I dig your choice of wheels, I use 17" of the same wheel, they look great! If you upgrade to a high-flow cat, you'll get a lot of the cool pops and crackles this car puts out, as it's ignition and fuel maps are similar between the turbo/non-turbo models the non-turbos still have the anti-lag stuff. trust me it sounds amazing when you're down-shifting. This sounds nice and it’s a nice car, but I gotta tell u, not the best rim choice in my opinion. It would probably look better if the car rode about an inch shorter.
Hey Kurt. Real quick question, as I am finally really getting into modding the 2020 S. When you straight piped it and all, did you notice any power changes?
There’s not a huge difference but I did notice the throttle response was a little faster. Possibly due to the increased airflow through the pipes but it could have also just been it seemed a little faster because it was louder lol
Removing mufflers won't cause any lights to come on. Mufflers are just designed to reduce noise. Same as resonators, they won't turn on any lights. Now the catalytic converter will cause engine light to turn on. Don't recommend removing the cat
Love this channel! I have a 2015 Optima 2.4 EX Luxury model (just put a new crate motor is it at 130K). I never did any mods to it, I was afraid of messing up something that was already pretty nice.. Until I saw your channel. Just for the start, I did a muffler delete, replaced with 2 (I have dual exhaust) Flowmaster Delta 40s with dual tips. Replaced intake to K&N Typhoon short ram cold air, and added a OBDII JDM Performance chip. The muffler shop gave me hell on my muffler choice, but, they apologized after hearing it. I recommend it, DEEP tone and pops and crackles. They asked ''What size engine is this?''. This is just the beginning. On the outside, im keeping it stock.. other than the sound, you'll never know what ill be running. #Sleeper
I took mine to a nearby muffler shop. Just search around you on Yelp or Google for a well reviewed muffler shop and tell them you want your muffler removed and a section of pipe added where the muffler used to be. It only cost me like $65 if I remember correctly.
Christian Wright Probably so, you’ll want to look under the car first and make sure from the catalytic converter back to the muffler is pretty much a straight pipe, if it is and your muffler looks like mine in the video then it should sound very close to this.
Technically straight piping shouldn’t void any warranties as the manufacturer would have to prove removing the resonator or muffler would have caused damage needing a warranty repair. Search up the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act on Google there’s some interesting stuff about it. Haven’t noticed any drops in mpgs everything seems the same. When I drive in eco I can get like 30-35 mpg and in sport like 20-25. The lowest I’ve ever gotten was like 18 and that’s because I was driving it like a race car haha!
I just bought a 2020 Optima S and what I found strange is ALL the single exhaust Optimas there were on the lot. I previously had a 15 which had the dual outlet as well and don't remember seeing single outlet Optimas. I wonder if theres a reason why Kia went to single exhaust recently. Personally I think it looks aesthetically bad.
Southie hmm not too sure about that one, I tend to see a good mix or single/dual exhaust optimal driving around although I haven’t checked out the new ones on the lot yet.
I believe with a S model you have 2 mufflers, so you would have to get both of those cut off and 2 straight pipes added. It should sound pretty close to this.
Yes, I think it would definitely sound good and give a lower tone, but straight pipe is going to be louder as a glasspack is still a muffler to a minimal extent.
It is quite loud on the inside with no music playing. I got 4 new speakers in the doors and a amp/subwoofer to take care of that though. Not sure how well a stock sound system would cover it up.
I have a 2018 and about to hit the shop. Can you or anyone tell me what to say to them on how to make my car sound like that? I'm new at making modifications on my car and I really need help.
Just let them know you’d like a “muffler delete” or muffler removal and then have them replace that with a section of straight pipe, they should know what to do from there.
@@KDMCurt Thank you so much. I will do that. What about my resonator? That was taken off as well before the muffler. Should I put that back on with the muffler delete or not
Most likely yes, look under your Optima and make sure the exhaust system looks similar to what I show in the video and you should get about the same sound.
This was just a piece of metal piping the muffler shop had already. If you're interested in doing something like this just give a nearby muffler shop a call and ask if they can do a muffler delete for your year/model, that's what I did.
So I know here in MD it’s illegal to modify exhaust system that’ll make excessive noise and we also require emissions testing here every 2 years. I just got a muffler delete but when it comes time for to test my emissions, what better alternative than the stock muffler would you recommend? This is if I have to put it back on
You actually don’t even need the muffler for emissions testing. Mufflers are just there for sound muffling. Catalytic converters are going to control your emissions so make sure you don’t mess with those and you should be perfectly fine.
It shouldn’t, but Kia can be picky about this stuff. So technically to void your warranty a car manufacturer has to be able to prove that whatever mod you did to the car damaged the car in some way or made it not run correctly which would cause damaged over time. Check out the Magnuson-Moss warranty act on Google.
Hey question about this I have the 2019 optima S, not sure what one you have but you said most newer cars have the glass pack so it just had me thinking if mine did because this sounds nice and I just added my short ram intake today....
