Link to the Past is a very important game to me, is what made me a proper Zelda fan forever... I was obsessed with it back in the day... I would rent it multiple times from the Video Store until I bought my own copy, beat it, and still went back to play it over.
Christmas '98, i had never heard of Zelda despite owning a SNES. My cousin brought over Ocarina of Time that he had gotten that Christmas morning and I was blown away. I was 10, did not have an N64 yet nor would my parents have bought me a fullpriced N64 game immediately after Christmas. The neat part about Echo of Wisdom's map being an extension of the Link to the Past map, is that LttP's map was an extension of the original Zelda map. The original Zelda takes place on LttP's Death Mountain. Therefore the original Zelda map would be adapted (in a way) in Echoes of Wisdom.

I have an SNES Link to the Past cartridge, but I remember getting stuck with just a couple dungeons left, and never finishing it. I finally decided to try it again a couple of years ago, and was very happy to finally finish it. I've never played the GBA version.
Nightdive Studios is a wonderful development team that has blessed us with a plethora of remasters in addition to the new Doom remastered campaign including the first Star Wars: Dark Forces, Quake 1 & 2, Turok 1 - 3, and a bunch more! They also completely remade the original System Shock from the ground up, which turned out awesome.
It being one of my favorite all-time games, I have too many stories about A Link to the Past to write here, but in 2010 I managed to finish the game--a GBA cart on a DSi--on a single battery charge while backpacking through China & SE Asia.
I finished ALTTP for the first time this year. Working on ALBW but kind of slow for some reason. And now just bought Link's Awakening for the Switch and pretty far through it. All to prepare for this. Funny how I feel like a HUGE Zelda fan, with Zelda 2 my first when it came out for NES (dating myself), yet so many games to play/finish the first time. I even played Zelda 1 in 2020 during COVID for the first time!
The version of Link to the Past I'm playing is the GBA one on NSO. I played the original on the Wii I think but I stopped early on. No idea why. But I'm sticking with the GBA version this month. And I'm also playing through the Four Swords game with some guys from the Discord server. So, it's been fun, but challenging, to experience this game.
Wonderful discussion as always! Y’all are so charming that I don’t even skip your ad reads. I hope you can highlight this comment when approaching potential sponsors. 😂
Link to the Past was my first Zelda game and the second video game I ever played (after StarFox!) So I have wonderful memories of playing it with my dad and uncle. I will never tire of wandering around that Hyrule 💖
BotW was the first Zelda game I actually played and completed. I think I tried original Zelda here and there and never understood it and couldn't get into it. I follow a lot of speedrunners though, so I have seen full playthroughs of most Zelda games multiple times. I am not sure I know alttp as well though. I am going to try Echoes of Wisdoms, but I am not sure how far I will make it. It does give BotW vibes, so I think I will like it. I bought Link's Awakening Switch, and didn't finish it.
Sorry about the multiple comments, i watch this over days and just drop in as I have things to say. Doom 1+2 is only the most recent amazing way they've brought forward classic games. They did the same thing with Quake 1 and Quake 2, and both came with all expansions, new content and crossplay with their 10 dollar remaster release. The teams behind these remasters (for Doom 1+2 also) deserve more attention for how amazing their works are. By the way the reason it was free for you is that the remaster is a FREE upgrade to all owners of the previous release of either 1 or 2.
I like the art style they chose, but I would have loved it if this game had an HD a Link Between Worlds art style. I just like how the characters looked more like the concept art of alttp.
A pet peeve of mine is when I'm listening like a podcast and I zone out when they mention the title of the game they are talking about, and then I spend the next 5 minutes trying to figure out what game they are talking about because they never mention the title again. It's a me problem, but it's happened like every podcast for me lol.
I was born in 93 and I've only played the GBA version. I will eventually play the SNES version but it won't be until after Echoes as I'm playing through my backlog. Bravely Default is my current game
I played the SNES version of ALTTP for the first time in 2021. Put a bunch of time into it during zoom classes, and I really enjoyed it. I think it would be so cool if there's a remake of ALTTP bundled with Echos of Wisdom, but I know Nintendo would never do that lol
Another awesome episode you two. Zelda is going to be great, there is no need to stress Krysta. I think you are going to love it! I am really excited about it after the latest trailer and this is going to be the BOTW refresh 2D Zelda needs. Have a great week!
2D Zelda is relevant forever! My favourite style of Zelda if I'm being honest. I suppose because I'm older and it takes me back. I'd love a HD Remake of both Oracles games, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, Between worlds etc. I wouldn't be opposed to having the other 3D ports over to Switch. I never played Skyward Sword until Switch. I played completely handheld the entire time, headphones plugged in and had the most amazing experience with that game. I loved the flick of the stick for sword swings over gyro.
Krysta hated Tears of the Kingdom so much it melted from her mind the fact that Impa did have a granddaughter AND a sister in BotW and TokT. Playing Tears of the Kingdom while hearing the TokT slander was certainly an experience. That being said, A Link to the Past was my first Zelda game and made me fall in love with the series, but i never played the GBA version and am seriously considering it now. I can't wait for Echoes of Wisdom and I really doubt the gameplay will be annoying.
I only played the snes version of ALTTP! I forgot it came out again for GBA. I rented the game multiple times from blockbuster until i beat it. I miss blockbuster days!
I’m with Krista with it being a wanted poster. What suggests Zelda is missing in this game? If anyone is missing, it’s Link after he disappears in the rift.
I don't think the non traditional dungeon design in TOTK works as well in 2D Zelda, so I am thinking yeah probably more traditional... but it may also still have open gameplay elements
ALttP is a Zelda game I play every time it gets released on a new console. It will always get my money lol. As soon as it launched on GBA NSO I was all over it.
All the marketing material up until now point out that Nintendo wants to move 2D Zelda in the same direction as 3D Zelda, so no, I don't think we're fonna have traditional dungeons. Even if Nintendo heeded the crtiticisms that TotK received in this regard, they'd had less than one time to course correct, which I don't think is enough.
I really hope so. A link to the past and Ocarina of time are regarded by the old school as the 2 Best Zelda games. At the very least, they are what defines the "traditional" zelda formula to perfection. Top 3 for me easily, with either MM or TP in the 3rd spot. Hopefully this new one is more linear and has those elements, but who knows with the current director. I hope they are not trying to do the same open world concepts with 2D as what they are doing with 3d Zelda. Let's hope it has action like ALTTP and not more of a puzzle type game. The general consensus lately around the internet is people really dont want anymore Open World Zelda. BOTW and TOTK really have beaten it to death and people want the older games again.
Grew up on the GBA version of ALTTP, and didn't experience the SNES version until the Wii era through the virtual console. I've always preferred the GBA version because of its portability (at the time) and it played a bit better than the SNES version, performance-wise. Both are still great experiences, and I have no problem playing both.
When we say "We didn't know Impa had a brother", aren't there multiple Impas? I'm not the best at lore, but isn't just like Zelda and Link, there are different Impas at different times in different games? So we may have never heard of Impa having a brother because we never met this EoW Impa before???
Echoes of Wisdom - those are wanted posters. When Zelda mets Tri, she is in basement being held captive. Furthermore, there is footage that shows she needs to sneak past the guards as well as Impa taking out some guards on Zelda’s behalf. Why would that be necessary if she was missing? I think there will be dungeons, but it won’t be the traditional format. We see a couple of sections where the game play is truly 2D, not top down 3D. These sections only existed in the dungeons in Link’s Awakening. I think dungeons will be more like the Lightning Temple from Tears of the Kingdom. I think the rifts will be like shrines although there won’t nearly be as many as BotW or ToK.
Question: Why does the Japanese website look like a multi-page information site for a single game, like EoW, but the US page is just flat out "Here is the game. BUY IT!". The English site does not get much details. Why??? Because of translation needed and not worth it, or is it a different of cultures, where a Japanese needs to be sold on it, where an American is "DON'T TELL ME ANYTHING!! LALALALALALA"?
Honestly dungeons were usually my least favorite part of Zelda games since they felt like I’m entering a completely separate, isolated area from the main game/story. Everything in BOTW and TOTK felt integrated with the main world, which helped with immersion.
They will probably be half dungeons, Nintendo doesn't know what a real dungeon is anymore lol. Hoping for the best though and its not too easy. "I love when Link is Batman!" lol
48:39 she gets it.. thats what i been saying and is the ONLY problem with tears of the kingdom. tears of the kingdom made breath of the wild better but its still missing the most important thing in a zelda game like WTF????
I actually didn't get into Zelda until OoT. Fun fact, i hated the series because i was in that "hate popular things" phase haha. My bro got it for me and asked me to at least try it. The rest is history lol. Point of the story, i didn't play alttp until The GBA remake. THEN i went back and played the snes version via virtual console later. I adore both versions, but I prefer the gba version mainly because i had a great time with four swords with friends too. Also, I'm not comprehending the hate on TotK's dungeons. I HATED the dungeons in BotW, it's a big reason I didn't enjoy that game very much. TotK fixed that in a major way for me. I loved the dungeons in the game they were fun. To each their own I guess but to act like the dungeons in TotK were NOT a major improvement over the repetitive nonsense in BotW seems a bit silly. :(
Love Cat Quest 3 so far but are there anyone else who got the physical switch version that gets the message "you can't earn gold points for this software yet" when trying to claim theirs?
Holy cow, people are going nuts spinning themselves into a circle over this game ‘You play as Link? The game is RUINED!’ ‘It better have traditional dungeons!’ Maybe I just don’t understand the current ‘dungeon withdrawal’ that people seemed to have gone through with BotW and TotK since I barely played them, but man people gotta manage their expectations! It feels crazy to see these lofty expectations for the game to play and feel exactly like the old games and if it doesn’t have these specific things then it’s ’not even a real Zelda game!’, especially when the whole premise of the game is something completely fresh and new What if it’s not like a ‘traditional Zelda game’, whatever that even means, would that be so bad? Don’t go into it judging the game for not being what it never said it even was, try enjoying it for what it is It’s one month away people!
My only hope is they don’t become like the totk shrines where there are many ways of solving the puzzle cuz the abilities given to you are so busted in that game you can pretty much get past most puzzles with ultra hand and rewind and i fear they might be if we don’t get the return of items while echos sound cool it makes me a bit concerned how dungeons will be handled i feel like the echos might be your items much like the abilities in totk and botw either way hyped for this game just concerned how dungeons will be handled i dont want top down to suffer from awful dungeons too
@novustalks7525 Puzzles are for...ignoring the solution and making extra work for yourself? ...No? Puzzles are for challenging the player to find a working solution.
Zelda is a bit small in the cover art, and with Link being twice on flat paper, turning this into 3D and the distance he is in the back, HE IS HUGE!!! And the Moblin, also back further, is technically bigger than her if this was real! Why the small Zelda and big Link? To sell it better? Just curious, not complaining.
they already showed that the game uses the exact same "quick" menu as tears of the kingdom... tri's little triforce pieces are the "mana"... have yall not seen the trailers?
To a ton of older fans, this game is way more relevant than re-hashing the open-world formula again. They should next make a standard 3D Zelda game. Open-world Zelda is just 1 of 3 formulas that make up the Zelda franchise, it doesn't replace the others.
Dungeons in BOTW/TOTK are open world, that's the point. We do not 'miss' the old games, in fact you are free to go back and play them as much as you want. As far I'm concerned, it sounds like EoW will just be an open world Zelda game that's 2D - which is what ALBW did.
Gotta be frank: I was so excited when i saw the artstyle in the direct, even more when it was clear we play as Zelda... and then it all fell appart bit by bit. It's not classic Zelda, it's botw 2D. But honestly, that is fine though. Zelda changed, it's been my favorite series for 25th years, it's okay to move on from it and let a new generation enjoy, whatever it is now.
"I have a HEALTHY relationship with video games Unlike YOU" That smacks of a guy who has forced himself to "not care" about anything by pushing against ANY compulsion to do a task Infront of him neatly and well. Bitter resentment of those who stick to a task and get things done properly and NOT by blagging it with their own shortcuts or getting minions to do it for them. The kind of people who text, and cut scene, skip a new MMO expansion and then parade the prize mount Infront of everyone as they quietly work through the story at their own pace. Some people like to be thorough Kit! Everyone has their own way of doing things. I don't decry those who prefer to rush or simplify a task... But don't MAKE a battle and set YOUR method as the "winning" way. And then stand with your hands on your hips expecting people to say "You're right... I'm so dumb not doing this your way".
It's me again.... by the way I see these switch games aren't really good nowadays. Am I right?? It seems like they want me to just purchase the MigSwitch Modchip cartridge.
I am so confused... What about the Divine Beast dungeons and Dungeons of TotK made them "Not Dungeons"? They're Dungeons. They just are! Rooms, Chests, Keys, a Boss at the end... HOW WERE THEY NOT DUNGEONS!? You pedantic bunch.
If this have doesn't have traditional dungeons, no way in hell I'm buying it. The dungeons are what made Zelda games so amazing and they abandoned them in BotW and TotK. If they do it again, the Zelda franchise is dead to me
Dungeons will never be back, The legend of zelda is dead. There is only remaining a game serie that completely falsely carry the name anymore, nothing more
I'm so tired of old school zelda fans trying to ruin everything by making the series move backwards with old school dungeons designs. I'm so so tired and sick of that nonsense let it go you fools let it go. Also don't lie about the quality of origami king just because you're a bitter that your precious tttyd remake didn't do nearly as well as you would hope it would
my unpopular opinion is that BOTW and TOTK are not real Zelda games. They feel like every other open world game with just a Zelda flavor added to it. I hated it so much, because they are way too difficult for me. I much prefer a more cartoonish, simpler Zelda game. My favorite one is windwaker but I also love a link to the past. I was delighted when they remade Links awakening and this new one looks like it will be the same style of graphics and quests. I will definetly have way more fun with this new one than I ever could with the more mature Zelda games
Oooh Cody, pot calling the kettle black here? We all know you've done far more to endanger children here. But also how's about some proof of "child labor slaves" being used by Nintendo? 🤡
Oh this ought to be good. Show evidence of these huh? Mind you, extremely illegal claims like these are rather easy to verify 🤡 The irony of you - a person who has endangered children for years - being the one to try to make this claim is not lost on me 🤣🤣
Link to the Past is a very important game to me, is what made me a proper Zelda fan forever... I was obsessed with it back in the day... I would rent it multiple times from the Video Store until I bought my own copy, beat it, and still went back to play it over.

@@TheShoemakerETF It isn't a 1 to 1 depiction, but yes. I believe it's shown in the game manual and a Zelda art book.

It feels crazy to see these lofty expectations for the game to play and feel exactly like the old games and if it doesn’t have these specific things then it’s ’not even a real Zelda game!’, especially when the whole premise of the game is something completely fresh and new
What if it’s not like a ‘traditional Zelda game’, whatever that even means, would that be so bad?
Don’t go into it judging the game for not being what it never said it even was, try enjoying it for what it is
It’s one month away people!

My only hope is they don’t become like the totk shrines where there are many ways of solving the puzzle cuz the abilities given to you are so busted in that game you can pretty much get past most puzzles with ultra hand and rewind and i fear they might be if we don’t get the return of items while echos sound cool it makes me a bit concerned how dungeons will be handled i feel like the echos might be your items much like the abilities in totk and botw either way hyped for this game just concerned how dungeons will be handled i dont want top down to suffer from awful dungeons too
That's on you for not doing the puzzles properly then
@@novustalks7525Nope. If the cheesy, dumb solution is more obvious than the intended solution, that's on the devs.
@@TriforceWisdom64 It's on you for being lazy. That's what puzzles are for
@novustalks7525 Puzzles are for...ignoring the solution and making extra work for yourself? ...No? Puzzles are for challenging the player to find a working solution.
@@TriforceWisdom64 Exactly. And you just ignored them

7 sages and they all gonna tell us the same copy paste story. "Come!Let me tell you about the sealing war 7 times" 😅
Just like TOTK, it probably won't have traditional dungeons with the good old map, compass, keys and new items. Guess we'll wait and see.
Those older type of dungeons get exhausting fairly quickly
To a ton of older fans, this game is way more relevant than re-hashing the open-world formula again. They should next make a standard 3D Zelda game. Open-world Zelda is just 1 of 3 formulas that make up the Zelda franchise, it doesn't replace the others.
I feel like Krysta has been so negative lately. Not everything has to be so doom and gloom!
Dungeons in BOTW/TOTK are open world, that's the point. We do not 'miss' the old games, in fact you are free to go back and play them as much as you want. As far I'm concerned, it sounds like EoW will just be an open world Zelda game that's 2D - which is what ALBW did.
A lot of Zelda fans do miss the old style of dungeons.
"I have a HEALTHY relationship with video games Unlike YOU"
That smacks of a guy who has forced himself to "not care" about anything by pushing against ANY compulsion to do a task Infront of him neatly and well.
I could do without dungeons.
Sadly I think that the small rift are "Shrines" and the bigger one are the "Main Dungeons"
It's me again.... by the way I see these switch games aren't really good nowadays. Am I right?? It seems like they want me to just purchase the MigSwitch Modchip cartridge.
Switch games are great

What about the Divine Beast dungeons and Dungeons of TotK made them "Not Dungeons"?
They're Dungeons.
They just are!
Rooms, Chests, Keys, a Boss at the end... HOW WERE THEY NOT DUNGEONS!?
You pedantic bunch.
If this have doesn't have traditional dungeons, no way in hell I'm buying it. The dungeons are what made Zelda games so amazing and they abandoned them in BotW and TotK. If they do it again, the Zelda franchise is dead to me
No they didn't. Totk literally dungeons. And they were some of the best in the franchise

I'm so tired of old school zelda fans trying to ruin everything by making the series move backwards with old school dungeons designs.
I'm so so tired and sick of that nonsense let it go you fools let it go. Also don't lie about the quality of origami king just because you're a bitter that your precious tttyd remake didn't do nearly as well as you would hope it would
No
my unpopular opinion is that BOTW and TOTK are not real Zelda games.
I doubt it, looks like a very child friendly game...
You are sounding a bit entitled and childish with the whole dungeon thing
Traditional dungeons? How about the child labor slaves Nintendo continues to use.
Oooh Cody, pot calling the kettle black here? We all know you've done far more to endanger children here.
But also how's about some proof of "child labor slaves" being used by Nintendo? 🤡
Oh this ought to be good. Show evidence of these huh? Mind you, extremely illegal claims like these are rather easy to verify 🤡
The irony of you - a person who has endangered children for years - being the one to try to make this claim is not lost on me 🤣🤣
