Considering Cole was once a spirit before he became Cole, that's complicated because yes, he became the Cole that once was, but was he ever truly born? I've only ever played this game, and none of the others of the series, so I am not familiar with how spirits come to be. Is there even anyone in that world that truly understands the Fade well enough to know how its inhabitants exist? I personally view the friendship as brotherly.
@@ExelArts Isabella was actually one of the more funnier companions to ever get released in DA. Way more developed than zevran, and much more tamed than sera. Fenris actually was really done well also, and his character really shines when you choose to understand him instead of babying him. Varic best companion for da2. Anders.. never liked him. Merril, annoying with the apologies. Carver to much of an asshole, and bethany was really whiney and always complained about what they were doing because she could have been caught. Sebastian never had, and aveline played her role well, the hard bitch who eventually finds love and clams down.
Dragon Age 2 wasn't perfect (far from it) but it gave us Varric who is one if my favorite Dragon Age characters. I hope that he see him side by side with Hawke again in the future. Bioware did a great job portraying their friendship. Reminds me of Maleshep and Garrus.

The actor that played Cole I guess really took the time to practice his voice to become that way, in Jaws of Hakkon I’m guessing his voice cracks or something and you can sorta hear his real voice. But yeah his voice actor is also an English actor, so that might be part of it.

He's closest you can get to Batman in Dragon Age universe. And I don't think he's that interested in romance with you.

I mean, he tried to destroy the world and rip open the fade, only to have the shit hit the fan and have the Anchor stuck to the Inquisitor, who he then use to clean up the mess he made, then when the orb he wanted was destroyed, he abandons the Inquisition (with some of the best equipment I had in my first playthrough since I used him in the final fight), only to later encounter the Inquisitor again and reveal he's Fen'harel and intends to destroy the Veil, then proceeds to STEAL THE INQUISITOR'S FUCKING HAND then flee.

He woke up only year before the Inquisition starts, after sleeping for roughly 5000 years?, and saw that the world he once lived in, of spirits and magic flowing around immortal elves, spells that were cast for millenia, all of it is gone, elves are still mostly enslaved, and the Dalish who hold onto any memories of the ancient elvhen, distorted the history in a way that paint him as their greatest adversary. His first instinct was to erase it and go back, and as such he wanted to immediately tear the veil - whom he created in the first place. Do you remember the quest when you recruit the mages, the one with Alexius? You go forth in time, to see the world such a shitty place, the Inquisitor doesn't even consider staying and fixing it, or moving on - the priority is to go back to what was. People that we see aren't really real, right, we can all just erase it as if it never happened, go back. That's exactly a mindset Solas is in at the start of the game. If he befriends the Inquisitor, he starts realizing that the people are real, beautiful, strong and worthy - and if he falls in love with Lavellan he realizes it even earlier - "You change... everything.". Now he is even more full of regrets, but as he says - he needs to walk a path he wouldn't wish on his worst enemy. He doesn't want to do this. But he feels bound by duty, because he is the only one who can reverse it all, and bring back his people. But deep down I think he hopes the Inquisitor will stop him - why else would he tell all of this? Not very smart. "I would treasure the chance to be wrong again, my friend." Isabella isn't particularly unique though. She and Zevran from Origins, are basically just the generic "exotic" minority stereotype. Overly sexual ethnic characters that aren't entirely trustworthy. It's a very common trope.

ExelArts thought every character in DA2 was fantastic actually. A lot wrong with the game but characterisation certainly wasn't one of the problems.

He woke up only year before the Inquisition starts, after sleeping for roughly 5000 years?, and saw that the world he once lived in, of spirits and magic flowing around immortal elves, spells that were cast for millenia, all of it is gone, elves are still mostly enslaved, and the Dalish who hold onto any memories of the ancient elvhen, distorted the history in a way that paint him as their greatest adversary. His first instinct was to erase it and go back, and as such he wanted to immediately tear the veil - whom he created in the first place. Do you remember the quest when you recruit the mages, the one with Alexius? You go forth in time, to see the world such a shitty place, the Inquisitor doesn't even consider staying and fixing it, or moving on - the priority is to go back to what was. People that we see aren't really real, right, we can all just erase it as if it never happened, go back.
That's exactly a mindset Solas is in at the start of the game. If he befriends the Inquisitor, he starts realizing that the people are real, beautiful, strong and worthy - and if he falls in love with Lavellan he realizes it even earlier - "You change... everything.". Now he is even more full of regrets, but as he says - he needs to walk a path he wouldn't wish on his worst enemy. He doesn't want to do this. But he feels bound by duty, because he is the only one who can reverse it all, and bring back his people. But deep down I think he hopes the Inquisitor will stop him - why else would he tell all of this? Not very smart. "I would treasure the chance to be wrong again, my friend."

Isabella isn't particularly unique though. She and Zevran from Origins, are basically just the generic "exotic" minority stereotype. Overly sexual ethnic characters that aren't entirely trustworthy. It's a very common trope.
