Norbit Movie Description:
Mild-mannered Norbit (Eddie Murphy) has always had it rough, since the day he was left abandoned at a combination Chinese restaurant and orphanage. Recently forced to marry the shrewish glutton Rasputia, he is at wit's end. Then his childhood sweetheart, Kate (Thandie Newton), moves back to town, and he tries to figure out a way back to his true love.
Norbit is a 2007 American comedy film, directed by Brian Robbins, and co-written by, co-produced by, and starring Eddie Murphy. The film co-stars Thandie Newton, Terry Crews, Cuba Gooding Jr., Eddie Griffin, Katt Williams, Marlon Wayans, and Charlie Murphy. It was released by DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures on February 9, 2007. Eddie Murphy portrays multiple roles including the eponymous Norbit and his abusive obese wife Rasputia; regretting ever having married her, Norbit decides he has had enough of her behavior at about the same time that his childhood sweetheart Kate returns to his life with plans for the orphanage where Norbit and Kate grew up. Norbit risks everything to be with her, but must also contend with Rasputia who has an agenda of her own.
The film was a box office success; it grossed $159 million worldwide against a production budget of $60 million. It was negatively received by critics, and was nominated for eight Golden Raspberry Awards, as well as nominated for the Academy Award for Best Makeup.

I always thought of this as a modern fairytale. Norbit is so downtrodden and abused, he might be worse off than Cinderella.
Edit: I never had a problem with Rasputia (I know her looks are a part of the joke) my problem is her bad ATTITUDE. She was abusive and manipulative. If she had treated Norbit a little better he would have been faithful and loyal, like a true Hufflepuff.
That’s what I was thinking. Basically this movie is about a man in an abusive relationship and how a lot of people around genuinely care about him and want him to make it out of the relationship with a happy ending. Norbit is a lot like Cinderella in many ways too.
With a little Forest Gump sprinkled in.

Is this Eddie Murphy's best movie...no. However, he is pure comedic genius, honestly. The way he is able to portray multiple characters and manage to actually give them their own personality and make it real is a true talent. This movie will always be hilarious in my book. I come back to it every now and again. I was excited to see you do a reaction to it.
Then again, it was the movie that probably was the reason he never got his Oscar for Dreamgirls....

I can’t believe ppl think Norbit was his worst movie. Funniest movie of all time. It always has me in tears 😭. My favorite parts are Wong’s best man speech, the puppet show, the dance class, Rasputia watching Maury, the wedding scene, a lot more there’s just too many to list. 😂 I give this comedy an A+

People hated on this movie? I'm from the UK, we loved it over here. Maybe I was too young, my whole generation loved this movie, I was only 10 when the movie came out but growing up, it was seen an instant classic.
The part when she knocks the speaker down on Norbit will never not be funny “oh it’s ya birthday huh?” 🤣
Fun fact: Eddie Murphy is known as somewhat of a prankster occasionally on certain movies, right?? Well Eddie Griffin, tells a story how he was on set and waiting to be called for one of his scenes. He remembers seeing an elderly Asian dude sit down to catch his breath and they struck up a conversation. Griffin says they sat there and conversed for over 20 minutes until he heard them call "Mr. Murphy we're ready for your scene today." Over the P.A. system. Then the old Asian dude gets up and practically runs down to the set and Eddie Griffin was like DAMN!!!! That was Eddie Murphy the whole time and he never knew. lol. for more that 20-25 minutes he stayed in character, just playing with people.

I had this movie on DVD and in the extras Eddie said her got the a idea from a story he heard (i can't remember if they saw it in a video or on the news or something) about a man who was getting abused by his wife and he didn't think it was funny but the women around him when he heard about it were laughing so he made it in to a movie.
It's kinda messed up how men and women laugh at a man being abused but when it's a woman getting abused it should immediately be corrected. Honestly both are equally bad and if the relationship was the other way around, it wouldn't be funny. But the humour in it is still good nonetheless
The movie made be bad, but it is still the funniest movie I've ever laughed at. Eddie Murphy is doing three characters, Rasputia being so funny, Terry Crews is still tough and still cracked me up and hilarious moments of all time

There was a lot of stuff in this film that I missed when I first watched this as a kid. Its even more funnier now 18 years later later.
It also hits when you understand the plot of a man looking to escape from an toxic relationship. A lot of people are in toxic relationships and are hesitant to leave for various reasons. This movie in particular, the message is overshadowed by the comedic tone of the film, and looking back on it now, that’s a genius move.
Norbit getting thrown through the window was to me probably the funniest scene from the film. Eddie Murphy knows how to get a chuckle out of you, whether the film is good or bad.
I'm a huge Eddie Murphy fan. Harlem Nights/Life are my favorites closely followed by Dolomite Is My Name. But Norbit is up there in my favorite comedies to watch. Eddie is amazing at bringing together an all-star cast and squeezing the best out of them. Also please review any or all of the movies previously mentioned.
My favourite line is either "SAY TUESDAY AGAIN AND YOU AIN'T GONNA SEE WEDNESDAY!", "I wanna be a ho, how do I apply?" or Norbit's "LADIES!" line in the church for no reason, just like hearing it.
