    I fully agree, it's the same here in Europe, only the government wins with raising the minimum wages. The people who get the raise lose and so does the middle class. Result is that businesses have few staff means they need todo the work for five people with four, when employees complain they are being told: "You just got a pay raise...."

    I'm a real estate investor by profession and I really can't complain. These rising costs have forced me to learn every trade and actually be pretty decent at most of them. I bought all the needed tools and use them skillfully. It's been a blessing. I've added an unimaginable amount of skillset to my abilities and they're ones I'll carry for life. No complaints here. I turn over properties at lightening speed and wait on no SOB to hand me my ass with their estimates.

      yea I hope you have some cash somewhere else. I forecast a real estate collapse this year. I was right in 2005 about 08 made millions on the down market.

    Whole lot different loading a hand masker than flipping a burger . It’s hard to pay out 25 hr in the feild for a painter even with 5 years under there belt tuff trade to fine good help in .

      I don't understand, don't you factor labor into your bid? It's not like it's money out of your profit margin. The HO should be paying for your hourly guys.

  • @dpheneghan2

    I have to paint my house. The HOA is threatening me, $100 per week fine at this point (I live in Las Vegas), that's why I found your channel. I can't afford to hire a contractor, but I sure wish that I could (I earn $500 per week). This has become a much bigger job than I anticipated. Don't want to be in this position again, that is, I don't want to be broke where I can't afford a contractor. I should NOT be getting up on a ladder at my age. (Pray for me!). BTW, your channel is very helpful. I took up one of you tips, am going out to buy some flat-head spray tips instead of those fancy ones.

    • @mikethepainter
      @mikethepainter  6 місяців тому +1

      hey yea I get it when I am 10 years older getting up a ladder will be serious. the older folks need the contractors but the prices from the inflation are not affordable. I hate charging that much.

      My advice is ditch the airless and brush and roll. Yes, it's time consuming. Spraying opens the door to all kinds of things to go wrong. Hint-pros carry overspray insurance. Not to mention less margin of error as far as technique goes. If you can't hire a pro brush and roll. Buy good paint. Be patient.

    This is a common problem in all of the lib states! I'm in NY (not for long) and the same thing happened here, the government always takes care of themselves at the cost of the people. Those of us that live in these problem states are painfully aware but others may not know what's really going on so thank you for this informational video.

    I think you guys should come to Australia, Tradesman, Painters included will not even look at a job below $120 per hour US +- $90 and that is for one person, Concreters show up with 6 guys to pour a 100m2 slab, and they demand concrete on time, and a concrete pump, so $3000 for concreter + all his drinking buddies, concrete pump with 1 guy $800-900 and the concrete, $4000. and you pay from the time they leave home and return to home. So $8000 for a 100m2 slab. AND they take 1 and a half hours breakfast and lunch break. Then they still got the cheek to ask for 24 beers for the "boys". Come to Australia we have a massive shortage in tradesmen, you will all become millionaires if you take all the jobs you get offered.

    11K. My brother just got his house painted, lives in the mid-atlantic coast of Florida, not the urban areas, not the fancy high priced areas. 22K was the price. Now, he does have a big house 3000 square feet, but wow.

      South Bay Area 2 months ago we were charged 15k by siders to redo a chimney. 8 sheets of t-111 total. And we supplied the paint. Afterwards the same crew bid 14k to do the rest of the house. Another company that subs out bid 24k. The house Is not easy. I've been doing it myself. Since late Oct. Almost finished. 24k was hard to stomach. And having siders paint a whole house also seemed bad. They do ok work, they aren't great at siding nor painting but the HO and I could not get the old siding off ourselves so...the house Is 2300 on zillow but has two add ons that make it significantly larger. Also the second story is stucco the bottom is t-111. Crazy trim there's both a belly band and wood drip edge that goes around most.of.the house. Two sections are about 50-60 feet each. And theyre 9 or 10 feet off the ground. LoL

      @@mikethepainterif you don't mind me asking when you bid a job how do you factor in overhead? What's your overhead on say a two story full exterior repaint? I'm talking insurance workers comp taxes whatever it costs out of pocket to do a pretty big to average job? This does not include material costs paint tape sandpaper etc. Also ballpark what does labor actually cost you owning a business? Say you pay $25 hourly after taxes and all that get factored in what does a man hour of labor really cost?

You are spot on about CA and to think Big Blue may run Newsome to bring this garbage to the rest of America. People need to start talking about the problems.

Now the ones I was paying 15 to 20 need 30 and I just cant pay that. I think you dont understand why it is better to have low wages. @@mikethepainter I do agree that everything else goes up when minimum wage goes up. I also know CA real estate is a joke and has been for decades. It is way overpriced . You can't charge more to make up the difference because other contractors will under bid you and use illegal immigrants for labor.How many contractors do you know that are using illegal immigrants instead of Americans ?

    The real problem with the whole thing is people believing in politics period, thats what they want everyone to do pick a side, either left or right so they can keep us divided. If everyone would stand together on the Constitution in which this country was made on then we wouldn't have to worry about them an making up laws or lying straight to us for votes. We need to get rid of both political parties an go back to the old ways

    • @mikethepainter
      @mikethepainter  6 місяців тому +1

      I understand what your saying but this is REAL....Government is making laws that are just plain hurting businesses. Ignoring the problem just makes it worse. Raising minimum wage to this point has made is just about impossible for a lot of businesses to survive. That is why people are leaving. They just cant make it.

    • @mikethepainter
      @mikethepainter  6 місяців тому +1

      BTW your right if they would just follow the constitution. Gavin newsome and Brown make gun laws that they blatantly know are unconstitutional. They know they will get thrown out of the supreme court. Then once they do they change a few sentences and resubmit them.....It is criminal. but it is legal.

      I disagree. I was taught auto refinishing the right way and the body man who taught me took a lot of pride.being perfectly clean at the end of the day. If you can paint and be clean at the end of the day you're a pro. It's the sales reps who just bid jobs you shouldn't trust. Or painters with paint all over their pants hands etc. Caulking on their shirts don't hire guys like that.
