BIG yes to the Fileserver-HowTo!
YES!!!!
Yes plz!!
Yes please
Absolutely! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Yes I need that !
Yes, I’m interested in more Mac Mini videos.
Yes I’m interested in the Mac Mini videos.
Same
Great video to the point, thank you for not stretching the content farther than it needed to be. I just wanted to point out that the speeds are actually ~1500 Megabytes, not megabits. Keep up the great work!
We are on the same wave length. Planning this for my Mac mini once it gets here.
Never heard someone say "archive" the way you do. Shocked.
This is the most astounding and interesting video that I have watched . Wow cristopher you are awesome . Now day I started liking your video
minuto 2.14. quitele el plastico al disipador que esta pegado en la tapa friend
Yes. I am looking forward to experience from combination Mac mini - iPad Pro. When?
Just got myself a 2014 Mac Mini with a 500GB spinning drive that I plan to replace for a Samsung 1TB SSD that I have laying around. I’m very much interested in any advice on how you set up your file server. BTW, I plan to use it as a Print server as well, using Airprint
I would love to see all of your Mac Mini videos - will watch them all! Cheers, and thank you 😊
Ordered my NVME 5 mins after watching this video. Can't wait for the Fileserver videos 😀👍🏾
Mac mini-please keep doing it
Your videos are so interesting especially these M1 ones
Look at you doing how-tos. Good video like always Chris.
Thanks dad! :)
Thanks so much for this excellent and helpful video!
Yes, please, make videos on anything about data management/storage/servers! Greetings from Europe
Yes, I'm interested especially the use of the apple server software if that is what you are going to use.
Yes please to more mac-mini vids, i was thinking of getting one to be the companion in a very similar way to my iPad and home as you have and would love to see how you approach it
Super interested in Mac Mini vids !
Yes to all mentioned videos!
Yes more Mac Mini content. I use a 2013 MPB as my workstation and iPad for on the go. I want to pick up a Mac Mini. Would love to see more integration between these 2 devices.
Probably naive question ... what about apps that force 'installation on system disc?" I could live with slightly reduced performance if I could offload some big apps.
Count me in for FileServer setup. I'm thinking about leaving my MacBook Pro, to get to your setup with iPad, Mac mini, ...
Ok I plead ignorance. Can I hook up my External Western Digital EasyStore 8TB to this Mac Mini??
Chris, liked the video. I’m very interested in details for setting up M1 Mac Mini as a server- as you referenced in the video. Can you help on that?
I am really thinking about using a Mac mini as a travel computer with my iPad Pro? I’m not sure if that will work? I need something to do zoom and lectures iPad Pro isn’t cutting it
Please, do videos about all the things you suggested!!! I love your videos, they are so informative and soothing. Love your content!
File-server, automations-server, m1 mac mini modifications, i would be up for all of it!
I'm thinking of getting a Mac Mini M1 too.
Hi Chris just bought a old one (2014) out of a charity shop to help my local charities looking for some great ideas for it’s use case it has a ssd already installed and is running Mac OS Monterey
Would love more videos about your M1 Mac Mini!
Right now an important issue of M1 mac mini is RAM. I know it's already very fast with 16gb of ram. My point is, some programs eventually requires much larger ram, not for speed but for capacity. E.g. running a virtual machine, running a large database software, running simulation software. My understanding is that, when M1 mac runs out of memory, it will use SSD as virtual memory.
I'm also interested in more Mac Mini videos. Thank you
Your videos are always helpful. Thank you
i would love to see more mac videos. love your channel
Yes please do the server videos!! Great content! 👍🏼👌🏼
Nicely produced. Keep the Mac Mini videos coming!
thanks for the vid. my M1 is causing headaches because the software i use for audio plus other files that i can't move off my HD are causing me to be always within 40g of 'full'...downloading and installing monterey today and that's an additional 13g, thus will this drive allow me to also run software from the drive unlike my storage hard disks....(an area of computing that i'm not familiar with, but have to get to grips with)
I would be very interested in watching a video on you making it into a file server
Hey Chris, having used these external NVMe enclosures in the past, perhaps you did it off camera, but it looked like you didn't take the tape off the thermal grease before reassembling the enclosure. Wanted to mention it just in case, we don't want the drive to overheat and die.
It’s off, in fact I don’t think it ever shipped with any tap. I don’t recall ever taking it off. I just double checked it though.
@@ChrisLawley Always good to double check, right? I've seen systems where someone did not properly install the drive/thermal tape...it never ends well!
Similar I’ve seen thousands of dollars go up in smoke because someone didn’t install the CPU heat sink correctly.
I'd be interested in some Mac mini + monitor photo/video workstation setup.
1m looking to get a Mac mini to compliment my ipad ethos, love your videos keep up the good work!
Would like to see your setup on file server and any other tips/tricks with Mac Mini m1. Even using the external nvme storage solution as the main storage drive and the internal for just apps and system files. Not completely 100% sure what best route to go would be
Could you do more videos (including about server) please.
You can get a 10Gbps Ethernet port on it. I haven't priced any lately, but I've worked with 10GbE a while ago, back when it was more new, and if the prices have come down since, 10GbE switches and NAS should be pretty reasonably available now.
If not, then I've got a few great market opportunities and a few designs if anyone feels like investing in some prototypes. ;-)
You’re great mate,. Love your videos
Great video. Out of curiosity, why did you format it the chip to APFS?
always interested in more knowledge!
Yes, more videos please
Product links please
Are you having any problems with you’re Mac mini ???? So many people complain about wifi and Bluetooth problems
Very interested. Could that set up be used for Time Machine from different Macs?
Can I boot my max off the external m.
mac mini mod videos. yes please!
Hello, curious of something - does Ferrite studio work on Mac?
mixing up Mbit and Mbyte i guess? I sure hope the NVME drive is faster than 1500 Mbit/s...
I'm cool with Mac Mini videos too.
Definitely interested for file server and all the other settings you are planning!
Really enjoy your channel Chris. I would like to see a video on how to connect the iPad to a home server for storing and accessing files. I'm thinking of going iPad only with storage on USB sticks, SSDs or iCloud storage but having the server option would be the best. Thanks
Yes on server setups
100% Yes on the fileserver how to for me. This is something I want to do at my house but too stupid to do it at the moment. I use my Ipad pro 2018 for my day to day computing needs. I have a 2019 Macbook pro I kind of just have sitting around. I wanted to make a usb-c dock desk set up and have a big remote access storage space on the set up that I can link into ffrom the ipad, so this information is a godsend at the moment. My girlfriend also uses a 2019 MacBook pro but she only has the minimum storage space so this could be a great solution for her too if I can set it up for her to be able to use remotely.
Hey, love your vid. I keep looking around for a USB hub for Mac Mini M1, most of the vid shows this Mac mini look alike (Satechi, Cal...etc) I only need just a plain USB HUb. Thanks!
Great video!
Big iPad Pro, Mac, and network storage user. Please would you, could you address an issue I’m having. hi get the feeling you might know what’s going on here and I see no one taking issue with this but it can be _quite destructive_ for pro workflows. My iPad Pro rips through h265 footage taken from my sony cameras _like buttah baby._ *BUT!!..* viewing these original files changes the files creation/modification date. The royally fukks my ingestion process where I rename the files to be universally unique by renaming them using their metadata. Videos don’t have exit data so I use time stamps like YYYYMMDD_hhmmss.cameraModel.mp4 (and name XML sidecar to match. This all goes to shit if i ever even once VIEWED (and viewed only) any file on the iPad first. Any ideas? I’m just using the Files app on iPad to view and its default video player.
Is this system usable for Time Machine backups or do you advise something like Samsung T5/T7?
This works great for time machine. It’s super fast!
A vídeo turning this Mac Mini on a file server and others stuffs will be really nice to see!!!!
wow i was waiting for this kind of videokeep it up.
yes interested
Yes, and the automation
I would love to see a video on how to make the mac mini a server👍
Isn't this something most people know how to do? I thought you soldered a storage card on mac mini when I saw the title.
"speed test on external m1 mini storage" would have been much less clickbaity
Yes file server!!!👍🏾
Ya, I'm enjoying and learning with your videos! Amazing work
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Yes & Thanks
Yes Definitely interested in videos on the mac mini! I also have a 12.9 ipad pro that I do most of my computing on and some of my photography work using Adobe Lightroom. I purchased a 2020 mac mini, unfortunately not an M1, but still a fast computer. Wanted it for classic version of Lightroom and photo file management. I am also looking at how to set up my storage from existing external WD 4TB drives to either a larger multi drive cage or raid setup and or a NAS system. I am very interested in ways to make file management work using a mac mini and ipad . Thank you for your content. Now that i think about it maybe you will talk me into a file server with the mac mini. Cant wait to see how it works!
Great Video! Your december Newsletter was awesome!
Please Can you try the luna Display (Costs arround 80 $) and you can use the Ipad pro as the only monitor for your M1 Mac Mini. Would be so intersting to know if for expample you can use the frontcamera of the Ipad as a Webcam and how good this whole thing works. If everythig works it would be heaven for iPad users who are struggeling because they may need special software sometimes.
Yep! I ordered it the other day, I’m just waiting for it to arrive.
@@ChrisLawley Very Nice. I am a Student and I use my ipad Pro during home schooling. The biggest issue is: When i am using Zoom for a Meeting and I change the App for example to Goodnotes, my camera turns off. The lecturers at the university hate this. So if you test the Luna Display it would be nice if you can find out if the ipad Camera can work as a permanent Webcam :)
@@MichaelPepperTech I will have a look, thanks!
Videos on all you plans for the Mac please!!!!
👍 on more Mac mini videos.
I'd be interested in more of your videos featuring the Mac Mini and file server how-to's!
Thanks for showing us external storage???
A video on setting up the mini as a file server would be helpful.
Could you boot from the external drive?
No, too slow
I am not worried about speed more about capacity
Then the internal storage should just be fine. If you need to store more stuff, you just use an external drive. Theres no point in using an external drive as a boot drive
Ou yea please do that !
Would be awesome if they had something like this for the ram, would be cool if we could have external ram
You can, it's not real ram but it's ram. I don't know if MacOS allows you to set up where your swap memory is but you could offload the excess ram onto the external drive. Either by setting or by booting the entire OS off of it.
Moar Mac mini videos!!
Hey. My dad just sent me a link to a really cool iPad dock called StudioDock from Kensington. I don’t work for anyone I just thought you might enjoy taking a look.
I just checked it out, that is interesting! Thank you!!
Awesome vid! May I know if you would be interested in reviewing a microphone as well? :)
love it
Loving this new Mac / real computer content. Just ditch the iPad already :D
NEVER! :P
Yes how to use as file server
when are you going to be making a whats on my iPhone
Absurd that in 2021 Apple want £200 just to increase the measly 256GB of storage to a measly 512GB of storage. Defeats the purpose of producing such a cheap and powerful device.
Souls like how to maske it into a filmseriernes.😊

Click bait "use and external drive".
Unusable video. no one cares that you can put nvme disk into adapter to thunderbolt. I'm looking for video who tell me, how to replace memory chips.

Yes I’m interested in the Mac Mini videos
