Oh I want to thank you for making this video, as a complete newbie to the router it is so confusing and a little intimidating when I open the big case of router bits my wife bought me . This video helps out SO SO SO MUCH. JUST A BIG THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE.
I just finished building the handrail on my deck ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z and used this great little router to clean up the top rail before the final sanding and stain. It was light weight but packed lots of power. Either size battery didn't seem to make it top heavy and I'm a 64 yr old women so I really appreciated how easy it was to use...................... CORDLESS only way to go !!
Excellent video, youv'e sold me on a router, must get one. Also a pleasure to watch, no annoying pop up adds, like so many people greedy for more money above what they get from subscribers. Well done. 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Thanks. Routers are so versatile. First time I used one it felt a bit scary but I use them on every project now. It’s surprising how routering a nice roundover on the edge of a piece of wood can make it look so much more professional 😊
Thank you Dear Friend you have solve problems and today you have complet my very old wish, This is your good idea for those who want to know and work with accuracy in wood working, Once again thank you
I decided to buy this set after watching your video, and talking to Trend Tech Support, and it arrived today. As you say, not that great in the foam holders , but glad you mentioned they did the job and of reasonable quality , I was going to buy a much smaller set, and buy what I needed later, BUT at less then £2 a bit, i didn't see how I could go wrong. Most videos of "must have Bits" seem to mention the bits in this Kit , with the exception of a rebate bit , which I should get by using the straight cutters for now, and , if needed will get a rebate with various sized bearings
Yeah that foam isn’t great which is a shame because the box is great. But other than that I find they’re great cutters. I also tend to buy the 1/4” set too and just buy the odd one or two specialist cutters I may need at times.
Great video and very helpful, you were taking a fair bit away with each pass there which is good. What’s even better is they work out at less than £2 each! I bought a very cheap generic 6 piece set for my big router and then built up from there, for my palm router I bought a 19 piece set which has worked out to be far better. If I was buying routers for my table again I think I’d start with something like this.
Yeah it’s a great set. Actually using it now to make a coaster 😂. Like you say...works out around a couple of quid for a bit which really is nothing. It’s rare I buy individual bits as I mostly use roundovers and luckily kits like this have several. 👍
Keep in mind that out of the 35 bits in this set there are at least 25 that you’re not likely to ever use or at least very infrequently use. Better off to buy a smaller more basic set and add individual specialty bits as needed.
Thanks Martin, always nice to know the videos are a help to others. I use a router pretty much every day...and there was one or two cutters in there that I'd not heard of before, so it was definitely worth while testing them all out :)
It’s personal preference I guess but for me they are well worth the money because it works out very little cost per router bit and I use nearly all of them in my work. 👍
It’s a good little set. I’ve got a couple of different Trend sets and the cutters do a good job. I think for the price of the sets you can’t go far wrong.
Hi I a question I have a Craftsman Router it came with I guess u would call them a two wing cause they only have two sides and the color of them are black if that is any help I am actually learning about Routing the case did not come with any bearings also it came with two black guide like plates I don't know any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Hi. Difficult to say really without a picture as I’m not familiar with the craftsman. I’ve another video called cutting a hole with a router...maybe worth taking a look and see if anything I use there is what you’re describing?
They aren't the top of the range cutters that Trend do, but im using these on a day to day basis and ive found no issues with them what so ever. Certainly for what im doing they are more than adequate :)
I too purchased the Trend router bits. However my very first time using the 1/4" straight bit..IT BROKE. The 1/2" shaft is fine but now the cutter part is maybe 1/4" in length. Worthless. Guess one gets what they pay for. Live and learn.
Id say definitely worth contacting Trend if there's an issue. I'll admit, I haven't had any break in the years I've used them, but I did once have a CNC bit break and Trend sent me a new one and I sent the damaged one back so they could check it :-)
@@Smugwood I have contacted Trend on their website which it appears is registered In the U.K. I will simply wait to see if anyone does in fact reply to my concern. In the mean time, I ordered a similar bit from Freud. Certainly it cost more and my expectation is that it will not break. But, expectations are little more than premeditated resentments. I hope Trend replies favorably. As I mentioned in my notice to Trend, the other 34 bits still have the protective coating/plastic film covering each one. I appreciate your reply.
@@jamessmetana6405 No worries. A lot of people commenting on here think I work for or endorse Trend but I just used the set to demo each bit in use. But I do use the bits a lot and so far have good use out of pretty much the entire set with no issues. So it’s certainly worth you contacting them just incase there was an issue or fault with the cutter. I’d like to hope they’ll reply. 👍
@@Smugwood I contacted Trend-USA and sent photos as well as an explanation of my issue to their technical department. I will wait for their reply and keep you posted. I did finish my project utilizing the 1/2" straight bit by relocating the Milescraft Circular jig to accommodate the variance in cutter diameter. I will admit that router bit worked flawlessly. Stay tuned for any further updates.
UPDATE. December 8, 2020. I received an email today that Trend is sending a replacement bit for the one that broke. The company obviously cherishes their reputation and stands behind their guarantee. Indeed. a very decent purchase and a very competitive price. I am simply a hobbyist...not a professional. As a retired pharmacist, I realize the importance of your word being valued. And being true to your word.
Im not sure as I bought mine online a while back. But Im pretty sure the kits will be on the major online retailers/tool stores etc. Failing that, Trend Tools will be able to confirm what stores should stock them.
very good video, my congratulations. I would like you to help me with a question: I want to know if you make or can recommend who can manufacture custom router bits according to my product draws.
Sort of an insult that they want $240 here in the US for this set. About 10 years ago, I got a similarly finished chinese bit set for about a dollar a bit, with 70 bits in it. 1/2 inch shank, and surprisingly, all of them have been fine. I'm sure if I busted out the micrometer, I could find that they're not as accurately made as freud, but a lot of them are perfectly fine for a one-off cut that you might never make again. Trend seems to specialize in overcharging for relabeled generic chinese stuff these days. That's my opinion from what I've seen, of course (like $150 import "diamond plate kits", etc). And then diversify into other nonsense like tiny bottles of cutting fluid.
To be honest, I don't have much use experience of other cutters...There is another company I use for some of the cutters Trend dont produce, but generally Im a fan of Trend cutters and Trend products. Ive seen quite a lot cheaper alternative cutters fail within minutes and some bent on first use...so I tend to stick with Trend for that reason. There definitely are cheaper cutters out there and some will no doubt be ok...but I feel spending a little on quality tends to give you piece of mind. One big decider for me though was I did have an issue with one of the Trend cutters I purchased and called them up with a concern. They had me return the cutter so they could check it out and kindly sent me 3 in its place which all seem to be spot on... I guess the bottom line is...everyone has their favourites and for a variety of reasons. :-)

The box they are stored in is also fine...quite sturdy actually. However, the bits themselves are held in foam inserts and the foam inserts could possibly be fixed in better.
