Ashden Awards: Energise Barnsley, charging up clean community energy

Meet Energise Barnsley - winner of the 2024 Ashden Award for People’s Energy.
Energise Barnsley, set up with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, supports community clean energy projects in and around the Yorkshire town. Working with housing provider Berneslai Homes, it has installed solar panels and battery systems in the homes of older people - so they can generate and store energy.
In a place where 19% of people find it challenging to afford their fuel bills, Energise Barnsley has lowered fuel costs by up to 50%.
