!
I just love this song! This and Entreat are my favorite Character songs
i always imagined tht beatrice's character song would be daughter of evil
a so touching melody.....
i love this song and her voice. i listend to this song a hundreth time i think and only because i watched few episodes this morning of fairy tail, HEY i realized that she is also voicing erza scarlet. awesome! ^w^
3:00 just makes me melt.
Waaah! I really like Beato's character :3 she has a particular temper, she has become my favourite character. (classification: 1)Beato 2)Ichihara Yuuko from XxXHOLiC 3)Izumi curtis from FMA). *^* I simply love this theme!
I think it has something to do with what Jessica told Kanon - that people can make a whole new part of themself on the inside - a part they like and can live their lives out that way. However, nearly all the people on the island are more or less stuck in the roles they're in: whether it be maid or master and so are restricted in their behavior and emotional displays.
Beatrice on the other hand is perhaps the most free character in the series and so can act however she wants.
Its beautiful
The final part made me cry...
Ahhh. That you would have to play the novels until the end to know.
3:14 that picture made me cry a little...

@llRambardll The witch goal is it actually to make the mistery part to admit that, thus being able to say "witches killed them with magic" which leads to "Witched do exist"
awesome username dude, just don't let Lambdadelta find you.
I love this song *--* 3
@llRambardll There's no maybe about it. It's been stated in red that Beatrice (and her human counterpart) are not killers, but want Battler to find who did. Her true magic of Endless is actually to take any result she receives and treat it as what she wanted all along, making her difficult to read because she never makes the best move she can.
RIP replay button.
I NEED THE PICTURES
Beatrice is love.
@ladybooinator a story about young man, Battler who fight againts the logic of a witch named Beatrice. Battler refused to believe of the existence of magic, while he and his entire family were killed for numerous times. Basically, this is a magnificent story about reverse psychology and mind twist. Not to mention that the characters themselves have many interesting backstory and personality. Seriously, you won't regret playing this game. And please don't judge the quality based on the anime.
that was beautiful....that's it battler! get your butt in here and give beato a hug
I'm not gonna lie I love it :D I love Beato's laugh too :P
Umineko's end is Episode 6. With the end of the story of Beatrice & Battler.
The opening is so manly
originally I think it was because he denied the existance of witches so she challenged him in a battle so she could make sure Battler surrendered and accepted the existance of witches so her magic could work once again and she would be fully revived
Why do the last few notes sound like Scarborough Fair? **remembers that Scarborough Fair is about a man telling a woman to do several impossible things to win his love** O_O **cries**
@LinsAnime1 The anime only consisted the first arc (ep1-ep4) of the whole story. So, it's no wonder that the ending of the anime was like a cliffhanger. If you really want to play this game, there is an english patch. And, you can find the manga translation in many manga sites. I hope this information can help many people who wish to know. I apologize for my inconvenient style of explaining. Thank you.
why are people so surprised that Beato's voice actress is the same one that voiced Erza? Don't people realize that in order to make a living, a voice actor has to voice more than one character?
Not really, people are surprised as how a person can voice so many characters.
