The SSD enclosure is 140 dollars though which makes it almost 400 usd for an SSD + enclosure..

Clear enunciation. Easy explanation. Proper pace. No elaborate intros, straight to the point. A tech video well done. 👍

All you need is a decent PCIe Gen 3 SSD and a Thunderbolt 3 external enclusure to match the NVMe physical format. Getting a Gen 4 NVMe will not speed transfer speeds up in this situation. Thunderbolt and USB-C share the same socket on the Mac, but it is the Thunderbolt part of the socket that will give you the best speed, so the external enclosure needs to at least support Thunderbolt 3. Buy a reputable brand. A USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 external enclosure is slower, especially on a Mac.
Talking about the USB-C 3.1 (Gen 2, not Gen 1 and USB-C, not USB-A) ports (up to 10Gb/s according to Apple) on the M1 and M2 Macs. They are slower then the same ports on the Intel Macs and even similar ports on PCs. Instead of getting maybe 800Gb/s data transfer, you will only get real-world 400-500 Gb/s. There is no indication that Apple intend to correct this as most Apple customers do not make a fuss about it.
PCIe Gen 7 is set to launch in 2025 and probably hit shelves around 2027.

    Great video! thanks
Wondering if I can save app directly to the SSD instead of using internal space on my mac? My adobe softwares are getting quite heavy on my mac.

Great video. As others have said - clear and concise. I'm about to buy a new M2 mini and I think I'll get the 512 gb and then do as you suggest.

Super Useful and Objective review! I can suggest the combination between Acasis enclosure and Samsung 980 Pro - really good speed and price ratio!

Apple have got far too greedy when it comes to upgrade costs. They'd still be making a small fortune if they halved both memory and SSD upgrade costs, but would probably find more people actually wanted to give them money to upgrade at point of purchase.

Totally agree. They keep the base prices good, but when you configure it to your needs, the price very quickly escalates

Should've gone with a cheaper ssd as your enclosure is bottle necking for sure. 2500 mbps rated would've been fine.
