Candi Castleberry Singleton is the founder and CEO of Dignity & Respect Inc, an organization that promotes dignity and respect for self, others, and communities. Candi partners with senior executives, business process owners, and community leaders to build sustainable practices for the workplace and marketplace. She has implemented successful initiatives as Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer at UPMC, Vice President of Global Inclusion and Diversity at Motorola, and as leader of the Global Inclusion Center of Expertise at Sun Microsystems.

This is a talk that has got me taking notes. There's nothing like a knowledgeable mother who knows how to train the minds of her children in handling life's hurdles.
Mothers are overrated. Maternal and paternal knowledge even more so.

@@Est.1993 That is a fair point. I don't disparage maternal and paternal knowledge, I simply refuse to reify it. This is why I said it was overrated.

I disagreed with her initial assumption. I would not have raised my hand and asserted I deserve a damn thing from anyone. I am honored with the knowledge that others find value in what I offer, yet I "deserve" nothing. I will remain thankful for having been blessed and will seek to avoid accepting any "gifts" from peddlers of falsehoods.

I don't understand why you were feeling disrespected. Because they didn't have a room available? Are you saying that they were not catering to your needs that they were being disrespectful. You brought up diversity. Not sure what diversity had to deal with a lack of diversity because they had no rooms available.
