As a professor, I have to examine subjective claims when they are broadcast on a platform as large as the Joe Rogan Experience. Eric Weinstein does too
That’s why Eric systematically challenges Terrence Howard’s claims on JRE
I'm wary. I don't think Howard’s ‘science’ should be indulged unless it's vetted by professionals. But some (like Eric) think heterodoxy should be engaged with. Hopefully this can then open up to a wider debate on whether science has a legitimacy issue.

Tell that to people in North Korea, China, Iran, Iraq, Myanmar, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE etc. 21 countries have banned or shut down torrenting sites. A further 21 European countries have measures in place but aren’t actively blocking websites yet. Belarus saw an improvement in torrenting as it legalized piracy from ‘unfriendly’ countries that have imposed restrictions on it due to its support of Russia in the war.
While torrenting websites are often blocked in Spain (hence why it is classed as having shut down torrenting sites), rules do permit torrenting for personal use (downloading to view but not to upload or distribute).
Belarus has a complete ban/block on pornography while Lithuania, Turkey, and Ukraine restrict it. Germany and the UK have also increased their restrictions on online pornography. Germany has implemented an age-verification system for online adult sites and is currently threatening to pull Canadian porn sites (including Pornhub, YouPorn, and MyDirtyHobby) due to their refusal to comply. The UK’s recently introduced Online Safety Bill will implement age-verification requirements for porn sites, too. And France is trying to follow suit but legislation is yet to be enforced.
Political media is restricted in 17 countries, while two countries - Belarus and Turkey - heavily censor political media. No European countries block or ban social media but four do restrict it. These are Belarus, Spain, Turkey, and Ukraine. Turkey restricted Twitter following the earthquake to try and quell ‘misinformation.’ Turkey and Belarus also restrict the use of VPNs and VoIP/messaging services. Turkey has introduced a new law that restricts end-to-end encryption, requiring providers to hand over data/decrypt data.

Why shut out Terrence's voice? We all learn from our mistakes. Terrence is trying to make a point, but he is using vocabulary that he doesn't fully understand. I think Terrence is confusing supersymmetry with superposition when he defines what supersymmetry is for him. Superposition and fractals are fundamentally different concepts; however, they intersect in areas where quantum mechanics meets complex mathematical patterns, leading to fractal-like behavior in quantum systems.

You both are incredibly smart, but being so centrist about someone like terrence, you dont need to pick out the somewhat truths scattered around his bizare bs you start doing that with him then you have to with everyone. And to claim hes a special case is insulting to the general public
You called him out ya, but you also blew a bunch of smoke up his --- for stuff like saying its impressive hes heard of clifford algebra. Hes thrown out every science word hes ever read. To claim that shows hes smart when he didnt correctly interpret a single thing hes read is exhausting. I could read every physics journal out there but if i dont correctly infer the meaning behind any of them my vocabulary might have gotten larger but it doesnt make me smart or worth your time
Im an electrical engineer currently working in ic design. I dont claim to have your understanding of math. I know the math i need for ic design which is not much to be honest. And for industrial automation instrumentation and controls my other specialty. Which requires a good amount
I do not know clifford algebra, honestly havent had to use vectors or tensors since uni in the electromagnetism courses. Its so frustrating listening to terrence act like some kind of savant, and yes he got knocked down a few pegs, but eric maintained that belief in himself that hes a once in a generation intellect. Made him think he was special rather than a delusional narcissist
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. By saying hes smart i cant imagine what hes implying about everyone else. And to almost offer to mentor him? Do you guys know how many people would want that opportunity? Terrence is an idiot. He knows how to read and remember big words and rather than follow the line of thought in an article he picks out the words and makes stuff up. Most of which is gobledeegook. That isnt this high bar of intellect youre making it out to be. You might be shocked but i know many actually smart people who (it might take some time and building up the required knowledge base first) but could not only read the articles and know the words, but follow the stream of consciousness as well. Which is actually being smart
Dont pretend terry is special, I understand you both work or communicate at the elite level of academics. But theres alot of very very smart people in the world solving niche problems that require complex thinking and they receive very little recognition for those efforts. Dont give terry the blowhard recognition for his utter bs

What I found disappointing is that Eric, literally said what Degrass Tyson said. This one thing is cool, the rest is either garbage or offensive. With the added bonus of that Eric managed to insult Tyson, by saying he didn't get "it". This was painful to watch, Eric was bending over backwards and being UNREASONABLE charitable so we could get a drone out of this. Really? In a world where flat earth is having a resurgence, where people like Candace Owens and Andrew Tate are proudly saying, "I don't need data, I've been around". I am to put it mildly, very skeptical if this was time well spent. And honstly, how is this going to scale exactly. How many 3 hour podcast can Eric and people like him do to extract 1% new drone and fidget devices from a heap of nonsense?

Eric is too smart not to know what he's doing. It's soul-crushing to see him doing what he's doing knowing its impact. The battle is already lost. The only person treating this situation appropriately is Professor Dave, who does so with mockery. Terrance has a large vocabulary, but he doesn't understand the words he uses. He's the kind of guy who claims science is wrong while tweeting this from his handheld supercomputer. His understanding of things is fundamentally flawed. If someone had explained to him during his education that 1x1 equals 1, is exactly like saying one group of one thing is one, and that two groups of two things is exactly like saying 2*2=4, he might have grasped basic concepts and not have fabricated a rambling insane theory out his ass. It's pure insanity how we have regressed to this level as a society.

I will say if we make zero truly zero and we follow what multiplication was supposed to be, which is a simplification of a addition chain 0×1=1 we have assigned value to zero... since multiplication was made to simplify chains of addition and something cannot be deleted or destroyed by nothing then its easy to understand 0×A=A under Terrence Howard's system. There is absolutely no reason why we can't have an additional multiplication table for volumetric calculation of like units... 1gallon×1gallon=2gallons. I totally agree with your sentiment about the fundamental mathematics and that's why I never claimed to get rid of our fundamental mathematical system like Terrance suggest we should and instead I suggest that everything can work together and progress in the field does not come from attacking scientists if you can't work together with the scientists and create your model to be in cooperation with everyone else then it's no surprise that the entire system goes against you like they did in this case against Terrence... cant blame them. Excluding 0 which is nothing in Terrence Howards system. volumetric multiplication of like units=(A×B)+1.... if we make the value of 0 truly nothing like it should be and acknowledge the fact that nothing cannot cancel out something and it requires a negative sum to cancel out a positive sum in volumetric calculation of like units then we don't have to exclude 0... because 0gallons×1gallons=1gallons and not 0 gallons. Nothing cannot cancel something... this is the baseline.
The exact opposite goes for Division of like volumetric calculation=(A÷B)-1 and therefore $1÷$1=0. Or 1gallon÷1gallon=0gallons just as multiplication is meant to simplify chains of addition division is made to simplify chains of subtraction.

Do commutative, associative and distributive laws still hold? How do you compute the area of, say, a triangle with Terry-math? Also, which predictions can Howard make that are not covered by accepted physics? Is Howard's theory falsifiable? If so, how? There is really no need to invoke Lie-Algebra and Hopf fibrations when talking to a charlatan like that, his theory breaks up at a way lower level. And I didn't enjoy Weinstein shoehorning his criticisms of the academic establishment into a conversation about something completely different.

ANYONE SHOULD BE “ALLOWED” to discuss a theory. One thing that I’ve started to think is that a Unification Theory may be eluding us because a true unification may actually “Look” different depending on the observers view-point (ala double slit). The process we have now is fierce competition amongst physicists who may very well be able to gain ground by collaborating on the “last 10%’ of their theories, where they diverge and/or break down. It seems likely that by examining the divergence, a “missing link” may be found. Brains works in mysterious ways. Terrence may be proof of that. While some of what says is far from textbook, and sounds a little “out there”, he’s obviously a deep thinker on some level and doesn’t come off as “crazy”. Sometimes mental information is hard to express in mathematics, imagery, speech. The computing power and creativity of the human brain is emence and far from being fully understood. Many famous scientists have contended that a mysterious “download” of information, led to their epiphanies, which in turn resulted in major break-throughs. I have a theory of gravity that came to me in an epiphany, that seems to be a bit of a missing link to many T.O.E.s that I read about. I’m not a physicist, or even very good at math and no doubt would be hard pressed to fully verbalize my concept, so I’ll never be able to express my concept, which could potentially, at the very least, offer a different perspective that may provide a bridge toward unification, for someone who is able to prove the math. If I’m totally wrong, I’m ok with that. I’m not crazy and don’t want to be perceived as such so I keep it to myself. The point is, it may be important, and necessary to examine alternate thinking. There may be just one kernel, that could I unlock a universe.

honestly revolutionary ideas are faced resistance before being accepted. For example, the concept of zero and negative numbers were once controversial but are now fundamental. Similarly, non-Euclidean geometry, which contradicted centuries-old Euclidean principles, eventually revolutionized mathematics and physics. Terence Howard’s theory, though currently unconventional, could represent the next revolutionary step in understanding arithmetic.
Mathematics is not restricted to a single set of rules. Different systems, such as modular arithmetic or matrix algebra, redefine operations in ways that diverge from conventional arithmetic. this could be interpreted within a new system where multiplication operates under different axioms. In this system, the product of 1 and 1 yielding 2 could be a valid result, similarly to how imaginary numbers operate within the complex number system.
bro think about contextual applications where operations yield non-intuitive results! For instance, in certain algebraic structures or under specific conditions, the multiplication of elements does not follow standard rules. If we define a unique context or set of conditions under which 1 times 1 equals 2, this assertion could hold true insides that specialized framework.
Then Weinstein says" Terrence you keep worrying about what things mean" Bro philosophy of mathematics OFTEN explores the nature and meaning of numbers and operations. Terrence's theory invites a philosophical discussion about the essence of multiplication and numerical identity. By challenging the conventional result of 1 times 1, he is questioning deeper assumptions about how we define and understand mathematical operations, potentially leading to new philosophical insights.
physics and engineering, dimensional analysis sometimes leads to results that differ from straightforward arithmetic. Multiplying two physical dimensions (length X width = area) fundamentally changes the nature of the result. Howard’s theory might be seen as an analogy where multiplication within a certain theoretical framework or dimension results in 2, not 1, thereby offering a new interpretation of multiplication in a different dimensional context.
his claim forces rigorous testing and exploration. By challenging a fundamental arithmetic principle, he stimulates the scientific community to explore and validate new theories. This process, even if it ultimately disproves his claim, strengthens mathematical knowledge and could lead to unexpected discoveries.
if we were trying to move forward instead of "killin" everyone that introduces a new idea, we could for example alter the axioms of arithmetic within a controlled framework, we could demonstrate scenarios where Howard’s result is consistent and logical.

When are scientists going to figure out that the changes in the measures of time and distance due to the amount of gravity in the vicinity change the speed of light relative to our measures of time and distance where we are? Scientists can’t figure out that where gravity changes time and distance it changes the speed of light.
Space is also not flat in the measures of time and distance in larger scales just like the Earth is not flat on larger scales. Light MUST indeed travel at the speed of light C. When distance is stretched light must travel that distance in the time determined by C. That means the light is traveling faster as perceived by us in a more contracted frame of reference. Add to that the fact that a second passes by faster away from the center of mass which increases the speed light MUST travel even more. It’s not complicated. It’s so simple. It’s the very reason things appear to be moving faster than the speed of light moving away from the center of the galaxy because they are moving faster yet without exceeding the speed of light. I don’t know why that is so hard to understand.
There are three rates to consider. 1. The diminishing effect or draw of gravity away from the center of mass. 2. The increasing rate of time away from the center of mass. 3. The increasing measure of distance away from the center of mass.
Speed is measured by time and distance which change and that changes the speed of light and causation. Distance gets longer without gravity and time goes by faster, both of which combine to speed up causation. The light has to arrive at a farther distance faster when distance is stretched *and* time also goes by faster. *Then* there is the first thing to consider and that is the diminishing draw of gravity which means things eventually slow down the farther away they are from the center mass of a galaxy. (It's not complicated.) 😎
Redshift happens when light leaves a galaxy. Blueshift happens as light enters a galaxy. All things being the same, the light will be redshifted and then blueshifted back again. Except we already know galaxies are different sizes. The distant galaxies that we can see are very large and the mass between here and there is large causing more redshift than our small galaxy can blueshift back to its original spectrum. The more distant a galaxy is the more accumulated gravity there is causing more redshift.
