Sincerelly, all respect to conductor Arnold Ostman, to musicians in orchestra and singers at stage who played their roles. Thanks to all of them I understood better this opera. Congratulations to all!
An excellent example of what opera buffa should be. Masterfully crafted to not take itself seriously. The music fits the libretto wonderfully, it's funny and playful. The comedy is still funny to this day. So, overall Salieris Falstaff is a masterpiece of comical opera! Viva maestro Salieri
Bellissimo. False history, that Salieri in "Falstaff" relied on "The Marriage of Figaro" Mozart. He relied André Grétr's - "L’Amant jaloux" , 1778.; Joseph Schuster - "Il Marito Indolente", 1782.; Giovanni Paisiello - "Barber of Seville" 1782. Sarti - "Fra i due litiganti il terzo gode" 1782. - These 4 operas are plagiarized by Mozart in "The Marriage of Figaro " 1786.! And most importantly, for the history of music and ideas: the complicated finale of the first act of Sarti's opera also served as a model for the finale of the last act of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. Unfortunately, there is no Sarti opera on the Internet. By the way, the duel in 1786. Salieri versus Mozart - let's remember - Who won? Emperor Joseph II, who liked to organize competitions between composers and operas, commissioned one-act comic operas on the same theme: "theatrical backstage" - by: Salieri and Mozart. Mozart to the German libretto by Stefani - "Der Schauspiel Director" KV 486, and Salieri to the Italian libretto by Casti - "Prima la musica e poi le parole". Both operas were presented to the public in Schönbrunn on February 7, 1786. Salieri's work won and proved the superiority of buffo opera(!)
Disagree. Salieri is excellent. The music is wonderful, cheerful, masterfully crafted to fit the tone and libretto of a comedic opera which Falstaff is. The actors are excellent. They understand the assignment of not taking this play seriously and you can hear it when the play calls for comedy. You're just being silly sir. Because of Amadeus
Salieri was arguably the most creative and versatile opera composer of his day. As well as influencing Mozart and Beethoven, I can hear traces of Rossini in Falstaff and the comedies, and hints at what Verdi, Berlioz and even Wagner would later do in Tarare and Les Danaïdes. Just listen to the opening of Tarare. An underrated figure for sure. I challenge anyone to find something earlier than Salieri that hints at the potential scope of opera in the late 1800s like this. Bach perhaps. Mozart in his own way but I believe he was heavily inspired by Salieri’s operas and the evidence is in the music and the dates. It’s not fair to call the singing bad in this performance, it’s all very good and appropriately acted. Probably not “authentic” but no less so than any standard interpretation of this period. We will never know what authentic singing was really like before the invention of recording and there was a lot of time for styles to develop and transform between 1799 when this opera was written and the invention of the phonoautograph in 1857 and the earliest sound recordings that exist. Compare cultural norms from 1899 to 1957. There’s a big difference.

Yes - when the young student Beethoven arrived in Vienna, Salieri was one of his teachers.
59:20 one of the greatest arias in the entire operatic repertoire
Salieri was truly a genius. Thank God for the film, Amadeus, which first introduced me (when it first came out) to this Illustrissimo Maestro!
Вы правы, незаслуженно обидели люди великого композитора, такие лживые фильмы типа "Амадей" наоборот направят на поиск истины о человеке 🙏
