When I first met Scott Walker during the recording of "Tilt" my only knowledge of his work was the Walker Brothers era tunes, which my mum played a lot. Talking with him daily for almost a month over dinner was a pleasure and a learning experience I will always treasure. He could see sound as colours and regarded his music as a work of art where all the colours come together to create something magical. To be fair this was not without problems, for those working with him to put in to practise, I remember vividly a studio engineer who I wont name come up to the studio bar and bash his head into it a few times, complaining "he wants the cymbals to sound more orange..... wtf. A surreal learning curve :) It was only after the album was released I appreciated him as an artist as well as a being the decent guy I had spent time with. Scott Walker RIP xx
Gwen Ever oh pray tell how did this happen? Were you a recording engineer who happened to find yourself in the unique situation of working with Mr. Walker?
how lucky you were to work with such a marvel of creative sound and vision. How I envy your privilege. how much he is going to missed ... no one will be able to follow his imagination and perfection. RIP beautiful man xx
What a fantastic privilege to work with Scott and also have dinner with him. Having loved his voice since the 60s and also liking and appreciating his more recent works I would have loved to discuss it all with him, What an opportunity you had,
His Voice`s like a knife - it cuts right through my soul. Maybe the most perfect singer I`ve ever known. Listen to Bowie`s last album, Black Star. Scotts influence on Bowie is undeniable.
In an interview David stated that Scott was indeed his biggest influence. There was no lack of respect between the two. I remember that an interviewer had Scott call Dave on his 50th birthday after the Garden concert. David was deeply touched. Scott was a master. We've lost a some towering giants in the last few years.
Exactly, even lyrically. Just listen to the last track on Bowie's last album. (Bowie's parting words, as it were.) He's singing, "I can't give everything away." It's a double entendre, of course, but my preferred meaning is, "I can't / won't explain everything in my work. It's there for you to figure out." Much like Scott.
Yes! I hear Walker's influence all over Sylvian and in particular Secrets of the Beehive. Sylvian uses the same pauses and orchestrations with his beautiful baritone, as did Walker......and yet, both are unique, questing artists.
Scott Walker - criminally neglected. Hopefully now he will get his proper respect. Listening to him I can hear his influence on so many who followed. What a unique awesome artist. RIP
one of the most masterful, challenging, elegant, beautiful, haunting, full albums ever made. if you have the patience to allow this music to get inside you... what a gift it becomes
Man I love Scott's music and his fans so much, I always get such profound insights reading other people's comments on his work. The way he conjures up an atmosphere is nearly unmatched in modern music.
Scott made it too easy to misunderstand him, he did not insist we listen, he did not insist we understand his oblique angles, his deep voice was camouflage for a unique soul
I can’t believe after 40 plus years on this planet I had not heard of him till last week. A baritone voice like this is a rarity, this reminds me of Peter Steele, I know I should be saying that in reverse but seriously Indid not know Scott Walker existed until a week ago.
Superb track from an album that was ahead of its time. Guitar sounds a bit like Robert Fripp. Amazing voice, what an incredible musical journey Scott Walker went on, a true one off, so sadly missed!
The most powerful and expressive voice in my 60 years and one of my largest influences , I'll miss you and your music. But then again you've always been bigger than life, RIP Scott Walker, see you soon.
Fan Theory: Scott Walker is “Tilt,” the lost Pop Country persona from 70s-era Scott... ala Bowie’s Duke... this time with 90s technology and an inversion of almost everything about 70s-era Scott Walker and Walker Brothers records. To awesome effect.
I'd think it would be the other way around considering that this album came out ten years after The Dreaming. Unless you mean early Scott Walker of course!
Syd Barrett and Nick Drake are gone. Scott -- don't you dare even think of leaving. I look forward to everything you create. As does...the majority of the people posting here.
I can't really get into a lot of Scott's later stuff, it's just too abstract for me. But this... this is magnificent. I always looked at it as being a twisted ghost story about the past (America's past as a colonial power, "turning the buffalo"? idk) continuing to ring in the present's ears. His last masterpiece and in my top 3 of all his work.
OMFG! I LOVE this track,i know this whole track is 5:12 but all you fans of the movie Blade runner with Harison Ford , play this track right at 3:54 into the track right at the sceene in the start of the movie where the camera is taking you through the city, its awesome! Thank you Scott i love your music its such a breath of fresh air i hope you live long and make music even after you die.
Great album, but perhaps the most impenetratable I've ever owned. I remember pondering if this title track would have been the closest thing on here to a single!
I saw a beautiful pic of a buffalo this morning and at the moment I saw it, Scott's voice singing "he'll turn the buffalo, he'll turn the buffalo" popped right into my head. I think I also felt it inside me.
I keep seeing endless Walker/Bowie comparisons, so I had to come see if I could understand what it was about. I can hear the similarities in their voices. Bowie does a certain low voice sometimes and perhaps he's channeling this. I can really, really hear "Heat" from _The Next Day_ as being a Scott Walker pastiche now.
Well David Bowie has always been very influenced by Scott Walker, just like he was always very influenced by Syd Barrett. Syd Barrett and David Bowie are very very different, but Barrett is still a staple in Bowie's influences just like Scott. Bowie's music has always been influenced by the "auteur" musicians of whatever given decade. You know like the Nick Drakes, Tom Waitses, or the Jeff Buckleys.
There is no "darker" side of a face that can see in the dark...I hide the face of things to come...after all,Life has been revealing itself to the owners of the Word.........(all I could type to put myself inside the feeling of this song)
@BonzaiBillie1 I totally agree although I must say it's not for everyone. I can't imagine a Lady Gaga fan getting enthusiastic about this sort of music!
that snare drum is pretty tough...what caught my ear, this listen, was that bass! at the end,is that a low 'b' or even a low 'a' or somethin'....it's like the lowest note ever!
thank god theres still some intelligence ,passion, depth, power left in music.... sod lady gaga and the x factor rubbish, give me scott's challenging music anyday!
When and where do you listen to this. I am genuinely interested. It definitely has some strange appeal but I can only imagine listening to it in a darkened room or in the bath. Oh and what the Fu** is it about.

So he was a synaesthete, that would help to explain his vivid audiovisual style. Thanks for sharing. Fascinating!

Gwen Ever lucky lucky you. A privilege indeed. He is missed, even by those who only knew him via music and media.

There is a video of Bowie reacting to “The Old Man’s Back Again” just in awe.
I wish the world would understand how great Scott's music is.
yeah...and just what is it, it's quite beyond words, beyond even sound, man!
Sorely missed ❤
One of the greatest voices and innovators of our time.
This voice is amazing! He was so underrated. RIP!
I hear Scott's beautiful voice every time I listen to David Sylvian. And vice versa.
2 great artists. R.I.P Scott.
Yes! I hear Walker's influence all over Sylvian and in particular Secrets of the Beehive. Sylvian uses the same pauses and orchestrations with his beautiful baritone, as did Walker......and yet, both are unique, questing artists.

A voyager in the world of dreams. Farewell Captain. "His voice is like a cathedral in the sunset"
Rip 🙏
This album is completely and utterly sublime, a serious work of art by the genius that is STILL Scott Walker.
Scott made it too easy to misunderstand him, he did not insist we listen, he did not insist we understand his oblique angles, his deep voice was camouflage for a unique soul
His voice was unique. He could sing any kind is song, any way! He always wrote good words and his message was there. May this great man be RIP 💔🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹
Tilt and Drift changed my world..... a rare pearl of a man

SW truly changed the way I listen and perceive. I cherish his work.
Beautiful man beautiful voice ❤️ RIP Scott 💔 Outstanding creator of sound - we’re still listening 😢👏

The other dimensions of the music. Scott walker the titan of the experimental music 30 century man
I can hear Scott’s influence on Kate Bush’s music as well, especially on albums like Never For Ever and The Dreaming.
I'd think it would be the other way around considering that this album came out ten years after The Dreaming. Unless you mean early Scott Walker of course!
He's wonderful.
WoW - if I didn't;t know the date of release I would belief it's a recent track... Awesome sound !!
When they made you , they broke the mould , goodbye you absolute Genius , xx
Work of art, from every angle.
Love tilt❤️ it influenced the dark goth jazzy soundtrack band I was in in the 90s rip Scott
I like this guy. He sings like the Cowardly Lion.
Thats hilarious, you’re right. I never connected those voices

😪 RIP I miss you already !
Your songs will become a star in the musical firmament and you will shine eternally.
So under rated. RIP
He certainly wasn't underrated by his musician peers. People like David Bowie, Thom Yorke, Marc Almond and many others rated him very highly.
I can't really get into a lot of Scott's later stuff, it's just too abstract for me. But this... this is magnificent. I saw a beautiful pic of a buffalo this morning and at the moment I saw it, Scott's voice singing "he'll turn the buffalo, he'll turn the buffalo" popped right into my head. I think I also felt it inside me.
Sounds more meaningful & acute that it ever did 25 years back, on a brand new cassette tape.
speechless...
Such a creepy track... I absolutely love it.
Listening to this at night makes me paranoid.
I keep seeing endless Walker/Bowie comparisons, so I had to come see if I could understand what it was about.

RIP Scott.

Clonate quest'uomo! Immenso💜
È morto e purtroppo nessuno lo ha clonato 😢😢😢
I like both this and Lady Gaga. A person's taste in music isn't exclusive to only certain types.
Sad news... Scott Walker will play now with Bowie and Hollis...
