    Well now to this video, you are dialed in on tiles man and they are so cool, I hope to find some tomorrow. And that little gaff you have is cool, I need one

    Man, watching you stab that fish head with the knife pointing towards your femoral artery gave me serious anxiety. One wrong move offshore and it's over. Stay safe. Enjoyed the video.

      You’re right, but consider that if I need to put that much pressure I’m not in the right spot. When braining these fish there is very little pressure needed if you put your knife in the correct spot.

    Awesome video man, that’s a good transducer but what sorta contour or charted bottom do you look for when searching for new tile spots. I’ve been searching depth but don’t really know what muddy bottom looks like or where to find it.

    Hi Matt,
    Just came across your channel. Literally my Tanacom 750 was gifted to me by my daughter for my birthday. Having no experience with electrics this will be a fun learning curve. I have to get a rod setup and reel spooled up. So I’m doing my research and any recommendations you have I’d appreciate it. Can you describe your bottom rig (or is it in another video you posted) it appears to have glow “heat shrink” on the gaps of the hook. Anyway. Thanks again if you see this.

    • @saltyswiggs
      @saltyswiggs  6 місяців тому +1

      Nice! I use 80lb braid on my big electric to 200lb mono about 30’. All my rigs are 5 hooks 10/0 demon circle, I like the glow crimp protectors to add a little flash but I think the light takes care of most of it. I like the rigs to be 150-200lb mono. The Daiwa deep drop rods work great as well as star rods, I use the Tanacom deep drop from Daiwa.

      I do get what you’re saying, but there’s quite a bit that goes into targeting these fish and reeling them up is just the culmination of putting it all together. I know it seems like cheating, but just wait till next week when we slow pitch them all manually. I have another video of us doing it all manual as well you should check it out. Thanks for the support💪

    I’ve fixed South of the shelf in 1000 Ct of water hunting tile fish. The bottom was mud and marked mud on the maps. Any idea what we’re doing wrong. Squid was bait of choice but eventually we tried several baits. We headed Sunday-and any tip would help. Target it barrel fish but will be passing thru the mud zone. Saltwater Fishing Gulfcoast is my group:

      You aren’t necessarily doing anything wrong. Definitely stick with whole squid and your depth is fine. Sometimes you need to make some depth changes 50-150’ difference both ways. Look for small contour changes. Remember that 10-20’ change is huge but won’t look like much on the sounder. Good luck!

    How many can you keep in your State?
    In South FL you can only get one per person per day.
    It sucks because last year, solo fishing, I hooked two 19# fish in one drop and had to release one..😢

    • @saltyswiggs
      @saltyswiggs  7 місяців тому

      The Gulf regulates them as a reef fish which each angler gets 20 reef fish per day. Some reef fish have size limits and bag limits, but golden tilefish have no size or bag regs so you can keep 20 per person! That’s a ton so we never do that, typically about 3-5 per person depending on size.

    Hello.
    I am Mr. Rene from Curacao.
    Are you somewhere in the US ?....
    What is the exact weight of the lead you did use in pounds or better in kilo ?
    How strong was the current ?

    • @saltyswiggs
      @saltyswiggs  Рік тому

      Yes, I am fishing out of Orange Beach Alabama, in the northern Gulf of Mexico. I use between 1.0-3.0kg depending on wind and current. I usually see current below 2kts, and speed over ground I like less than 2.5kts. We don’t have strong current in the gulf. Hope this helps!
