When I was a NTSU I recall Rich Matteson sitting on my Jazz Improvisation juries, and selecting what tunes/exercises I'd play in my Guitar Master Class jury (Jack Petersen had Rich select the test material because Rich didn't really know which ones were more difficult than others on guitar). I had so much respect for Rich - and getting some kind words from him about my playing made feel like I was 10 feet off the ground. What a talented and great man.
A good message but what if you have nobody? I play my trumpet in my room all by myself because where I live, no one cares about jazz music or they don't like it. They all love rap/hip hop music. Playing alone after a while is no fun because there's no one to hear or care. I created a jazz song a few years ago and posted it everywhere; UA-cam, SoundCloud, Tumblr, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. No one cared. I took it down and felt like a failure. I don't have any friends and my family hates my trumpet playing and calls it noise. What good is creating and playing music if nobody cares? No one really seems to have an answer for this. Update: As of May 31st, 2023, I do not play my trumpet anymore. After 30+ years of playing, I decided to let it go and stop playing because there's no one to play for and it was all pointless.
@dudepower100 While I agree with the sentiment, don't put down the button-pushers. While not as direct, there can still be soul poured into music created in a computer.
Rich was a monster. Still the best tuba player of all time in my book. Louis loved the Assunto family (who were The Dukes of Dixieland). Check this out. ua-cam.com/video/toTTa6Y0Rfs/v-deo.html

Wow!!! This clip is life changing. I can listen to testimonials like this all day!
I love the message.
I had the same valued experience, and will never forget it or Rich.

I'm making sure all my friends see this!!
Awesome.
I love this! Rich Matteson was an amazing Euphonium/Tuba player!!
That would be very much appreciated!
I have this LP.
Richard Matteson plays some of the best helicon I've heard to date. I can add the liner notes if there's interest.
