Absolutely. If it's one thing Sonic games have over Mario, it's music. Every game not only has some catchy tunes but absolute bangers as well. It's just people are hard set on the notion that Sonic = bad in every sense lol
I definitely agree. The music in Wonder is actually pretty basic from what i have heard so far. The wonder effect music is terrible for it being in every level.
Agree with Kit, I really enjoyed the live multiplayer online... people were helpful and felt like they egged you on, it just makes the levels more alive.

@@VideoStalker00 I think subconsciously that’s why I didn’t use it. I wasn’t really looking forward to the hidden seed levels after the first 2 and I saved them for last. The reason there probably isn't an item that allows you to fly like the cape is because in multiplayer the character with the crown would probably ditch everyone every time they got the chance to fly lol
Wonder is yeah the best 2D Mario since Mario World. Its the best Platformer since that era too. I'm having a blast playing it. My kids are enjoying it. My wife wants in on the action when we play. I always 100% 2D Mario but this one feels like not only I want to 100% it but I'm having fun trying to 100% it. The music is amazing, the wonder effects are wild, and the new power ups are top tier Mario. Its 10 out of 10 for me. I think Mario Wonder should be one of the nominees for Gaming Awards GOTY
Aww, now I wish they had added a "Dolphin Mario" power up instead of just the badge! That would've been so much more fun. I also lament the lack of any kind of flight power up... they should've brought back the Bee suit
I’m playing through levels once, and then whatever I missed, I’ll get later as Yoshi/Nabbit. That way I get to play the level normally without “cheats”, while also getting to play the other characters.
I have been enjoying Super Mario Bros Wonder. For my “regular” play through, I had the online stuff off so I could just focus and enjoy the levels. Since I beat the game, I now have it turned so I can try to 100 percent the game. It helps to see where the ghosts go and sometimes people will actually give you hints in real time. The standees are useful on certain special world levels. My one disappointment were the boss fights or the lack thereof. Bowser Jr was fine but to have only him was disappointing. Also there were the airships and certain worlds that did not any boss fights that I found disappointing.
Random suggestion mainly for the "Games we're playing" segments: Sometimes I miss the introduction to a discussion of a particular game, and the game's name doesn't get mentioned again even if it's discussed for a while. Maybe you could have the name of whatever game is being discussed written on the screen somewhere?
Kit, I VEHEMENTLY disagree with your Nabbit AND your Bowser Jr. opinion! Nabbit is such a cool little scamp and I never want him to go away. I wish he weren’t easy mode so I could play as him! Bowser Jr. Is my favorite Mario character ever! I was half hoping he was more than a mini-boss. Alas, I instead play as Toadette, who melts my heart every time she goes “Buh Bye” or “Toodles” at the end of a course. God this game’s character’s rule
As soon as I saw the final level and boss fight, I immediately thought the name of the strange and obscure Mario 64 ROM hack would have been perfect for it. Bowser’s Dank Rave.
Listen I love Mario... but as a person who bought a Genesis JUST TO PLAY Sonic... it's hard to argue sometimes... that Sonic music can be THAT GOOD yet different... so I don't blame the view count to some degree
I just beat Mario Wonder last night... although I watched Wood from BeatEmUps beat it couple nights prior to see the ending. Have to say yes, this is honestly the best 2D Mario in a long time since Super Mario World, but is it as good as SMW and SMB3 I still hesitate to say yes but it's still in good company with them for now
I got Cuphead when it came out on Xbox One X and the game crashed on me 3 times and softlocked twice, once right after I defeated a boss that took me a while to beat. I dropped the game after that. Bloodstained was similar, 1 softlock and 3 crashes when I played it on release. Very disappointing.
I remember when Krysta told a story about a storage room that she organized that had a lot of older products in there. I wonder if Nintendo is using items in that room for their new museum.
I enjoyed the badges in Mario Wonder, but a lot of them were abilities Mario, Luigi, and Peach have had in previous games. I really miss the different characters having different feeling movesets. While it means picking a character doesn't ruin a particular level, it also means there is no reason to pick anyone in particular. It's also a little silly that every Yoshi is invincible since his moveset is actually different.
Im more of a playstation fan, ever been since 1997 ... but Mario Wonder is an amazing game, and I cant think of a mario that has been this fun since mario 64 or mario world (... probably because the older you get, the less you find mario games magical etc with sunshine, galaxy or odyssey - im not a kid anymore). As I said before, if Baldurs Gate 3 wasnt out this year, it would have been my GOTY. so yeah, I put it above re 4 remake, street fighter 6, diablo 4 and spiderman 2. Mario Wonder is a must have title IF you enjoy platformers. oh almost forgot, I 100% it and got all secrets and medals and the last "final final special level" was INSANELY hard towards the end BUT I DID IT! that was evil what they did towards the end of that level. EVIL! But then again, I finished it after 1 hour, so its def not impossible ;)
Great episode towards Halloween 2023. Super Mario Bros Wonder is definitely the best 2D Mario game since Super Mario World. The 2023 GOTY debate is gonna be interesting.
I think the music in Wonder feels a bit too goofy for my liking. I personally think "groovy" music works better for Mario. Like Koji Kondo once told Mahito Yokota, the main composer for Super Mario Galaxy, "Mario is not cute, he's cool!"
the bubble is designed to be able to fly over huge gaps but it's very much designed for the ceiling hardcore mario audience who can do the technique lol
Kit, loved the underscore this week!! Loved the discussion about Wonder. It is definitely up there with one of my favourite 2D Mario games now. This is the first 2D Mario I have ever wanted to 100% so that is saying a lot. Thanks for the great episode this week! The 2 hours flew by.

30-second bursts of creativity is not enough for a Super Mario level. Nothing/no one is stopping Nintendo from making the ENTIRETY of levels overflow with creativity except for some older holdouts like Tezuka. Despite the wonder seed being Tezuka's idea, he still added an inauthentic cap on innovation. Limitation breeds creativity, but old traditions die hard -- which is less true of Nintendo these days than ever before, but still exists in some fashion with Super Mario Bros Wonder being an example of too much limitation.
I’m not against that, but maybe they thought that’d be too much of a jump and would turn people off. Because you can still skip wonder flowers, whereas if that _was_ the entire level, you wouldn’t. Plus, it’s been like a decade since they made any real new 2D Mario levels with new enemies/power ups/tools, so maybe they really wanted to make a lot of classic side-scroller levels. Hopefully they revisit this “multiple genres/level layouts” in some form again.
I totally agree. I feel with most wonder seed instances we only get a sample of what it truly could have been. If it was an entire level I would have enjoyed it much much more. Or have some normal levels and then other levels that are fully wonder seed levels.
@@reev9759 My point is, maybe they thought prospecting customers would find it too off-putting to have level change mid-game, “I got a side-scroller, why am I playing from a top-down view now?”. And my (minuscule) evidence to support that they were hesitant, is that wonder flowers in a lot (all?) cases can be skipped. So anyone who would be turned off by those changes, could avoid them. It gives the impression the devs were too afraid to fully commit to the idea by only changing a “part” of a level, and even still is optional. The other argument was that maybe they themselves didn’t want to go too crazy, because it’s been a while and they miss making regular 2D levels with new enemies/elements. So if they made these wonder effects into entire levels, they’d get fewer opportunities to make the usual left-to-right 2D levels.
