    Good to see Amanda doing some stuff on her own. I know she will do well.

    I agree with you about Mid-Drive Ebikes. I own a Catrike Villager(trike) that I had installed at Utah trikes, a Bafang Mid-drive motor. I also did alot of research and determined that including a internal geared hubset was the best option for this install. The benefit of a IGH is that you can shift at any time, including at a dead stop. So, you wouldn't be screwed like you are with the Himiway. Now, you will have to raise the rear wheel and change the gear back to one(1) prior to riding it. I am sold on rear hub motors with torque sensors vs cadence sensors. Check out the new Euphree Stallion Falcon. It has both options(cadence and torque) in the display settings. Love the videos!

    I think it's time for the first annual E bike Reviews garage sale, clear out some of that extra inventory and just keep the good stuff. More funds to buy other bikes.

      LOL I'll sell them off periodically. We do have a community garage sale coming up. I could offer $5 rides with the Rickshaw.

    Hi Richard on my mustache Friday 27 2019 ebike the display tells me to shift up or down if I'm going up a hill or down, for a bike that's worth almost $6,000 Canadian.

    • @EbikeReviews
      @EbikeReviews  9 місяців тому +1

      WOW, well I guess that's why it costs almost $6,000 canadian. But it sounds like a great feature.

    Put Rick on the Himuway midrive. If you want a bike for exercise, a mid drive with torque sensor does the job.

    Got my rack for the Obsidian but my early build doesn't have bolt holes on the top of the swing arm. Waiting to hear from Mokwheel after I emailed them.

      Oh no. Good luck. Mokwheel does not have very good customer service. My rack should be arriving any day.

    Good morning Richard. On your mid drive, just leave the battery off it and ride around the neighborhood, a block or two. However, your legs feel better riding it, the motor will do better treating it the same. Really not something you have to learn and it’s honestly like tying shoes. Once you see where it goes you just do it then don’t think about it. I don’t like to think of them as a straight drive vehicle because that makes people think that hub drive is more like an automatic. The reality is a hub drive is more like a single speed. Not to say I am against hub drives and I actually just purchased one. To me the biggest issue with a Middrive is you do have more maintenance if you were putting on high mileage. Enjoy your day.

    I had heard about shifting on mid- ,drive motors. How I think of it is like my sports car and shifting. More money and a little harder to drive, But fun.

    Usually whenever I talk about mid drive bikes, I tell people it’s like driving a standard transmission car a very much like them if I’m trail riding because they’re very controllable not so much in the street rather have a hub motor and a torque sensor

    You have to ride a mid drive e-bike like you would a motorcycle or stick shift car. You cannot ride it like a hub drive unless you want to possibly burn out your controller, and/or put major stress on your entire drive train. If you're driving a 5 speed stick car, and leave it 5th gear coming to a stop at the light, you know what happens when you try to take off. The motor gets bogged down and you don't go anywhere. Same with a motorcycle. This doesn't matter on a hub motor because it supplies power to the rear wheel while being totally independent of the drive train. The only power going into the drive train is from your legs, like on a regular bicycle. With a mid drive all the motor power is going through the chain, along with all the power from your legs. This puts far more power into a typical bicycle drivetrain that it's really not designed for. So if you're pulling out from a dead stop in a high gear, or going up a steep hill in high gear, your putting lots of stress on the motor, chain, cassette, controller. Mid drive motors like to spin on the fast side, they don't like being lugged at a low RPM. So using the proper gears with the terrain your taking and downshifting before stopping is important. All of this is irrelevant with a hub drive. Really the only plus of a mid drive is that the motor is hooked up to your cassette gears. If you're in the lowest gear, (biggest rear sprocket) you'll have way more torque to take steep hills than you would on a hub drive, if the both motors are of equal power. There are advantages of a mid drive, it's what the more high end MTB ebikes use, but honestly I think the hub motor is best for the majority of riders. Just get on and go without worrying about what gear you're in. I can only imagine all the mid drives with broken chains, cassettes that wear out in no time, or burnt controllers because of people who have no idea how to use one properly.

    Then there's the Evelo Omega. Mid-drive with automatic shifting. Takes all the guess work out of it.

    D5 Pro: It's like driving a manual car. You can't drive away in the 4th gear.

    Richard, look at the torque on a 500w mid-drive motor. It's more then a 750w hub-drive. This is why they do that and not only that but it increases the range with less power used from the battery. When it comes to hills that 500w mid-drive will put the 750w hub-drive to shame.
